Historia
By the time she became US Ambassador to Ukraine, Marie Yovanovitch had seen her share of corruption, instability, and tragedy in developing countries. But it came as a shock when, in early 2019, she was recalled from her post after a smear campaign by President Trump’s personal attorney and his associates—men operating outside of normal governmental channels, and apparently motivated by personal gain. Her courageous participation in the subsequent impeachment inquiry earned Yovanovitch the nation’s respect, and her dignified response to the president’s attacks won our hearts.

WAY BETTER THAN EXPECTED
Revisado: 02-19-23
I am learning so much from this book, from leadership, to history to politics - and I am not even done yet. I am still in Chapter 8. Also, it is written and read in such language and style that I feel an affinity with the author. She is definitely one of few bigger-than-life personalities that I would like to meet in person. I pray I will have the privilege of meeting her one day.
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. Very American point of view, however, which is understandable given the author's work. If you are anti-American, I can almost hear what you have to say. But if you keep an open mind, there are a lot of diamonds in this "field", open for the taking.
PS. This book gave me that warm feelng I get every time I chance upon a good book.

Historia
On The Power of Vulnerability, Dr. Brown offers an invitation and a promise - that when we dare to drop the armor that protects us from feeling vulnerable, we open ourselves to the experiences that bring purpose and meaning to our lives. Here she dispels the cultural myth that vulnerability is weakness and reveals that it is, in truth, our most accurate measure of courage.

I stopped before the end of session 2. I wanted to finish the entire thing because I felt that the topic was interesting, but I got disturbed by the constant "ahhm" and "does that make sense". I realized this was a lecture, and the "ahhm" and "does that make sense" are predominant when she is "free-talking" and trying to be funny. Maybe if she was reading a written material, like a book, the problem would not be there.
Also, this only has 6 sessions, so I expected all intro material to be finished by session 1. Yet, in session 2, I still could not understand where we were going. "Shame is something people do not talk about or want to talk about" was already hammered enough in session1, but it kept coming back in session 2. Worse, I could not see the direction she was taking me. She compared shame with guilt, for instance, but I could not see what the comparison meant. Was it better to feel guilt than shame? Does it mean we should inculcate guilt in kids? It was like a hodge-podge of information without a way for me to organize them in my head.
She mentioned doing a Ted Talk. I did not get to watch it beforehand. If I did, or maybe if I was in her live audience, the experience would have been different. I don't know. I just know that this particular book did not cut it out for me.
If you like the author, I suggest you get a real book of hers, not a recorded lecture or seminar.

Disappointed
Revisado: 10-08-22
Could not finish. Probably better if read by someone like Paul Michael. Also, if you read Team of Teams, you'd find the first few chapters drawn out and unnecessary.

you probably dont need this
Revisado: 07-09-22
if u have been reading a lot of new age books, u probably do not need this. it is over-simplified, which made me wonder if the material i was hearing was from the book or was inserted as a comment. i feel like i wasted money on this. i wish there was a good copy of the original work.

This book's suggestions may furnish you a key to open up the way to the attainment of your desires, and to explain that Fear should be entirely banished from your effort to obtain possession of the things you desire. This presupposes, of course, that your desire for possession is based upon your aspiration for greater liberty.

Historia
There will be nothing said concerning metaphysical theories or philosophical hypotheses; instead, there will be a very strict adherence to the principles of psychology. These subjects, while highly important and interesting, belong to a different class of investigation, and are outside of the limits of the present inquiry. We shall not even enter into a discussion of the subject of "what is the mind"; instead, we shall confine our thought to the subject of "how does the mind work".

Not Happy
Revisado: 07-09-22
Struggled to finish. Content was not great. It lacked specific illustrations, and reference to authorities lacked specifics. But I would probably have at least enjoyed it if it had a better reader. Reader had a singsong tone that was the pattern for his reading throughout. I will not get another book by the same reader, regardless of author.
