So good!
Revisado: 04-29-25
I was intrigued the whole way through! I thought the ending was believable and consistent to the rest of the story, whereas sometimes I feel that authors want to surprise you so much that they write an ending inconsistent to the tone of the rest of the book. Not so with this one.

From the critically acclaimed author of the ALA Notable and Charlotte Huck Honor Book Forever, or a Long, Long Time comes a moving own-voices story that shines a light on how one girl’s learning differences are neither right nor wrong...just perfectly individual.

Enlightening

As a parent of a neurodiverse child, this helped me see inside the mind of someone whose mind isn't typical. It gave me more compassion for those who struggle with things I don't. Loved the descriptions of how one's brain processes emotions and stimuli.

Historia
Somewhere out beyond the edge of the universe there is a library that contains an infinite number of books, each one the story of another reality. One tells the story of your life as it is, along with another book for the other life you could have lived if you had made a different choice at any point in your life. While we all wonder how our lives might have been, what if you had the chance to go to the library and see for yourself? Would any of these other lives truly be better? In The Midnight Library, Nora Seed finds herself faced with this decision.

Intriguing

I loved the concept and the narrator was engaging. Some great quotes to pull out of it.

Historia
Jennette McCurdy was six years old when she had her first acting audition. Her mother’s dream was for her only daughter to become a star, and Jennette would do anything to make her mother happy. So she went along with what Mom called “calorie restriction." She endured extensive at-home makeovers while Mom chided, “Your eyelashes are invisible, okay? You think Dakota Fanning doesn’t tint hers?” She was even showered by Mom until age sixteen while sharing her diaries, email, and all her income. In I’m Glad My Mom Died, Jennette recounts all this in unflinching detail.

Interesting narrative
Revisado: 08-18-22
If you've ever wondered why someone could say their mother isn't wonderful or why she's not their best friend, listen to the commentary of Little Jennette. It was validating for me as a daughter of a narcissistic mother to hear the similar thoughts as Jennette and manipulative actions of her mom.

Good concept, okay execution
Revisado: 08-20-18
I liked and agreed with the main ideas of the book. It did, however, have several statements peppered throughout that I felt were sexist and cemented the very stereotype of boys that we should be steering away from. We do need boys who are emotionally intelligent, but we shouldn't put them down for not being so. My husband listened to bits and pieces of it and when I asked him to listen to the whole thing, he said that from what he'd heard from it, he doesn't think he'd be able to get past the few dated opinions to be open to the other ideas.
I also felt that the way the narrator moved between the two psychologists was confusing and disruptive. I think it could've been executed better by having two narrators.
