Epic world building
Revisado: 03-09-24
The final book wove together all 16 books and favorite characters from the various regions came together in plausible and purposeful ways. Hobbs makes it seem easy but the complexity of getting all the characters from various times and regions of her elderling world is masterful.

If you are in to first person historical accounts of spiritual healers, this is a good listen for you. It’s a niche history but if you’re in to history and spiritual thought, don’t hesitate on this one.

Historia
From America's most inventive novelist, Jonathan Lethem, comes this compelling and compulsive riff on the classic detective novel. Lionel Essrog is Brooklyn's very own Human Freakshow, an orphan whose Tourettic impulses drive him to bark, count, and rip apart language in startling and original ways. Together with three veterans of the St. Vincent's Home for Boys, he works for small-time mobster Frank Minna's limo service cum detective agency. Life without Frank, the charismatic King of Brooklyn, would be unimaginable.

A ten out of five-star performance
Revisado: 11-05-19
Not the kind of book I usually like, but Cantor’s performance is transfixing. And thanks, Lethem, I’m craving NYC sandwiches with little hope of getting there anytime soon.

Historia
For years now, readers of the Russell Memoirs have wondered about the tantalizing mentions of Japan. Mary Russell and Sherlock Holmes had spent three weeks there, between India ( The Game) and San Francisco ( Locked Rooms). The time has finally come to tell that story. It is 1925, and Mary Russell and Sherlock Holmes arrive home to find...a stone. A stone with a name, which they last saw in the Tokyo garden of the future emperor of Japan.

Three chapters in and no story
Revisado: 03-26-17
I could not get into this book. Three chapters in there was still no story line and no reason to like the main character, Mary. It was full of prissy erudite references and descriptions of the English countryside, but who cares? Nothing gripping after three chapters

Read andI read and reread and always learn more
Revisado: 11-25-15
I don't like to reread books, but this book, which unlocks the Bible and makes it usable, is one that I study every day. The first chapter is a practical guide on how to pray. The final chapter, Fruitage, is 100 pages of testimonies from people who were healed just by studying this book.
This would be one of my selections if I were on a deserted island and had to choose just five books that I could have.
It is well read. There are a variety of readers so I don't get bored. They have strong analytical reading skills. The vocabulary is not always easy and I've found their pronunciation perfect.
