Short & Impactful
Revisado: 11-21-20
I recommend this book for all managers. This book reflects Jack Ma’s mindset towards business. There are nice gems packed in this book that are good to keep in mind. Things like “having a dream is the best working capital” or “Keep at it” and “survival as a strategy” were great insights into Alibaba’s growth.

The author has shared his wisdom about the genius move- don’t worry about what you can’t control. My dad gave me the same idea so it resonated even more.

Historia
>An invaluable guide to arrive at better business decisions. We make decisions, and these decisions make us and our organisations. And in theory, decision-making should be easy: a problem is identified, the decision-makers generate solutions, and choose the optimal one - and powerful mathematical tools are available to facilitate the task. Yet if it is all so simple why do organisations, both private and public sector, keep making mistakes - the results of which are borne by shareholders, employees, taxpayers, and ultimately society at large?

Historia
Over the past few decades, a handful of scientists have been racing to explain a disturbing aspect of our universe: only four percent of it consists of the matter that makes up you, me, our books, and every star and planet. The rest is completely unknown. Richard Panek tells the dramatic story of the quest to find this “dark” matter and an even more bizarre substance called “dark energy”. This is perhaps the greatest mystery in all of science, and solving it will bring fame, funding, and certainly a Nobel Prize.

Demystifying the 4% of the universe we know and some of the unknown 96%
Revisado: 10-31-20
This audiobook was nicely read and wonderfully explained. The insights into the inner workings of great institutions are just as fascinating as the physics and science of cosmology. This book gave enough scientific depth to appreciate the wonders of what the space explorers do - look deep into the space to see into the past to predict the future and the beginnings of our existence. They also look deep into the atoms to understand the vastness of our galaxies. This will give me enough brain fodder for idle musings....

Historia
Without John C. Houbolt, a mid-level engineer at NASA, Apollo 11 would never have made it to the moon. Top NASA engineers on the project, including Werner Von Braun, strongly advocated for a single, huge spacecraft to travel to the moon, land, and return to Earth. It's the scenario used in 1950s cartoons and horror movies about traveling to outer space. Houbolt had another idea: Lunar Orbit Rendezvous. LOR would link two spacecraft in orbit while the crafts were travelling at 3,600 miles an hour around the moon. His plan was ridiculed and considered unthinkable.

Need to be made into a movie!
Revisado: 10-23-20
Every person who has worked within any team will be able to relate to this story. Narrated beautifully, the story held my attention until the end. I love the courage and dogged persistence displayed by Mr. Houbolt. This is a story (I’m sure amongst many others that are yet untold) of a NASA engineer who believed in his solution and fought the bureaucracy as an underdog - and won.

Historia
From the hero whistleblower of the infamous Theranos scam, Thicker than Water is a look at never-before-revealed details behind closed doors at the company, revealing a cautionary tale of corporate bullying, gaslighting, ego, and wealth running amok in Silicon Valley. Tyler Shultz had been in the workforce for less than a year when he emailed Elizabeth Holmes, his employer and the CEO and founder of Theranos, with concerns that the company’s lab practices were faulty, ignored quality control, and were potentially dangerous to patients.

Vulnerable yet great moral fortitude
Revisado: 08-24-20
Listening to what Tyler Shultz went through at such a young age through his own words was quite revelatory & heartbreaking. His self-doubt and fear that led to thoughts of suicide was heart-wrenching & real. The moral fortitude with which he bore this experience was very inspirational.
Tyler’s parents should be proud of their son’s upbringing and celebrate his success through this particular trial of his life. Covid19 May have delayed Elizabeth’s trial, but now she has to deal with the consequences of her own actions.
