Thrilling Ride...

Total
4 out of 5 stars

Revisado: 08-24-10

Publisher: Ballantine Books
Purchased: Purchased Audiobook from Audible

What I Loved: This was the 2nd book in this series and it was firing on all cylinders. From beginning to end, the case was intriguing and chilling. Perhaps the best part of the book was the continuation of the story between the Surgeon and Rizzoli. It was wonderful to watch the story unfold from both of their perspectives in a unique, emotional, and raw way. I won't give away any spoilers but I will say that the story takes many twists/turns that will leave you breathless.

What I Liked: I liked the introduction of Isles in this book. It was understated but you got the feeling that she is going to become very important in the series. I also like the fleshing out of the character of Frost. I think he and Rizzoli make a great cop partnership and together they make a very solid foundation to build cases upon.

Complaints: Only one, I did not enjoy the narrator for this book. She made Isles sound really masculine and I believe my total dislike for Dean comes from the way she voiced him.

Why I gave it a 4: This was a very good follow-up to the first book in the series. Tess did not cheat her characters by automatically healing them from the things that have happened but she also didn't victimize them. She let them grow naturally and for that reason I am excited to read more from her.

Who I would recommend it too: I would recommend this book to thriller readers. It was well-paced, well-written, and well-delivered!

What I LOVED: I had (still don't) who Carla Collins is but she is freaking hilarious! This was a book about life and with her witty spin, I was laughing out loud while listening to it. She narrated her own book and you could tell she was making herself giggle at times.

What I LIKED: She talked about real things and gave real examples under each of the categories she talked about. She reads at a really good speed--I know this seems like something odd to mention but really the speed worked really well for the book. I also like that she blames Speidi for all the worlds problems :) (Totally Agree LOL)

Complaints: To short but hey that is just because I was completely entertained.

Why I gave it a 4: I laughed so much I was almost crying at parts. Carla is funny, down to earth, and really knows how to deliver a story. A not to miss autobiography in my book.

Who I would recommend it too: Fans of Chelsea Handler or Jen Lancaster should enjoy this one :)

Review: I listened to this book on audiobook and laughed out loud (or LOL as Abby would put it) so many times that I think my co-workers thought I lost my mind. The story itself is really well paced, has the right amount of sardonic humor, and the characters are very true to themselves. It is a love story at heart but there is so much going on that you sometimes forget that. I know that a book about vampires and evil vampire cat's named Chet does not seem like it would be a good read but trust me when I say you won't be disappointed. My only problem, and this just might be with the audio version, is the number of different main POV's. It was a little hard to follow at times but it was easy to catch up. I loved the ending, I thought it was perfect for this book.

WARNING: If you have a problem with foul language or acronym language (LOL, OMFG, OMG, etc) this is not the book for you :)

Wonderful Journey

Revisado: 07-30-10

What I Loved: As a History Buff--I absolutely love that this is more of a history lesson on marriage (and all that encompasses. Ms. Gilbert did an amazing amount research on this topic all across the globe. She was non-judgmental and really kind of just presented the facts.

What I Liked: I listened to this on Audio book (just as I did Eat, Pray, Love) and I think it made me like the book more. Elizabeth reads her own book, so she is very good at conveying what she is feeling during the reading. This adds a whole layer to the book that I think might be missing in the print version.

Why I gave it a 4: This audio book was wonderful. I would recommend it to anyone who is curious about commitment and the history of it through out the world. I also love that at different points she was good at making sure that the reader also knows that there is a good amount of happiness in being single too. If you love history and personal stories then you will enjoy this (as long as the topic appeals to you).

Storm Born Audiolibro Por Richelle Mead arte de portada

Fun Read!

Revisado: 07-30-10

What I LOVED: Each character in this book was really unique. They all had individual personalities that did not necessarily conform to what the heroin would want them to be. I loved her minions, her screwed up love life (and lovers), and her family/friends (even those she did not think were friends).

What I LIKED: This book was more fun than I thought it was going to be. Having only read The Vampire Academy books by Richelle, I was surprised at the amount of snarky humor that was in this book. I laughed out loud several times. It was a fantastically fun read.

What I thought was SO-SO: I don't like Eugenie's name. Other than that nothing else was bad or so-so.

Why I gave it a 3 (or 3.5): I was really impressed with the humor, wit, and fantastic world that Richelle created. I am really enjoying stories of Faeries lately and this fit right into that genre. I would recommend this to any PNR or UF fan.

Not What I was Expecting

Revisado: 07-30-10

What I Loved: Molly narrated her own book and I think this works for this book. She has a good reading voice.

What I Liked: This book covers everything from dinner parties to lipstick. I can't think of a topic that she did not cover. In that aspect, this book delivered on it's promise to give you advice on how to handle anything. I also enjoyed when she threw in antidotes about her life over the years. Those little stories were the best part of the book.

What I thought was So-So/Didn't Like: I really wanted to love this book but most of it was "eh". I am not sure that most of her advice is good for everyday people. It is probably because I am not a fashionita. I do figure that I am not the main target audience for this book. It just seemed a little out of reach for most normal people.

Why I gave it a 2: I will admit that this is one of those books that will probably get ratings from bad to good because it really is more of a personal type of book. The advice either appeals to you or not. I love Molly Ringwald and feel like this book will appeal to other people. It just didn't work for me.

Who I would recommend it too: Anyone who likes non-fiction advice books on beauty, travel, wine, and cooking.

My Horizontal Life Audiolibro Por Chelsea Handler arte de portada

Fun Time!

Revisado: 07-30-10

What I Loved: Chelsea is so very Chelsea in this book. She gets herself into the most unique situations and always seems to keep a sense of humor about herself. She manages to make even the most uncomfortable situation funny.

What I Liked: She never names people--she gives them cute little nicknames. I also like the chronological order of things, her situations change as she gets older and she doesn't try to make herself look like a saint.

What was So-So: Not a darn thing! I listened to this on audio book and found myself laughing out loud often.

Why I gave it a 4: I love reading auto-biographies that are interesting and fun. Chelsea managed to keep a sense of humor about her life and relay that to the reader/listener.

Emotionally Draining...

Total
4 out of 5 stars

Revisado: 06-15-10

This is a very hard book to review because I refuse to give any of the story away. I will say this is an emotional journey of one mom and her family (moms, dads, inlaws, children, friends). It was a very good story and I needed kleenex a few times as my eyes teared up. I had never read an Anna Quindlen book but I will be checking out more of her titles. She is a very talented storyteller and writer. My only warning would be don't read the jacket and/or if you do please understand that no matter what you guess, you will be wrong (or at least 99% of people will be wrong). The story is so worth just going along with it and the emotional payout is well worth it!

I enjoyed listening to this book. Simon Vance did a good job at distinguishing the characters. This one is one you need to pay attention too or it can get confusing.
