Kristi has written a very good book. It's short in comparison to other similar books. However, the book is a good resource for conservative values. Kristi loves to brag on her state, but I don't blame her.
I've heard some otherwise respectable people criticize the book for an error, or an event they wish was not included. The reader should not get caught up in those distractions. The remaining content is worth the read. Whether or not she met a dictator, or had a valid reason to put her goat and dog down is up for debate. My only problem with the book is how much she reflects on things based on her being a woman. For example, she is proud to sponsor a bill to require at least 1 female in peace negotiations. A better bill would perhaps be to ensure peace negotiations include at least 1 male and 1 female. The perspectives of both genders are worth considering.
Lastly, I don't think anyone else would have read the book any better than she did. Thanks Kristi.

A Good Story For As Far As It Goes

This book gives a pretty good summary of Martin Luther. Unfortunately, the author leaves out some very basic and important information. As such, I can not give the book high marks.
The first glaring omission is in regards to the good news. I find that many folks speak about the gospel and come to find out that others referring to the gospel are talking about some other good news. So, each time the author mentions gospel, I wonder which good news is being mentioned.
It's not adequate to say the gospel of Jesus. While it is true that Jesus was the prophesized messiah who would restore Israel's kingdom, that was not the only good news associated with Jesus. When the four gospel books refer to Jesus' message, it is called the Gospel of the Kingdom. And, the Hebrew folks understood that he would restore David's kingdom and vanquish their enemies. But, years later, Jesus taught Paul the gospel of the grace of god. This is totally different. In many regards, this gospel appears to be the one Martin Luther referred to. It's also not accurate to say that the gospel of Jesus refers to just who Jesus is or what he is recorded as saying. But, no where in this book does Eric clarify or explain the gospel.
Lastly, when convenient, Eric eludes to bible passages. But so many times, the references are either old testament or out of the 4 gospels. Eric did mention that Martin taught the book of Romans, but otherwise omits the content of his lessons. Eric could have mentioned how much Martin Luther appreciated the book of James, etc. But alas, this book does not dive into all of Martin's strongly held beliefs.
So, the book is enjoyable for what it is. But, I will search for another which includes a more complete biography of this man.

This book seems to contain obscure facts. As such, I will need to independently verify the book's content. But with that said, the reader needs to think more about the concepts presented than the words used. For example, the word cult is used to describe the Brethren. Although the author did define 'cult' so it wouldn't be confused with the normal definition, a less abrasive word would have been better. And yet the author uses words like radical and indoctrinate perhaps due to their connotation. If the author had not mentioned being against Darby and his group, it would be easy to determine based on the language used. Anyway, I find the book to provide a useful insight, but only if the reader can somehow ignore the inflammatory grammar.

I have only listened to Bill’s teaching concerning Paul’s writings. I’m considering getting his other teaching books. However, I think Bill repeats himself often enough so I am confident on his theology. Bill is very well grounded on the gospel. However, most of the time, he will define it as who Jesus is and what Jesus did. I remember one time when Bill clarifies that the good news is specific to Jesus’ death burial and resurrection. Most references to the gospel are very generic ‘what he did’.
Overall, Bill’s teaching lines up with the Bible. And, I recommend him as a teacher. With that said, he intentionally overlooks certain major points. And, when he stresses those points, it really irritates me.
First, Bill uses Peter’s definition of an Apostle instead of the criteria Jesus used.
Second, Bill ignores Paul telling the churches that he is in chains. Bill says that Paul was free.
Third, Bill believes that Paul’s position in the legal system is of Paul’s own making with little consideration for the two years that Paul was in jail prior to appealing to Caesar.
Fourth, Bill seems to consider the rapture of the church as part of Jesus’ second coming. The way he supports that belief is by disregarding any scripture that doesn’t support his viewpoint.
Lastly, Bill doesn’t explore what Paul calls a mystery. For many, Paul preached a different gospel than the 12 because the risen Lord taught Paul things that the 12 were not ready to understand. Therefore, Bill’s perspective is slightly off especially when it comes to distinctive differences between the four gospels and the books penned by Paul.
But again, Bill is very accurate on most of what he teaches. So, I believe my time was well spent listening to this series of books.

I really would do better reading this myself. I can not understand the words as spoken by the performers. I wish I could get a refund.

The author does a good job enumerating the various battles in and around Israel. The author associates the motives of the Christians and Muslims with religion. However, when the concept of Hebrews in Israel comes up, the author don't appear to know the religious history. In short, God promised Abraham a section of land. Muslims consider Abraham as their father. Hebrews consider Abraham as their father, and Christians understand the importance of Abraham. However, those with a hereditary claim to the Holy Land are the Hebrews. So, the whole battle between Muslims and Christians is stupid since neither group has a spiritual claim to the land. It would have been a nice cap to this book to point that out.

Reacher is most known for his brawn, brains, and body. Perhaps for the first time, he has tried to add stealth. In other words, it seems obvious what contribution collaborators added to the usual Reacher character. Who ever came up the the 'play dead' scenario seemed to pull that out of a magic hat. Jack would never do something like that. But doing such a lame shenanigan added a few chapters to the story. And plausible or not, Jack would have been more active when locked up all night with a friend.
So, Jack did have plenty of opportunities to solve mysteries. And Jack had plenty of chances to beat people to death. But he should have shot a few folks that he beat up. At least the old Jack Reacher tended to use his guns to avoid some fights.

The Funniest Book Yet

I've now listened to 25 Reacher books. Although Lee Child has been somewhat predictable in how he writes, this book includes goofy things about the Russians and Nazis. Book 24 introduced the stupid story line of Russian disinformation. Book 25 carried that stupid story line one step further. Now, the Russians are hoping to cause Americans to distrust election results. I understand that the Reacher books are fiction. But at least Child usually incorporates true facts to help make the stories believable. But this story includes too much that's known to be false.
Since this book was published prior to the 2020 presidential election and all that went on with it, I give Child an A+ for predicting the future. Sadly, the Russians were not behind the election fraud. Also, I found it very humorous how ANTIFA was depicted. I don't think that even the Nazis think ANTIFA is a noble group.
So, something has changed with the Reacher stories. It's not a positive difference. The old Reacher story lines were better. Perhaps that's why Dick Hill isn't the reader? So while book 25 incorporated many of the same concepts as the original books, I will probably stop reading new Lee Child stories if book 26 also includes more false narratives.

Too Unbelievable

I had high hopes about reading a Jack Reacher story based in Texas. Unfortunately, there was just enough goofy stuff to make the story too unbelievable. For example, the lady from California talked about Texas being stolen presumably from Mexico. Statements like that supported the idea that she would lie about anything. So her character wasn't consistent.
However, Reacher's attitude about illegal immigrants definitely reflects the stereotypical Northern attitude. It is unattractive that Reacher is so sympathetic toward law-breakers and shows little to no compassion towards the local population. This too is inconsistent for an ex law officer. It's a little goofy that the only intelligent folks come from out of state. The local Texans are backward and stupid. This too is unrealistic. So, the story was half OK and not up to par with my expectations.

Human Drama Including Submarines

This book involves the stories involving several people during world war II. The people are in one way or another associated with submarines. Instead of a book that provides tactics and events of submarine battles, this book provides the human drama back story. I enjoyed getting the perspectives encountered due to the fog of war. But then there were unnecessary stories including homosexuals and nurses.
I expect many people will thoroughly enjoy this book. But, per my ratings, I think it's just an average book. Although the sound bites from the '40s was a good addition.
