Dashed expectations
Revisado: 02-14-25
I was so ready to love this series. The characters lacked dimension and the plot was awkward and clumsy.

I thought listening to all the antics and adventures of Darell, Sally and Gwen would not be same all these years later but they were even better! I still wish I had gone to school at Mallory Towers!

Historia
Sam and Sadie—two college friends, often in love, but never lovers—become creative partners in a dazzling and intricately imagined world of video game design, where success brings them fame, joy, tragedy, duplicity, and, ultimately, a kind of immortality. It is a love story, but not one you have heard before.

The story was NOT helped by the reader
Revisado: 07-26-24
The reading was pretty awful for most of the novel. I so wanted to like this book, and I think it would have had a fighting chance with a different reader. The introduction of the other reader felt random and distracting. I think reader choices need to be made with more care…

Historia
Between his work on the 2014 Audible Audiobook of the Year, Hamlet, Prince of Denmark: A Novel, and his performance of Classic Love Poems, narrator Richard Armitage ( The Hobbit, Hannibal) has quickly become a listener favorite. Now, in this defining performance of Charles Dickens' classic David Copperfield, Armitage lends his unique voice and interpretation, truly inhabiting each character and bringing real energy to the life of one of Dickens' most famous characters.

Richard Armitage is a wonder!
Revisado: 06-16-24
I have always loved David Copperfield best of all of Dickens’s works. I could not have imagined anyone being able to enhance that work in any way, but Richard Armitage has achieved it! His rendition of Mr. Macawber pronouncing Uriah Heep’s name is nothing short of genius! “HEEP!” I hear it still! A must listen!🔥🔥🔥

Historia
Inspired by her research for the hit podcast Ultra, Rachel Maddow charts the rise of a wild American strain of authoritarianism that has been alive on the far-right edge of our politics for the better part of a century. Before and even after our troops had begun fighting abroad in World War II, a clandestine network flooded the country with disinformation aimed at sapping the strength of the U.S. war effort and persuading Americans that our natural alliance was with the Axis, not against it.

Rachel Maddow is a jewel in the journalistic firmament and a real Mensch!
Whenever I feel discouraged and despairing about humanity’s chances, I will listen to Prequel, gird my loins, take a deep breath and get on with the work of bending the moral arc of the universe towards justice.

Historia
J. Robert Oppenheimer was one of the iconic figures of the 20th century, a brilliant physicist who led the effort to build the atomic bomb but later confronted the moral consequences of scientific progress. When he proposed international controls over atomic materials, opposed the development of the hydrogen bomb, and criticized plans for a nuclear war, his ideas were anathema to powerful advocates of a massive nuclear buildup during the anti-Communist hysteria of the early 1950s.

Historia
We live in a world that’s obsessed with talent. We celebrate gifted students in school, natural athletes in sports, and child prodigies in music. But admiring people who start out with innate advantages leads us to overlook the distance we ourselves can travel. We underestimate the range of skills that we can learn and how good we can become. We can all improve at improving. And when opportunity doesn’t knock, there are ways to build a door.

In his celebrated debut novel, God’s Own Country, Ross Raisin tells the story of solitary young farmer, Sam Marsdyke, and his extraordinary battle with the world. Expelled from school and cut off from the town, mistrusted by his parents and avoided by city incomers, Marsdyke is a loner until he meets rebellious new neighbour Josephine. But what begins as a friendship and leads to thoughts of escape across the moors turns to something much, much darker with every step.

Historia
Somewhere out beyond the edge of the universe there is a library that contains an infinite number of books, each one the story of another reality. One tells the story of your life as it is, along with another book for the other life you could have lived if you had made a different choice at any point in your life. While we all wonder how our lives might have been, what if you had the chance to go to the library and see for yourself? Would any of these other lives truly be better? In The Midnight Library, Nora Seed finds herself faced with this decision.

Historia
Many famed music producers are known for a particular sound that has its day. Rick Rubin is known for something else: creating a space where artists of all different genres and traditions can home in on who they really are and what they really offer. He has made a practice of helping people transcend their self-imposed expectations in order to reconnect with a state of innocence from which the surprising becomes inevitable. Over the years, he has learned that being an artist isn’t about your specific output, it’s about your relationship to the world.

Best talking about his own process
Revisado: 07-31-23
When Rubin is speaking about his own process, what and how he works it's insightful and very helpful. It is, unfortunately, only a small part of the book. There's a lot of Zen-Master-offering-koans-for-deep-thinking kind of stuff that I just didn't think was all that helpful and distracted from the good bits. Also the gong... the gong was not a good idea. By the end of the book it made you kind of scream out loud...
