Historia
A mythic figure in fighting and a legendary member of the “first family of martial arts,” Rickson Gracie is considered the godfather of what we recognize today as Mixed Martial Arts (MMA). Although Rickson’s three decades of total dominance in Jiu Jitsu is astounding, even more astounding is the serenity and spiritual depth of his approach to combat. For Rickson, Jiu Jitsu is a metaphor for life. Some consider Jiu Jitsu a martial art, others consider it a sport, but to Gracie, it is a philosophical system he uses to face and evaluate life’s challenges and maintain happiness and mental balance.

Historia
Steven Rinella (The MeatEater Podcast) and Clay Newcomb (MeatEater's Bear Grease podcast) gather listeners for a new round of stories, this time drawing from the lives of the rugged Long Hunters, who include such figures as Daniel Boone, Henry Skaggs, and Kasper Mansker. These were the commercial hunters and trappers who explored and exploited the First Far West, the land across the Appalachian Mountains, in the era between the Seven Years War and the American Revolution—one of the most fabled periods of American history.

Excellent listen.

Steve and Clay did a wonderful job reading this book, I listened to the entire book from start to finish. Then I have listened to it three more times pulling nuggets that I somehow did not catch before. I grew up thinking of this Daniel Boone with my coon hat and my first Kentucky cap rifle. We would visit relatives at our family’s home place in the green river Russell creek area and I remember those tails of the Daniel Boone legend’s. The excellent description of the long hunters does open my eyes to those days of the hunting for hides versus todays deer hunter of conservation. As I always consider what is best for the long term health of the herd. Thank you so much for the time and effort poured into this book.
