I've listened to longer podcasts I get tired of because they seem so repetitive. This one is a continuation story each episode. There is only rehash when needed.

As a college librarian that teaches information literacy, I am so grateful to Brené Brown for citing where she’s getting her information. In a world of misinformation and disinformation, I applaud and am grateful to her weaving in her storytelling with showing her references. Oh, and teaching me to name my feelings and shit. Love you, Brené.

You have to be Christian to Understand

I downloaded the book because the 7 types of rests mentioned were used in the Shine app I use. I could see it was going to be a faith-based book, however, I had hoped it'd be like the Five Love Languages by Gary Chapman where he brings up his faith a lot but he mentions it in a way a non-Christian would understand. Dr. Dalton-Smith unfortunately doesn't do that, which is a shame because I tried really hard to understand despite her use of vocabulary and language I didn't understand. I only had 4 hours and 37 minutes left before I gave up because it was taking lots of brain power and I still wasn't understanding her much. I hope one day she does a revised version where it's worded in a more universal and inclusive way.

I have to reread this book in a physical copy because the narrator’s voice is very mournful. If you’ve ever heard Thich Nhat Hanh speak, he has a way of speaking the most serious topics with joy. I have liked all the other narrators for Thich Nhat Hanh’s books but this particular narrator... I just couldn’t get over how sad his voice was- it was very distracting and not in align with the nourishing content of the book.

The only reason I chose to read this book was because of the word "Punjabi" in the title. I'd never read fiction with a Punjabi protagonist, especially someone born and raised in the Western world but with Punjabi roots. In my early 20's, I went through this identity crisis while living abroad in Japan. I was the American to the Indians. And the Indian to the Americans. Especially in literature, I'd never had the same background as the main character (or any character) before. Some people may be resistant to the "erotic" part of the book but it honestly frees the perception of older, Punjabi women in my mind- giving them more personality and character. Sometimes, in order to learn your own culture better, you've got to read it in a fictional world.
