I always like Karla Gracey’s romances; they are always sweet, wholesome and fun clean romances. However, they were a few things that felt a little off about this book, the main one being the harsh fatphobia in the beginning of the book. There are many ways to describe a person that’s conceited and not good looking. Why must the narration focus so much on how fat he is? It follows the trope of fat people = villains/bad people and it made me uncomfortable.

This was a very cute and wholesome clean romance with some mistaken identity elements. I’m looking forward to reading the rest of the series now!

(3.5/5)
I love the idea of this, but it definitely needed a little more space to get to the *chef’s kiss* level. One or two more chapters would have done wonders for it, but it was a fun, quick listen!

I usually try to find something good in a story and write about that even when I don't love it, but this... this was something else. I didn't enjoy anything here. It was boring (which is a feast on itself, considering this is less than an hour long?) and badly paced. It felt like a bad acid trip.
Mind you, this bad review isn't because of the unconventional topic. I love monster romances and was expecting to find a quick, fun read. But this book is weird in a bad way and I'm so glad it's short because I'd dnf'd it if not.

Throne of Grace was a very sweet read.
The story follows Arthur, a rich boy, and Josie, a maid that works for his family, as they strike a friendship (and something more) over their passion for God and helping the poor. I really liked how the author managed the Christian themes throughout the book.
I think I wanted a little bit more of development in the relationship, but overall the story is a very sweet clean romance that left me with a smile on my face.

I was provided a free copy of this audiobook upon request. This didn’t affect my review in any form.

CW: mentions of rape and dealing with trauma

Really liked this short story. I started it without reading anything about it so I was a little shocked when rape and trauma were touched in the book, but the author dealer with everything with respect and didn’t in any way defend the rapist. Somehow she made a sweet compelling read without understating the hard topics and that was fantastic. I’m very excited to continue this series.

Scions of the Black Lotus is a series that keeps getting better with each book. Wretches of the Trench was truly fantastic and the stakes have been risen even more for the next books in the series. This book has to be my favorite of the series yet, with great description and action-packed scenes. Sometimes i forget as I’m reading the books that the protagonists are incredibly young and they are experiencing the worst of life at such a young age. In this book, you really can’t forget about it and it’s heartbreaking.

The narrator continues to deliver excellent voices for each of the characters and giving them life throughout the book. I’m really excited to see how the story grows in Temptress of Fates.

White Sheep of the Family is the second book of the Children of the Black Lotus series. I’ve seen people comment that it can be read as a standalone, but I would really recommend anyone interested in this series to read the books in order.

White Sheep of the Family is even better than it’s predecessor. I loved following the point of view of Tian as he and Jie investigated the events that happened in the end of the first book. I truly like how JC Kang writes action scenes; he makes them feel alive and real, like everything is happening in my mind like a movie as I listen thanks to his way of describing. The narrator is fantastic for this story too.

Pride and Prejudice has been my favorite book for half of my life now, which makes me a little wary about retellings. I didn’t need to be so cautious, though, because Through Each Other’s Eyes lived to my expectations. I loved this Freaky Friday take on Elizabeth and Darcy. The narrator did an excellent job differentiating both voices. There was a part that lowered my score, though, because either the narrator or the writer got the point of views confused and I had to listen to that part twice before understanding that it was an error. However this didn’t damage my enjoyment of the book too much. This is a fun read anyone who loves Pride and Prejudice will enjoy.

I received a review copy of this book upon request. This has not influenced my opinion in any way.

This is like the there-was-only-one-bed trope but with a sleeping bag in the middle of a hiking trip and wowzies, am I here for it. Still there were some occasions when Becky’s thoughts were so weird they took some of my enjoyment of the story. This was short but spicy and almost bittersweet in the end. Overall a fun quick read.
