Almost DNF but glad I stuck with it
Revisado: 09-15-22
First things first, the gore was over the top and the present-day couple was boring. However, the other pair was so sweet I wanted to cry at the end. Also, the plot had a sluggish start but once it picked up steam I felt like I was riding a bullet.

Historia
Patricia Campbell's life has never felt smaller. Her ambitious husband is too busy to give her a goodbye kiss in the morning, her kids have their own lives, her senile mother-in-law needs constant care, and she's always a step behind on thank-you notes and her endless list of chores. The one thing she has to look forward to is her book club, a close-knit group of Charleston women united by their love of true crime and paperback fiction. At these meetings they're as likely to talk about the Manson family as they are marriage, motherhood, and neighborhood gossip.

Train Wreck
Revisado: 08-10-22
Almost all of the characters were interchangeable. Halfway through the book, I gave up trying to remember the names of everyone in the book club because there were no substantial differences between them. However, the most annoying trait was one the entire cast shared, the ability to make their IQ plummet to zero at the drop of a hat. I literally laughed at how clueless they were. The worse part was that it seemed like things such as child abuse rape and domestic abuse appeared to be nothing more than attempts to distract from sloppy writing.

Duke and Sam Deserved Better
Revisado: 08-07-22
The only reason I'm not giving this one star is because I loved the characters. I kept hoping the story would improve even after Sam and Duke became morons for the sake of the plot. I was sorely disappointed, it only got worse... The author was not only in desperate need of a thesaurus they also felt the need to keep repeating information. As for the ending, it came with a villain monologue and I was half-excepting the narrator to say they all lived happily ever after...

I feel like calling it a romance is harsh.
Revisado: 03-13-21
Yes, the romantic subplots are still ongoing . Yes, it does play a bigger role because plot reasons I can't get into without spoiling the story. However, none of that changes the fact that at it's core it is a murder mystery.

Much Better Than the First Book
Revisado: 01-28-21
In case you could not tell by the title I enjoyed this book. The world grew immensely and the characters felt like well-rounded people rather than horny rabbits forced into saving the world. That all being said I do almost wish that the book had been split into two because there was so much going on.

Historia
The fate of empire is to crumble from within. A heinous murder in a small village reveals a terrible truth. Sorcery, once thought dead in Enhover, is not. Evidence of an occult ritual and human sacrifice proves that dark power has been called upon again. Twisting threads of clues lead across the known world to the end of a vast empire, and then, the trail returns home. Duke Oliver Wellesley, son of the king, cartographer, and adventurer, has better things to do than investigate a murder in a sleepy fishing hamlet. For crown and company, though, he goes where he’s told.

the sex was annoying...
Revisado: 05-20-20
You can tell the smut was only there to up the page count. I found myself extremely frustrated by it because almost all of the sex felt forced and random. The worst part is the this would have been a five star book had the soft porn been cut out. Nevertheless, when the characters aren't attempting to get in each other's pants the plot was truly enjoyable. I guess I'm trying to say I hope book two will be more plot focused
