Historia
Mike and Beth didn't know each other existed before the night of the meteor shower. A melancholy film producer and a house sitter barely scraping by—chance made them neighbors, a bottle of champagne brought them together, and a shared need for human connection sparked something more. After a drunken and desperate one-night stand, the two strangers awake to discover a surprise astronomical event has left widespread destruction in its wake. But the cosmic lightshow was only part of something much bigger, and far more terrifying.

Really decent book!
Revisado: 10-24-24
I was pleasantly surprised by this book. A lot of reviews complain about disliking the female character or her narrator. I just try to put myself in the perspective that I don’t know how I would react in this kind of situation. Some people would panic. Some people would stay level headed and some would bounce between the two. Both of the main characters were the latter and I thought they were pretty realistic.
I liked the lovecraftian monsters and had good suspense. Fair warning of the animal harm. It’s not terribly graphic or over-the-top.

America is a barren landscape of smoldering ashes, devoid of life except for those people still struggling to scratch out some type of existence. Amidst this destruction, a father and his young son walk, always toward the coast, but with no real understanding that circumstances will improve once they arrive. Still, they persevere, and their relationship comes to represent goodness in a world of utter devastation.

Good writing, but didn’t really go anywhere
Revisado: 09-19-24
The narration was quite good for the story. The story was very bleak and the narration really solidified that.
The writing was very good. Captivating and easy to grasp. The author definitely has a talent with spinning a story. It’s not too verbose, but still paints a great picture.
My only problem with the book is that it just felt like a small piece taken right out of the middle of a much larger story. There were lots of small events that happened throughout the story, but it just ended without explaining much of anything that was happening. You got a tiny bit of backstory from the characters, but I didn’t catch any information on why there was an apocalypse.
This book gets a lot of praise and recommendations, and it wasn’t a bad story. It just ended without much purpose.

Very good sequel
Revisado: 04-17-24
I’m not sure if this is just a me-thing, but I always go into sequels expecting an extension that’s just as good as the first, and I’m constantly disappointed. I didn’t go into this book any differently. I loved Infinite, and wanted more of that. What I got was something very different. JR didn’t try to extend the story. On the surface, that was disappointing, but by the end of the book, I look back and found it an equally rewarding read/listen. I still prefer the original book. It was more dismal, darker, and epic-in-scale, but this one didn’t disappoint.
I have read all of the Infinite Timeline books through this one so far and plan to read the others too. I liked how this drew on so many of the other books themes/stories. Some more than others. I would definitely encourage at least reading Infinite, NPC, and Torment before this one. Torment was my least favorite of the series, personally, but it fed into this one a lot and very nicely.
RC Bray is always on top of my list of narrators. I would listen to that guy read the dictionary. He has so much passion and personality in his narration and he doesn’t try to overdo different voices. Sure there are narrators that can do some impressive stuff with accents and voices, but none have the same timbre as RC for me.
Robinson and Bray are my favorite combination. Looking forward to more from them and this series!

Historia
A group of close friends gathers at a secluded cabin in the wintry mountains of Colorado for a final holiday hurrah. Instead, it may be their last stand. First a massive blizzard leaves them marooned. Then the more chilling realization: Something is lurking in the woods, watching them, waiting.... Now a weekend of family, friends, and fun has turned into a test of love and loyalty in the face of inhuman horrors. The only hope for those huddled inside is to fight - tooth and nail, bullet and blade - for their lives. Otherwise, they’ll end up like the monsters’ other victims: bright pools of blood on glittering snow, screams lost in the vast mountains.

Character-driven horror
Revisado: 03-28-24
This story was really good. I am personally one that enjoys a character-driven story, but if that’s not your thing, I would avoid this.
A lot of the story is drama and love triangle, but it circles back to the horror part of the story regularly. Somehow, the author nailed the execution for me.
Luke Daniel’s is always fantastic to listen to. Sometimes the voice-acting can seem a bit over the top, but I would much prefer that to being too flat.

Just feels like one long introduction
Revisado: 03-10-24
I can’t tell what the actual plot is. Feels like one long introduction. Nothing I’ll remember or recommend.
Voice acting was fine. Felt like I was being read to by Crush from Finding Nemo. Kind of entertaining once I thought of it like that. Some of the exclamatory phrases were very over-acted.

The tone of this book turns dark fast and spirals from there. Lots of chaos and broken sanity. If you like that sort of thing, this is a great book.

Fantastic
Revisado: 11-01-23
Everything you want in a LitRPG. Humor, stats, purpose, world-building, city-building. I personally love a humble main character and while he has his moments of triumph, they’re quickly taken into consideration with how they’ll affect the world around him. At the start of the book, I was a little bit put off by his constant comparison of how he’s doing in certain rankings ladders, but it’s put into perspective by the end. On to book two without question.

Detective novel with a magic spin
Revisado: 10-10-23
I got through about half the book when I realized I just didn’t care what was happening. The story did a lot of back-and-forth between present and past. At halfway through, the main story felt like it had barely moved. Probably will not revisit.

It was Vera’s idea to buy the Itza. The “world’s most advanced smart speaker!” didn’t interest Thiago, but Vera thought it would be a bit of fun for them amidst all the strange occurrences happening in the condo. It made things worse. The cold spots and scratching in the walls were weird enough, but peculiar packages started showing up at the house - who ordered industrial lye? Then, there was the eerie music at odd hours, Thiago waking up to Itza projecting light shows in an empty room.

Eh…
Revisado: 10-02-23
Some good horror imagery. Very heavy on the despair and grief element, which adds to the ambiance.
The character histories (flashbacks) are done very well, but the current story as it’s happening in the present was tough to follow.
Narrator was fantastic though. If I see more books from Robb Moreira, I know the narration won’t be a problem.
