Historia
What a delight it is to finally be able to enjoy a simple meal again! I have been in the throes of morning sickness for the last few months as Darcy and I prepare to welcome a brand-new addition to our little family. Now that I am feeling better, I have realized I am dreadfully bored! It seems that all my nearest and dearest are off leading their own busy lives while I sit at home and attempt to train our two adorably naughty puppies. Fun as it may be, it is hard not to long for a little adventure, a change of pace, before my true confinement begins when the baby comes.

review of Peril in Paris
Revisado: 01-13-23
This book has more complexity than many other Royal Spyness stories, but I thought it bogged down toward the end. It was saved by the ending. I appreciate Jasmine Blackborow's performance as it adheres so closely to that of the late lamented Kathryn Kellgren. She just needs to work on her Irish brogue.

Historia
Georgie, or Lady Georgiana Rannoch, is busy planning her upcoming nuptials to Darcy O'Mara. Unfortunately, what has started as a simple wedding has become quite a royal headache and grand affair, thanks to a guest list that includes the queen and the appointment of princesses as Georgie's bridesmaids. “If only Darcy and I had eloped!” she thinks, as she attempts to organize her wedding and find a place for her and her husband-to-be to live. Just as she despairs of ever finding a home, her godfather offers his fully staffed country estate. But something sinister is afoot....

Review of Four Funerals & Maybe a Wedding
Revisado: 03-22-22
Rhys Bowen's cast of characters is always delightful, especially Lady Georgiana, Darcy & Georgiana's grandfather. In this story, Georgiana's mother comes through in a rare moment of action in helping to rescue her daughter & father from peril.
I love the narrator, appreciating her words commemorating Kathryn Kellgren whose reading of the Royal Spyness series I felt was perfect. I met Ms. Kellgren some years ago & was very sad to learn of her passing.

Historia
This second book in the legendary Lymond Chronicles follows Francis Crawford of Lymond who has been abruptly called into the service of Mary Queen of Scots. Though she is only a little girl, the queen is already the object of malicious intrigues that extend from her native country to the court of France. It is to France that Lymond must travel, exercising his sword hand and his agile wit while also undertaking the most unlikely of masquerades, all to make sure that his charge's royal person stays intact.

Revisado: 03-07-22
Less difficult to follow than book I in Lymond chronicles. There were fewer passages which failed to move the story forward. The performance was excellent, the story gripping. Wonderful descriptions involving the pageantry of the period, i.e. 2nd half of 16th century in France.

Historia
The charming village of Llanfair, the setting for Rhys Bowen's beloved Constable Evans mysteries, sits amid lush, rolling Welsh meadows populated with quaint cottages and is considered by many of its colorful locals to be a kind of paradise. Unfortunately, there aren't many opportunities for young people in Llanfair, so when an exciting and glamorous American woman breezes into town talking of dormant psychic powers and important social research, barmaid Betsy Edwards is quick to take her up on an offer of employment at the recently opened Sacred Grove New Age center not far away.

Overall, I enjoyed this production very much. I
loved the story: great combination of humor, suspense, mystery & local color. Interesting comments on Druidism. The narrator was good, especially with the Welsh accent, but overall his delivery lacked dramatic flair.

Historia
The aromas of wild thyme and Highland heather waft through Lochdubh, home to M. C. Beaton's eccentric policeman, Hamish Macbeth. Yet what the irascible constable smells in his latest case is the acrid scent of fear as an entire town is entrapped in something dark and deadly.... Yet as he deftly investigates the summer's high crimes and misdemeanors, he attracts the attention of his superiors. They feel a promotion and transfer will give him a larger playing field than Lochdubh. That's the last thing Macbeth wants.

Historia
On May 1, 1915, with WWI entering its tenth month, a luxury ocean liner as richly appointed as an English country house sailed out of New York, bound for Liverpool, carrying a record number of children and infants. The passengers were surprisingly at ease, even though Germany had declared the seas around Britain to be a war zone. For months, German U-boats had brought terror to the North Atlantic.

Very well written. The performance was a little pompous, but the style suited the gravity of the story well on the whole. I was glad to learn about the context of the Lusitania's end and especially the importance of submarine warfare in WW1. The stories of survivors and victims of her destruction gave the account vivid life.

I loved this story. It was complex enough to keep my interest. Curiosity about the way the many threads would be united in a colorful fabric kept me listening avidly from beginning to end. George Guidall's delivery was superb -- one of his best performances in my opinion.

I found this story gripping. The winter setting underscored the human tragedy & suspense involved. The character of Inspector Rutledge as well as his imaginative pursuit of his investigation made him, as always, a highly sympathetic figure.
