The scathing part:
Made it halfway through chapter 2.
If you’re going to produce a book about the value and amazing potential of storytelling as being vital to sales as it is to survival - as a business or society - some might want to use actual stories as examples, or at least vary the phrasing to keep things fresh.

The most bland, boring, story-less How to on telling stories I have attempted to read thus far.

The appreciative part:
However, it does include accurate information and offers real insights on the content marketing industry that could be very valuable to those willing to plod along or compliment their reading with videos, perhaps, by copywriters about the same topic.

There is no shortage of copywriting influencers with strong, clear brand voices offering techniques, tips, and even certification courses for those curious about this topic who might need a little more pizzaz or be willing to pay for some glitz like accountability groups, extended coaching access, books, etc.

This book seems right on but for an audience seeking basic bland facts about the topic rather than examples or success / failure stories to learn from - so far.

It’s a good neutral primer but could be greater bedazzled or with pendants cheering students on towards income streams that could enhance their lives or support their families.

For readers who don’t need that sort of infantilizing support, this book will be just fine.

Engaging take down - hit piece about how Pharma, Med Health, and Social Media industries conspire to confuse folks into believing that synthetic Rx meth and coke alternatives are good for us - while retaining that they do actually help a lot of people. Way to ride the line! Loved it! I signed up for more with another episode.

Feels like listening to the most entertaining audio- docuseries with music and great sound bites from direct sources, but they leave some key sources and facts out and by the end it drags on like an indictment of the medical, social media & Pharma industries for like tricking anxious or depressed people into hoarding all the best psych meds for themselves, causing shortages “for people who really need them”.

I’d press them to interview old guard Stanford University professors and researchers who can define and explain ADHD so clearly and concisely according to medical definitions that even a monkey like me could understand.

They also leave out the new research on alternative treatments and how much diet and physical exercise, fresh air & sunlight, can impact ADHD, especially processed foods like red and blue dyes, sugar compounds…

Love the fact that this audiobook’s not just medical jargon and it goes deep into the social and historic waves of research and products, and urges us to ask the bigger questions about what ADHD means and will mean to society’s future.

I wish they’d add chapters about the possible link to autism…

I wanted to hear more.
Loved it! So comprehensive with the zoom ins on case studies and zoom outs of societal historic and socioeconomic changes!

But in the end I felt no better equipped for the decision of whether or not to medicate my 7 y/o who has such mysterious psych issues from a complicated birth that we’re on our way to Amen Clinics to get him scanned.

Did SPECT brain scans or EEGs or Cat scans or extensive 4 hour ADHD testing make it into your series? I might have missed those chapters.

Thanks. Please fill in the blanks with a follow up!!! Loved this! I felt pumped listening to it!

Love ❤️ the parallel here this case study of a couple's success - together - focusing on helping through challenges because great copy - shouldn't it always come from the idea of helping someone you love?

Like customers or clients? If you don't love people or have love in your life then why help anyone anything, right?

I have noticed that using copy methods and techniques can improve marriages and other family relationships.

Start with "You". Pause our focus on " I", or "me". Meet the prospect of "we" as a partnership...

Highly Recommend! This book is a work horse, giving a thorough overview of types of writing projects in this growing field, how to land clients, and even what to do when your docket has reached max capacity.

This author is a mom (like me) and that’s why she got into this business, and I appreciated most how she touched on that connection point without droning in about typical mom stuff like constant competing demands on our time, etc...

I have read a lot of similar books (would also recommend Robert Bly for books on becoming a copywriter) and the thing I love most about this one is that Susan Anderson is not about wasting whole chapters asking fluffy questions like, “Are you emotionally prepared for success?” “Do you have a dedicated writing or business space to work in that inspires you?” “Do you know how to operate a phone / email system / blog / etc.” “Can you communicate in a reasonably professional or at least pleasant manner with clients and potential clients?” Duh! Right?

This author skips all that an assumes the modern reader is ready to game, saving you time and space on the pages. She cuts to the meat of the matter of how to make money writing in a practical, realistic way.

My favorite part of this book is when she talks about becoming your own client ;) that was something I hadn’t considered in that way before and it was a little inspiring without being cheezy.

Fair warning: there were of course a few plugs for her other books and educational products / courses. Plugging is to be expected with books like this (part of the sales funnel system she discusses) and I’d say she plugs in a tasteful, minimalistic way and saves the big plugs for the end.

She wrote this so well I might actually consider taking a course from her program but I’ll start with the info she provides here to see if I can succeed with that first.
