Historia
It was supposed to be simple favor for my very important boss - go to his good friend Tex Jameson's luxury ranch and provide personal medical care for his recently injured teenage son. I thought it'd be a working vacation of sorts, but everything is upside down, and absolutely nothing is as I thought it would be. For one, this patient is not a teenage boy. He's a real-life, blue-eyed, tough-as-nails, 30-something cowboy who is so darn strong he looks like he could lift a car just for the heck of it.

This audiobook was criminally good. It made me actually laugh out loud for 10 minutes straight. And not the hee hee kind of chuckle to yourself. I mean, I straight up was laughing loudly, out loud. The banter between these two characters is what I crave when I’m reading a romance.
This was an enemies to lovers. It was a slow burn. It was a single dad trope. You have the grumpy sunshine without being cringe. Country boy and city girl. It was SOO GOOD!! There were a couple of things I felt like could’ve been fleshed out more but all in all amazing.

Eight years ago I fell into a secret summer fling with my best friend’s little sister before our lives went in different directions. Now, I’m the grumpy to Juliet’s sunshine on a popular dating podcast we host, and when a wealthy fan gives us a charming coastal cottage as the biggest thank you ever, we head to the town where I grew up to give it a makeover. And find the house has only one bed. Located under a mirrored ceiling.

I liked this very much and related to Annie way too much. The only thing I didn’t like was that the voice of Annie, sounded way too young. Like a child. Her voice compared to the guys was just… it just clashed a bit.

But after breaking up with her longtime famous musician boyfriend, hiding out in a small town in the mountains might be the perfect remedy for a broken heart. And checking out her landlord who lives across the driveway just might cure it, too. Only Tobias Rhodes didn’t rent out the apartment to her, rather it was his teenage son, Amos.

10/10 if you’re trying to ease out of reading pure smut. This was a natural fall in love story. It didn’t have labels. It wasn’t overly flirty. A perfect grumpy x

Historia
I'm destined to become the next CEO of my family's media empire. The only problem? My grandfather's inheritance clause. Fulfilling his dying wish of getting married and having an heir seemed impossible until my assistant volunteers for the job. Our marriage was supposed to be the perfect solution to my biggest problem. But the more we act in love for the public, the more unsure I feel about our contract. Caring about Iris was never part of the deal. Especially not when breaking her heart is inevitable.

The first book was way better
Revisado: 02-08-25
I thought this was cute at first but it just didn’t make sense and was cringe in a lot of ways. I don’t mean the story had plot holes. I mean the way they responded to certain situations was too unrealistic. If they were a real couple instead of a book couple, they would surely divorce. Declan hurts Iris at one point then manipulated her into, making himself the victim. It’s not a big thing in the book and I won’t spoil it but it was a huge red flag to me. Not to mention some of the banter just seemed… corny? But not in a cute or funny way. It could’ve just been the delivery from the voice actors.
Speaking of, Declan’s VA was great. He did a good job and I have no complaints. Iris’ VA wasn’t too great. I wasn’t sure if I liked her voice initially. She would put too much emphasis pronouncing certain words.
I don’t even know where to start with the cringe. Iris making a big deal about the dyslexia was pretty cringe. I come from the same situation as Iris and have dyslexia as well. It’s pretty bad and I almost didn’t graduate because of it. I was bullied for it and felt stupid. I hated people knowing about it and would avoid conversation about it. But I would never get teary eyed over a man doing something nice about it. Declan is a harda**. Just because he does a few thoughtful meaningful things doesn’t make up for the excessive workload mentally and emotionally.
Overall, this was kind of disappointing compared to book 1.

No, thank you.

I’m actually surprised this isn’t great
Revisado: 02-03-25
Normally, I’ve read Hazelwood’s books and have liked them. I think she’s a good author who writes modern romance well. She’s good at writing characters with chemistry and a good storyline. But for me this particular book I couldn’t even finish. I was pretty close to being done. Think I had maybe 30 minutes left, but it was just so boring. The beginning had me hooked for sure. I thought the concept was cool. But our guy and girl just had the hugest misunderstanding. I don’t mind a misunderstanding trope where things could’ve been interpreted a little bit differently because things are ambiguous. But this was just terrible. When you listen to it, you realize how ridiculous it is. It would make more sense if these people were middle or highschoolers. Their adults who have professional jobs who should understand social interactions with each other and their colleagues. For me, it was just way too juvenile. I really thought I would like it. Again, it had a great start. The voice actors did a good job. But the misunderstanding was flat out ridiculous and I just couldn’t believe it.

The first letter arrived the day my husband was buried. It was postmarked from the state penitentiary, and contained a single sentence: I’ll wait forever if I have to. It was signed by Dante, a man I didn’t know. Out of simple curiosity, I wrote back to ask him what exactly he was waiting for. His reply? You.

Honestly, good book. The hot stuff was hot and the plot was plotting. A lot of books like this have poor plot. But I was as engaged with the plot as I was with the spicy fun times.

Storyline- 2/5
🌶️- 2/5
Narration- 5/5
Characters- 4/5
This is my least favorite book in the series so far. It’s a second chance romance which I’m usually not a fan of unless the other person deserves a second chance. The love and heartbreak in the story was written very well and was extremely relatable. I felt for the characters. They included some of the other characters from the other books which I thought was cute but you could still read it as a standalone.
