Historia
It was a crime of senseless violence. On a cold night in a remote Swedish farmhouse, an elderly farmer was bludgeoned to death, his wife left to die with a noose around her neck. As if this didn't present enough problems for Ystad police inspector Kurt Wallander, the dying woman's last word, his only tangible clue, were foreign. If publicized, they could be the match that would inflame Sweden's already smoldering anti-immigrant sentiments.

I've already listened to it twice and I just got it last week. Full of interesting little details and a great main character. Wonderful quirky narration. I appreciate that the crime investigation meanders a bit. The imagery of the Swedish countryside was beautiful. I'm planning on listening to all this author's books.

Historia
Defying both civil authorities and the Mormon establishment in Salt Lake City, the renegade leaders of these Taliban-like theocracies are zealots who answer only to God; some 40,000 people still practice polygamy in these communities. At the core of Krakauer’s book are brothers Ron and Dan Lafferty, who insist they received a commandment from God to kill a blameless woman and her baby girl. Beginning with a meticulously researched account of this appalling double murder, Krakauer constructs a bone-chilling narrative of messianic delusion, polygamy, savage violence, and unyielding faith.

Fascinating

Excellent writing and narration. Sometimes a littled too detailed. My only reservation is that the author definately has a strong point of view toward the Mormon religion. I'd like to hear an opposing viewpoint. But a definate must-listen.

Historia
Gary Gilmore, the infamous murderer immortalized by Norman Mailer in The Executioner's Song, campaigned for his own death and was executed by firing squad in 1977. Writer Mikal Gilmore is his younger brother. In Shot in the Heart, he tells the stunning story of their wildly dysfunctional family: their mother, a black sheep daughter of unforgiving Mormon farmers; their father, a drunk, thief, and con man. It was a family destroyed by a multigenerational history of child abuse, alcoholism, crime, adultery, and murder.

I've listened to this audiobook 3 times already. It's fascinating and sad. I wish there was an unabridged version.

Very dull...
Revisado: 04-03-09
This is the first time I've written a review, but I feel compelled to save others from wasting precious hours...
The story in this book might be interesting, but the writing and narration are tedious and dull. The author feels the need to give every detail of every conversation, real or imagined.
