Historia
In the Spring of 1926, the corpses of three men are found in shallow graves off the beaten path in Epping Forest outside of London - each shot through the heart and bearing no identification. DCI Alec Fletcher of Scotland Yard, the lead detective, is immediately given two urgent orders by his supervisor at the Yard: solve the murders quickly and keep his wife, the Honorable Daisy Dalrymple Fletcher, away from the case! Thankfully, Daisy's off visiting their daughter at school. But when a teacher is found dead, Daisy is once again in the thick of it.

Good Story, Hard to Listen To
Revisado: 01-27-23
I have enjoyed the characters, plot, and writing style of this book and others of Carola Dunn's series. The narration got in the way for me on this one. The narrator's style of pronunciation and delivery was uncomfortably melodramatic. She went over the top to create regional accents to the point that it became hard to understand and distracted from the story line. In fact, I put the book away a couple of times because it was irritating. I only pushed on to the end to find out what happened in the story, and to get a chance to warn others by writing this review. (In fact this is the first negative review I have ever written for anything.) Finally, I look forward to listening to other Carola Dunn novels, but will avoid those narrated by this actor. Thanks to Carola Dunn and to Audible.

Historia
England, 1919. Verity Kent's grief over the loss of her husband pierces anew when she receives a cryptic letter suggesting her beloved Sidney may have committed treason before his untimely death. Determined to dull her pain with revelry, Verity's first impulse is to dismiss the derogatory claim. But the mystery sender knows too much - including the fact that during the war Verity worked for the Secret Service, something not even Sidney knew.

Perhaps a Good Story, but a Sad Performance
Revisado: 08-02-22
This story might have been engaging if it had been read with any expression or variance from the droning monotone of the reader. I am tempted to find the printed version so that I might enjoy the content of the story. I could not get beyond Chapter 2. The performance was so dry. Skipped ahead a couple of times, looking for a change, but I had no luck. This young lady used to read this book read it like a laundry list. I will avoid buying any future books narrated by her.

Choice. Power. Speed. Today's leaders continually face these forces. But with too many choices, too much power, and too much speed, leaders often make decisions in a heightened state of emotion (and drama). Hasty decisions are often poor ones, and in this climate there is no place to hide. Privacy is a thing of the past; the days of covering up or ignoring a problem are over. In today's transparent culture, the decision making of leaders is more vulnerable than ever - and it is more critical than ever to get it right.

Loved the content of this book. I can't wait to implement the ideas. However, the book reader hardly took a breath, sometimes making it difficult to understand. More pauses in the right places please. thank you

Historia
Inspector Treadles, Charlotte Holmes’ friend and collaborator, has been found locked in a room with two dead men, both of whom worked with his wife at the great manufacturing enterprise she has recently inherited. Rumors fly. Had Inspector Treadles killed the men because they had opposed his wife’s initiatives at every turn? Had he killed in a fit of jealous rage because he suspected Mrs. Treadles of harboring deeper feelings for one of the men? To make matters worse, he refuses to speak on his own behalf, despite the overwhelming evidence against him.

An Experience Worth Repeating
Revisado: 12-22-20
I so enjoyed this book that I was compelled to listen to it again after finishing it the first time. The plotline is intriguing and artfully constructed, the characters are well developed without being overdrawn, and the language sometimes borders on poetic. I am so looking forward to the next book in this great series. Bravo!

Historia
For years, rumors of the "Marsh Girl" have haunted Barkley Cove, a quiet town on the North Carolina coast. So in late 1969, when handsome Chase Andrews is found dead, the locals immediately suspect Kya Clark, the so-called Marsh Girl. But Kya is not what they say. Sensitive and intelligent, she has survived for years alone in the marsh that she calls home, finding friends in the gulls and lessons in the sand.

Historia
The Overstory unfolds in concentric rings of interlocking fable that range from antebellum New York to the late 20th-century Timber Wars of the Pacific Northwest and beyond. An air force loadmaster in the Vietnam War is shot out of the sky, then saved by falling into a banyan. An artist inherits 100 years of photographic portraits, all of the same doomed American chestnut. A hard-partying undergraduate in the late 1980s electrocutes herself, dies, and is sent back into life by creatures of air and light.

Historia
"I’m James Taylor and I’m a professional autobiographer", says the celebrated folk singer at the start of this tender audio memoir. Through decades of music by one of the best-selling musicians of all time, who created classics like "Fire and Rain" and "Carolina in My Mind", James Taylor has doled out his history in the poetry of his work. Taylor says his early life is, "the source of many of my songs", and Break Shot is a tour of his first 21 years in rich, new detail.

Like Hearing from a Dear Brilliant Friend
Revisado: 02-04-20
So loved hearing James' dear familiar voice in words and song. Hiis stories filled in gaps about what I knew, and helped me understand his creations more. His talented work was such an influence and encouragement in my youth, and I continue to listen to his beautiful music today. Thank you, James Taylor!

Historia
Evan Evans is a young police constable who has traded in the violence of city life for idyllic Llanfair, a Welsh village tucked far away from trouble. Nestled among the Snowdonia mountain range, Llanfair looks to Constable Evans like a town forgotten by time, but he quickly learns that even the bucolic countryside has its share of eccentric - and deadly - characters.

Great book, not as great sound quality
Revisado: 07-24-19
I liked this book but struggled with the narration. The narrator had a pleasant voice, but it modulated between a whisper and a normal speaking tone several times in a sentence. It was difficult to hear the whispered parts, and I had to keep backing up.
That being said, I love this writer's style and way with words, and will look for more of her works.
