Historia
In his subtle and engaging investigation into the life and times of Jesus, Thomas Cahill shows us Jesus from his birth to his execution through the eyes of those who knew him and in the context of his time—a time when the Jews were struggling to maintain their beliefs under overlords who imposed their worldview on their subjects. Here is Jesus the loving friend, itinerate preacher, and quiet revolutionary, whose words and actions inspired his followers to journey throughout the Roman world and speak the truth he instilled.

Worth rereading a dozen times
Revisado: 02-13-20
I have come back to read and listen to this book again and again, for perhaps a dozen times. Most recently, having watch the incredible series “The Chosen” I am here once again rereading this wonderful and profound gift to us. And the narration by Brian F. O’Bryan is equally meaningful in this experience. My hope is that a guide in Rome will use this wonderful book as a basis in designing an “Everlasting Hills” tour.

Historia
In a narrative that moves from Washington's headquarters on the Hudson River, to the wooded hillside in North Carolina where Nathanael Greene fought Lord Cornwallis to a vicious draw, to Lafayette's brilliant series of maneuvers across Tidewater Virginia, author Nathaniel Philbrick details the epic and suspenseful year through to its triumphant conclusion. A riveting and wide-ranging story, full of dramatic, unexpected turns, In the Hurricane's Eye reveals that the fate of the American Revolution depended, in the end, on Washington and the sea.

The Full Story of the Siege of Yorktown
Revisado: 11-27-18
Finally, the COMPLETE story behind the miracle of the Siege of Yorktown is told! It was as much a story of sea power as it was of armies. Had been looking for such a book for a long time. I now have an even greater respect of George Washington as a leader who saw the whole of a battle - the land and the sea - and was able to finally get the pieces to fit, including his own evolution.
Mr. Philbrick starts the story with the British and French navies and ends it the same way, with the Battle of the Saintes. Along the way, he writes about the Battle of Cape Henry, the Battle of the Capes and, course the Siege of Yorktown, as well as the end of the American Revolution. It is richly told and, from all appearances, well sourced. In particular, the author's follow-up at the end of the main characters of the story is extremely interesting. It is a reminder that this story took place in a complicated and dynamic world.
In the audible version, missed the maps – which are crucial to any historical understanding – but found an outstanding set by Mr. Rick Britton on the MountVernon.org website.
This is a book I will be listening to several times.

Historia
Called a great book worthy of a great man, this definitive biography of the Commander in Chief of the Pacific Fleet in World War II is considered the best book ever written about Admiral Chester W. Nimitz. Highly respected by both the civilian and naval communities, Nimitz was sometimes overshadowed by more colorful warriors in the Pacific such as MacArthur and Halsey. Potter's lively and authoritative style fleshes out Admiral Nimitz's personality to help listeners appreciate the contributions he made as the principle architect of Japan's defeat.

Wonderful book
Revisado: 09-11-18
Professor Potter wrote a wonderful book. I wish it had been available when I was a midshipmen to the 1970s. He brought to life a true hero, a man whose nobility should inspire many in the conduct of their lives as well as my own.

In a bold act of conscience, Republican Senator Jeff Flake takes his party to task for embracing nationalism, populism, xenophobia, and the anomalous Trump presidency. The book is an urgent call for a return to bedrock conservative principle and a cry to once again put country before party.

Fresh and clear thinking!
Revisado: 08-05-17
Excellent book as an introduction to conservatism for this independently minded though registered Democraft from Maryland.
Saw the recent interview with Senator Flake on PBS NewsHour. It came along at a particularly opportune time, since I had just finished "Dark Money" by Jane Mayer and was looking to understand more of the conservative perspective. Right now, it is very muddled.

A New Understanding
Revisado: 03-29-15
I've been a student if the European Theater of Operations (ETO) for much of my life but this book deepened my understanding even further. Mr. Lee's read was masterful. Through his vitalizations I was able to keep the many characters straight. A masterful production.

Throughout these books, Follett has followed the fortunes of five intertwined families - American, German, Russian, English, and Welsh - as they make their way through the twentieth century. Now they come to one of the most tumultuous eras of all: the enormous social, political, and economic turmoil of the 1960s through the 1980s, from civil rights, assassinations, mass political movements and Vietnam to the Berlin Wall, the Cuban Missile Crisis, presidential impeachment, revolution - and rock and roll.

History Comes Alive
Revisado: 03-29-15
A wonderful book and performance that kept me enthralled for many days and nights. As a part of Mr Follett's Century Trilogy this book, in particular, gave insight into the events of the world I grew up in and lived in. His parallel telling of the American Negros/African Americans and the European oppressions by the Nazis and then the Communists was simply powerful - making a lasting impression. What is next? Will history repeat itself or is there really hope for humankind? The book and this trilogy provides a basis upon which to see that future.
