Historia
Evan Smoak is a highly trained former government assassin who has survived for years by keeping his circle to a few trusted confidants and a strict code he calls “The Ten Commandments.” But when Evan suddenly finds himself at odds with his oldest friend, all the rules he lives by shatter—and the consequences are murderous. Tommy Stojack might be Evan's best friend in the world. He’s a gifted gunsmith who has created much of Evan's own weapons and combat gear. But now, he has apparently crossed one of Evan's hardest lines and their argument explodes into open warfare.

NEVER READ REVIEWS PRIOR!
Revisado: 03-04-25
I’ve loved every Orphan novel to date, and I wish I hadn’t read any reviews before listening. So many people complained that the author had become political and/or there was a right wing type of protagonist. Don’t fall for this trap, I kept waiting for things I read as such but they were so minimal, yes there are some current world undertones, but you have to have a villain and a real reason for the hero to do his thing. The book was just as good as the others and even more character development. It’s a normal progression of a great story. If you enjoy the series, this one won’t disappoint. People that do bad things are not exclusive to a single demographic.

GREAT Addition to the Series - a few oddities
Revisado: 03-12-24
The last 2/3rds of the story were perfect - the first 1/3rd of the book, I had to keep looking at the title series "Orphan X" to remember I was listening to his storyline. The guy got rocked over and over for the first third, like a rookie trying to get through training, couldn't handle the "wolf", couldn't get a handle on himself. I almost stopped listening - but glad I didn't. The ending (everyone says its a cliffhanger) - its not, its simply a thread bridge to the next book that will tie this up nicely. The ending of this story was very heartwarming and he finally got his groove back. I still gave it 5 stars because I had to see how it ended, and it didn't disappoint - glad I didn't review this early in the listening - or abandoned the story all together.

ANOTHER Great Story - Narration CRAZY off:
Revisado: 12-06-23
My 20th book in this series - Listened to every one, never gave anything less than 5 stars, but I have to give this a big ding (Mark Boyett, by far my favorite narrator), totally messed up or forgot or whatever, changed the voice inflections for 4 of the main characters in the arc of all 20 books.
Graves, totally different voice: Claver Voice (different, more hillbilly): G. Tourov (old lady like now), Leeson (just different)..... all other voices similar but the big disappointment was definitely Graves (Who plays a huge part in this story) - totally different voice.
I get it, M. Boyett narrates a LOT of books and different series that I have also listened to. I can only imagine how many voices he has to account for in his narration, but to totally be off the mark with one of the main characters in book 20 of this storyline - just disappointing. Its one thing to have to get used to a replacement narrator in total (thats understandable and business sometimes), but to have the same voices for most of the characters and be off on ones you associate with the same narrator - he just missed the mark here. Surprised the author let this go into production.

When Charlie is seventeen, he meets a dog named Radar and her aging master, Howard Bowditch, a recluse in a big house at the top of a big hill, with a locked shed in the backyard. Sometimes strange sounds emerge from that shed.

Not normally doing a review outside of star ratings, but this was a really enjoyable story. So good that I actually listened to the last 8 hours of the audio book twice. A great introduction to the characters, the storyline, everything. A real surprise and one of the most enjoyable audiobooks I've listened to out of my over 300 title selections.

By far the best yet.
Revisado: 09-15-21
This one gives you the best from Omega Force and the best from Scout Fleet. The combination of both worlds and storylines colliding with a great ending makes this the best in the "overall series" yet. No wonder why 4.9 is the overall rating on this one. The question is does the author keep going down both paths separately or combine them into one storyline? The combination of these could be a real treat. It felt like I got an Omega Force light book out of Scout Fleet book 3.

One of the Best Yet and it just gets better.
Revisado: 11-08-19
Ok, I've listened to all but a few of Lee Child's Jack Reacher books. This one by far, for me, is the top of the list. Action, legitimate storyline, and one bad-a$$ Reacher. I've also come to hear Scott Brick being the voice of Reacher now. His range of accents is vast and a gold standard in a lot of audible titles. Dick Hill is still an original Reacher, but Brick is right there - Reacher has an edge to his character and voice inflections. Its hard to switch narrators, but Brick is an amazing choice alternative for Dick Hill.

Historia
Exploring New Earth should be a thrilling undertaking. Instead, the more the colonists learn about the planet, the more alarmed they become. Alien ruins hint at a species who fought great wars among themselves and disappeared centuries ago. When Connor Gates discovers a hidden bunker, he finds something he never expected. Everything the colonists have learned about New Earth’s previous inhabitants is wrong. Connor must race to unravel the mystery. The colonists must face the possibility that they are not alone and that New Earth was never theirs for the taking.

Very good Concept - back to Connor Gates
Revisado: 01-16-19
I thought this book was an excellent continuation of a series that has really gone far. All books so far have been totally unique, but the saga and the new world has really expanded. This one really focused back on the original Connor Gates - he is mostly featured and his role in this book is perfect. Back to being a badass and back to being the focal point; but this story is much more. It really show the progression of the storyline, where the story can go, and keeps you guessing. yea there are some frustrating characters written in - but you have to paint the picture somehow as a writer. I think this is one of the best, but I think that after each title in this series. Keep it up, you can expand this "universe" in many different directions.

Narrator Change - Scott Brick - WOW!
Revisado: 12-06-18
I know this review will get some boos, but replacing Dick Hill was not easy feat to accomplish - step in Scott Brick. If you have never listened to Scott Brick, they couldn't have picked a better replacement. Scott Brick, more so to me, famous for his John Corey stories by Nelson Demille that has a similar protagonist. Scott Brick paints Reacher without much of a loss of Mr. Hill. Everyone ages and voices change, but Scott Brick is a younger Dick HIll in tempo, accents, etc. Give it a chance. Things change over time. This change (like bond characters, may be hard for some to get used to), but it has to happen. I'm encouraged with Reacher stories if they can retain Scott Brick to be the continued voice of the series for the future. Great call !!!!!

A chapter in this book that RIVALS anything !!!!!
Revisado: 08-09-18
I usually don't write reviews in detail, but I had to in this case. I've been a solid Sci-Fi Space opera listener for 4+ years with over 200 books in my audible account. In this book, part 4, there is a chapter that encompassed the up / down / and most satisfying listen I've experienced in any book ever. Chapter 10. I'm not going to spoil anything in this chapter, but I equated Chapter 10 in this book to the last 20 minutes of the Shawshank Redemption movie (What Andy Dufrain did to escape prison and the plan he hatched that was disclosed, to Victor Shiloh and what he pulled off with the OC). I've listened to Chapter 10 at least three times - and Chapter 10 is only 10 out of 28, but this one proved the writing style the performance of Luke Daniels, and the entire storyline in one amazing and most satisfying part. AMAZING!!!! writing and performance.

Soup to Nuts - a GREAT read/listen AND....
Revisado: 07-13-18
This story in roughly 12 hours completes the entire saga - although it could continue. The nice thing about this "series" is that other book series, could have dragged this story line out 6-8 books. the author really did a phenomenal job in completing the entire story-line in a traditional movie-esque timeline. Knowing that the crescendo was coming made the story really tie up nicely. A lot of action, some politics, multiple races, intrigue, space opera battles, villains, etc., etc., etc. A great release to have a full story line done in one. Will try others from this author simply because he nailed this one!!!!!
