Easy Practical Can Do Actions
Revisado: 02-28-25
The step by step approach for the audience makes you able to create your personal plan to fix your finances. The actions items in the to do lists allow you to be an active participant in planning your financial health personalized for your situation. This was the first how to guide that I could understand and easily follow the steps, which were realistic and I enjoyed following. The book is an excellent how to guide for anyone.

Historia
If it weren’t for Emma Johnson, Caryn Johnson would have never become Whoopi Goldberg. Emma gave her children the loving care and wisdom they needed to succeed in life, always encouraging them to be true to themselves. When Whoopi lost her mother in 2010—and then her older brother, Clyde, five years later—she felt deeply alone; the only people who truly knew her were gone. Emma raised her children not just to survive, but to thrive. In this intimate and heartfelt memoir, Whoopi shares many of the deeply personal stories of their lives together for the first time.

I. Connected To This Story
Revisado: 08-13-24
I loved this book. I especially loved that Whoopie read it like a conversation with a friend. I had a mother like Whoopie and was also devastated when she passed on. I experienced similar feelings described in chapter 13. There is not a day I don’t miss my mom. I recently lost my husband of thirty-seven years and all though the loss was different, I connected with chapter 14 as if I were speaking to a friend. Thank you Whoopie for writing this book.

Historia
Money - investing, personal finance, and business decisions - is typically taught as a math-based field, where data and formulas tell us exactly what to do. But in the real world people don’t make financial decisions on a spreadsheet. They make them at the dinner table, or in a meeting room, where personal history, your own unique view of the world, ego, pride, marketing, and odd incentives are scrambled together. In The Psychology of Money, award-winning author Morgan Housel shares 19 short stories exploring the strange ways people think about money.

The last chapter was a little technical at the end. I liked the summary in the post script.

The Color Purple is about Humanity
Revisado: 01-09-24
I read this book in 1986. Since that time I watched the first movie, the first Broadway musical, the second Broadway musical and the last movie musical. You can forget the original story Alice Walker wrote when you get caught up in the rewrite of the original story. I wanted to hear the story again to remember the original message Alice Walker told to us. To me, this story is about humanity and how people relate and connect to one another as individuals, groups, strangers, family members, cultural groups and tribes. It’s about how we treat each other based upon our own beliefs and experiences. But it is mostly about how we demonstrate understanding, kindness, love and forgiveness that allows us to experience joy and happiness within ourselves. I think the book sends the greatest message to us at a time when this country needs to hear it the most. Everyone, if they already have not, should read or listen to Alice Walkers original words. This is the Color Purple movie or Broadway musical I want to see. Nobody has done that yet.

Historia
This is the story of how a nerdy, homeschooled kid in the church choir named John Stephens became the Grammy-winning, platinum-selling, genre-pushing pop star we know as John Legend. For a long time, he led a double life—excelling as a star student while his home life was in shambles, working in corporate America as a financial consultant while moonlighting as a musician in nightclubs, always straddling a line between the person he was and the person he wanted to be. These are his Words + Music.

Listening to his story in his own words was inspiring to me. I love his music and his style more than ever. I also have a new appreciation for his creativity and song writing.

Historia
The New York Times Magazine’s award-winning “1619 Project” issue reframed our understanding of American history by placing slavery and its continuing legacy at the center of our national narrative. This new book substantially expands on that work, weaving together 18 essays that explore the legacy of slavery in present-day America with 36 poems and works of fiction that illuminate key moments of oppression, struggle, and resistance.

Very Educational
Revisado: 05-24-23
I learned so many things I never knew. It puts into perspective the many elements involved in the systemic racism faced by Black Americans and explains for me the why all other cultures and immigrants view Blacks in such low disregard. Thank you to Nicole Hannah-Jones for writing the New York Times article and taking it further for all to have a better understanding of the Black Experience.

Historia
W.E.B. Du Bois said, on the launch of his groundbreaking 1903 treatise, The Souls of Black Folk, "for the problem of the 20th century is the problem of the color-line", a prescient statement. Setting out to show to the audience "the strange meaning of being black here in the dawning of the 20th century", Du Bois explains the meaning of the emancipation, and its effect, and his views on the roles of the leaders of his race.

Required Reading for Every American
Revisado: 02-14-23
I read this book as required reading in college, but did not fully appreciate the writing of its author until I listened to it on audible. The existence of the slave, negro and black people have evolved, but the essentials of America that nourishes the soul of our people is still lacking. This book captures all that has not evolved for our people, along with all that makes us strong, creative, and envied by others. No wonder they don’t want people to learn of our history…it brings shame upon them and fills them with fear that we rise against all odds each time.
