Historia
When the body of a bookseller is discovered, collapsed in a pool of blood in his Bristolian bookshop, it is immediately clear that he has been murdered. What is unclear is how someone could have met such a violent end in this quiet, peaceful place. DS Cross is adept at dismissing red-herrings but a worrying development in his personal life has left him hopelessly distracted, leaving his usual means of deciphering evidence challenged.

Historia
At first glance, the murder of Peggy Frampton looks like a burglary gone wrong. But DS George Cross, with his meticulous methods, thinks otherwise. The victim, a former mayor of Bristol, is now an online influencer whose forthright opinions attract the kind of attention that most people would like to avoid. There's no shortage of suspects. Cross's investigation will lead him from Peggy's unfaithful husband to her gambling-addicted son, to a scorned former lover with a grudge. But she also has political enemies in her past.

Disappointing
Revisado: 06-10-22
For starters, way too long! The narrator’s use of gravely voices and vocalized pauses was quite annoying. The story was meant to be shocking, but really was not all that interesting. I will not listen to this author or narrator again!

Love DC
Revisado: 11-24-21
I couldn’t wait for this book to come out! The DC Smith series has been one of my, all time, favorites on audible, the writing and the performance make it a superior listening experience. The way Peter Grainger uses humor is so clever and refreshing as well. That said, I found this book lacking the complexity and characterizations that the others had. I missed the nuanced relationships and silly banter. The mystery felt less involved, and DC was rather stilted as well, just not quite the same. Still, I enjoyed it, and Gildart Jackson’s voice is as appealing as ever, I’d listen to him read almost anything!

Historia
As a Japanese-American fisherman stands trial for murder on an island in Puget Sound, snow blankets the countryside. The whiteness covers the courthouse, but it cannot conceal the memories at work inside: the internment of Japanese Americans during World War II, an unrequited love, and the ghosts of racism that still haunt the islanders. First novels rarely attract as much attention as Snow Falling on Cedars. Remaining on best seller lists for months, it has cast a spell on listeners across the country.

Good story, too long
Revisado: 10-20-21
I read this book many many years ago and remembered it fondly. I still love the story, but don’t necessarily think it translates to audio all that well. The performance was good, but he was a SLOW reader. If you have the time for a bit of a long ramble, go for it. I lacked the patience, and somehow still got through it,!

Not great
Revisado: 10-20-21
I have liked Esken’s books in the past, but this one was lacking. I found Lila very annoying, unbelievable, and pretty ignorant. Most people would not keep secrets the way she did for starters! Overall, the story was not credible. The psychological elements were pretty lame as well. I did finish it, but it wasn’t for me. Just don’t bother!

Too long
Revisado: 09-11-21
Waaaay too long. The sincerity tone of the reader is almost intolerable. The story has a few unique twists, but generally not worth the hours and hours of overall annoyance. The main character is incredibly melodramatic. Just don’t bother!

Historia
A large country mansion. A locked room. A gruesome murder. Russian oligarch Alexander Volkov has invited 1,000 guests to a party at his palatial Surrey residence, Westgrave Hall. But while giving a private tour of the library, a gunman kills Volkov, wounding his ex-wife and slaying her new beau. Nothing makes sense to DCI Craig Gillard. In the blood-spattered crime scene there are no forensic traces of anyone else involved, CCTV shows no one entered or left the library, and everyone seems to have an alibi.

Historia
Mariana Andros is a brilliant but troubled group therapist who becomes fixated on The Maidens when one member, a friend of Mariana’s niece Zoe, is found murdered in Cambridge. Mariana, who was once herself a student at the university, quickly suspects that behind the idyllic beauty of the spires and turrets, and beneath the ancient traditions, lies something sinister. And she becomes convinced that, despite his alibi, Edward Fosca is guilty of the murder. But why would the professor target one of his students?

Horrible
Revisado: 07-07-21
Definitely don’t waste your time on this one! I loved The Silent Patient, but this fell short in so many ways! The story was just lame, and how many times does the heroine’s name be repeated? Marianna this, Marianna that, I began to hate the name! The reader was similarly annoying. The storyline when it was all over was pretty unbelievable, bordering on ridiculous.
Too bad, I was really hopeful, despite a number of negative reviews.
