Historia
Selah’s biggest dilemma was trying to decide what to study in college. That is, until she stumbled across a clue to the grandparents she’d never met and hopped on a plane to Mexico where she would discover an entire hidden world of magic and monsters. Her best friend was a bruja, the Chupacabra was more than a myth, and she’d inadvertently caught the attention of the terrifying Blood King with golden eyes. What started as a two-week vacation quickly devolved into an adventure she might never return from.

Unique UF series set in Mexico!
Revisado: 03-18-23
First off, I had already read the book and loved it, so I was really excited when I heard it was coming to audiobook. Especially when I saw Nichole James was one of the narrators. She has such a great voice for narrating.
This is a unique UF novel set in Mexico. I love the non-traditional setting (for UF). And I loved the folklore and mythology that are woven into this tale. Also, the descriptions of the local food and desserts make me hungry!
What I love the most is the slowburn romance between the two main characters, Rafael and Selah. Rafael is one of my favorite book boyfriends ever, and his quiet, kind consideration of Selah is heartwarming. They're both excellent main characters.
The story is great fun, and the narrators definitely bring it to life. Highly recommend audiobook!

Historia
Lady Luck missed her flight to Dublin. My enemies, however, did not. All I need to do is stay alive until my 45th birthday, and then the rest of my life will be mine to screw up without the help of my family’s curse. A couple rogue vampires and the hottest man I’ve ever laid eyes on will do everything they can to derail my plans. Okay, maybe I don’t mind the hot man so much. Hopefully the ancestors will help a sister out for the next 36 hours. Midlife isn’t supposed to be this dangerous.

Hilarious fantasy with an "older" FMC
Revisado: 12-07-22
This book was freaking hilarious. I laughed out loud several times while listening. The FMC had the best way of expressing things. She was awesome! She was tough and smart, with equal amounts of practicality and acknowledging her fears and weaknesses. Maybe it helped that she was an "older" FMC--and by that I mean she was well out of her 20's. As someone who is pushing 40, I appreciated having a FMC with a little more age on her.
The settings were on Earth, but managed to feel exotic, nonetheless. The balance between downhome Texas and a world teeming with ghosts, vampires, magical creatures, etc. was particularly engaging to me. The MMC was sexy and mysterious--like, it's the end of the story and I'm still not sure what he is or what he does. I've a feeling that will be explained further in the next book. He was super intriguing, though, and I'm very interested to see more of him.
Be warned, this story ends on a massive cliffhanger, which is great if you're like me and enjoy cliffhangers!
Extremely well-done audiobook. Ruthie Bowles' narrating is superior to none. She truly shines and brings this book to LIFE.

Romantic fairytale retelling
Revisado: 10-10-22
Two things I really liked about this story. I loved how it picked up the tale of Sleeping Beauty after the kiss, and I loved how the two main characters didn't immediately fall in love. I adore a good slow-burn romance and it was fun to see the characters have a romance that developed slowly and had meaning to it. They faced real struggles and had hard issues to overcome, all set in a fairytale setting, before potentially getting an HEA. It was fun to read a non-insta-love fairytale.
The other thing I really liked was how the author wove in snippets from at least two other well-known fairytales into this Sleeping Beauty retelling. I wasn't expecting that, so it was a good twist, especially if you're a big fan of fairytales. Which I am!
I would highly recommend this book/series to anyone who enjoys YA fantasy, clean fantasy, romantic fantasy, and/or fairytale fantasy. The settings are beautiful, the plot keeps you entertained, and the characters get better as the stories develop.
I listened to the audiobook and Nichole James has such a pleasant, easy voice to listen to. She did a beautiful job narrating this book.

Enchanting Fae romance
Revisado: 08-18-22
I was hooked from the first sentence of this book. The writing and world-building is absolutely gorgeous. I loved the idea of Fae and Earth sort of combined--or else next-door neighbors. I enjoyed the beautiful world of the Fae sprinkled with realistic Earth references.
I actually rated the story 4.5, and that's because of the MC, Aerinne. She is supposed to be young, in comparison to the Fae lord, Prince Renaud. She is fiery and feisty and I understood that she was filled with hate towards Renaud for killing her mother. I also understood that she's supposed to be young and I'm sure she'll grow and mature as the series progresses. I did have a lot of sympathy for her, and I admired her spirit. Sometimes, her dialogue made me laugh out loud. However, at times she could really try your patience...
Which I'm assuming is the point. I do love watching character growth.
I was interested in the relationship between Renaud and Aerinne. I liked how she didn't just roll over and fall for the Fae prince immediately. I liked that she resisted, even when people around her kept warning her not to. I'm definitely interested to see how the relationship will progress.
The narrator did a stupendous job. She made all the accents believable and kept me intrigued and engaged.

Excellent romantic fantasy trilogy!
Revisado: 05-18-22
This is one of those rare trilogies that gets better with each book. Each book is definitely worth listening to, though. As the story progresses, the plot gets twistier. Secondary characters have bigger roles. There is a surprise romance in Book 3, which I loved! The villian's schemes get darker. Desperate times call for desperate measures, and there are definitely some desperate times in this book! There were a couple of twists I did not see coming, and I always love that. However, the series is tied up nicely with a HEA.
The narrator did a great job. She is easy and exciting to listen to.
I would recommend this series to anyone who enjoys fantasy and fantasy with romance. It is good for both a YA and adult audience. Really a very good series. I've recommend it to others and will continue to do so.

Wonderful sweet paranormal romance
Revisado: 12-16-21
This review refers to the Audible audiobook version.
I went into this story not knowing what to expect. I'm still not exactly sure how I would classify it. Christian paranormal romance? Paranormal romance with a slight Christian theme? Paranormal romance but slight on the paranormal? The exact genre is a little hard to identify, but it was a very entertaining story. The author easily swings the story between nowhere Kansas and New York City, painting vivid settings that are easy to imagine. The main character is kind and resilient. I loved her grandparents. Liam is mysterious but sweet and protective. The characterization of Jeremy was spooky, and I thought it was very realistic how a girl could get caught up with a guy like that. I enjoyed the book very much and will definitely look forward to seeing how everything plays out in Book 2.
I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys romance, women's fiction, paranormal romance, Christian romance, Christian paranormal romance, Christian fantasy, or any sub-genres in-between. There is a slight Christian theme that should appeal to the religious, but it's not heavy-handed at all, so the reader who isn't religious should still enjoy the book.
The narrator has a calm, soothing voice and did an excellent job.
