This is by far the WORSE audible book I have ever ordered. The narration is impossible to follow. Don't even bother. Save your credit/money for something else.

Terrible boring book
Revisado: 05-24-21
I could not get onto this book. So ploddingly written. Hard to believe as history because written from the point of view of the protagonists--how does the author know any of this??

No. It is a simple word, uttered on a summer porch in 1936. And it will haunt Kitty Milton for the rest of her life. Kitty and her husband, Ogden, are both from families considered the backbone of the country. But this refusal will come to be Kitty’s defining moment, and its consequences will ripple through the Milton family for generations. For while they summer on their island in Maine, anchored as they are to the way things have always been, the winds of change are beginning to stir.

Reading
Revisado: 02-18-20
I was captivated by the novel but really frustrated by the sound of the reader. She has a tendency to drop her voice to a barely hearable level when reading some of the female characters, especially the main character, Kitty. Left me major annoyed and looking forward to writing this review.

Historia
From the rubble-strewn streets of US-occupied Baghdad, Hadi - a scavenger and an oddball fixture at a local café - collects human body parts and stitches them together to create a corpse. His goal, he claims, is for the government to recognize the parts as people and to give them proper burial. But when the corpse goes missing, a wave of eerie murders sweeps the city, and reports stream in of a horrendous-looking criminal who, though shot, cannot be killed.

Absolutely the best fiction I read in 2019
Revisado: 02-18-20
Absolutely the best fiction I read in 2019. I was mesmerized by the plot and loved the overall politicizing of the story. Just a terrific book.

Historia
Alix Chamberlain is a woman who gets what she wants and has made a living, with her confidence-driven brand, showing other women how to do the same. So she is shocked when her babysitter, Emira Tucker, is confronted while watching the Chamberlains' toddler one night, walking the aisles of their local high-end supermarket. The store's security guard, seeing a young Black woman out late with a White child, accuses Emira of kidnapping two-year-old Briar. A small crowd gathers, a bystander films everything, and Emira is furious and humiliated. Alix resolves to make things right.

Awful

This book is outrageous and boring. Save your money. I was so disappointed with the book expecting a less predictable plot and less predictable characters.
