Trying to resurrect Mitch & Amy McDere from The Firm in a new adventure fails badly. There were no twists or turns to propel the story and using Amy as the go between also failed miserably.

Great follow-up to The Terminal List. The character was well defined and knowledge of SOCOG and tactics well covered.
Outstanding depth of story to connect it all was well done.

Why everyone loves the character of Orphan X is because he is skilled, dispassionate, and has many of the similar qualities of a James Bond with unlimited access to masculinity. Too much feminine emoting, getting in touch with his feelings, expressed further in the support character’s of Ruby, etc.
Ophan X doesn’t need the woke bullshit.

The cold case unit heats up. Well presented. Worth the time . I enjoyed the audio book and Titus Welliver’s enactment of Bosch.

Of all those at Fox News, Tucker Carson is the most fair in his interpretations of the political realm of which he examines. He is one that will consider options posed by whomever (left or right) before coming to a logical conclusion. Always witty, Tucker exposes the hypocrisy of Capitol Hill and their self-serving undertakings. He elucidates how our leaders use their power to not only line their pockets, but openly abuse those they supposedly serve. His narration is an added bonus!!

Non-fiction

What does Marcus L Gitterle bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

His medical expertise.

Do you think Growing Young needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?

People remain interested in anti-aging. The vitamin and supplement industry is a several billion dollar industry developed primarily from discretionary spending.

This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?

Someone who isn't bored with an over elongated plot and is served by a disjointed and easy and very predictable ending.

Would you ever listen to anything by Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child again?

I have many Preston and Child books including the Agent Pendergast series. All, including their individual works, are typically well designed and congruent. Thus, I consider this more of an anomaly than their true to form books with more thoroughly developed characters and intricately plausible plots.

Did David W. Collins do a good job differentiating all the characters? How?

A satisfactory job. His character development was weak which subsequently led to a less than fulfilling narration. Collins didn't provide much pop in his depictions. Not to his fault, Preston and Child provided a very cryptic characterization of the lead characters for him to work with.

If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from The Lost Island?

Gideon and girl.. I say "girl" because her character was loosely developed at best. Both spend way too much time on the island developing the final sequence leading to the climax. It was as if L&C were trying to redevelop Homer's 'Odyssey' regarding the escape from the cyclops. Moreover, far too much time is spent on the cyclops characterization. The authors then rush into the epilog, concluding with Gideon signing on for the next episode..

Any additional comments?

Gideon needs to be better developed and have a bit more masculine swagger. The 'girl' made all the tough decisions and ultimately controlled the lead character - Gideon. Perhaps they were attempting to develop a new female lead...In any case, I found the overall effort disappointing.

Would you listen to Atlas Shrugged again? Why?

Yes. The timely information and background philosophy incorporated within is timeless.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Reardon and John Galt. Readon for his tenacity to stand in opposition of a corrupt and pathetic government. Galt for his desire to remake society as it should be, with willing independent entrepreneur's working together in true capitalistic fashion. Galt dropped out and started over, enlisting the best and brightest through a co-operative revision of what capitalism should truly be, instead of allowing government to feed of those shouldering the weight of a society weakened by entitlement.

Which character – as performed by Scott Brick – was your favorite?

So many were good, I can't pick just one.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

John Galt's soliloquy.

Any additional comments?

It was wonderful that Ayn Rand used a female as the heroine, given the time of publication.

Is there anything you would change about this book?

The plot was relatively flat on a bland terrorist plot to EMP the US. It ended abruptly as did the bad guys he had started to develop but left half baked. Even the use of Scot Harvath's computer wiz midget was innocuous and disconnected.

How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?

Enrich the EMP connection with fact based information about the action. Involve some government agencies that oversee this activity not just the routine Anti-terroism units - NSA, DHS and routine support characters. The connection in North Korea was weak. And, the Chinese "Princelings" component added little if any suspense. That was precisely what was lacking in this novel, suspense and unpredictability. Too formulaic....

Which character – as performed by Armand Schultz – was your favorite?

Scott Harvath, but he was detached from most of the real actions of the story.

Was Act of War worth the listening time?

Unfortunately, no.

Any additional comments?

Come on Brad, you are better than this. It was as if the editor put you on a deadline and you needed to respond. Your usually insightful dramatic flair was conspicuously absent in this effort.

What would have made The Seven Spiritual Laws of Success better?

Common discussion instead of spiritual babble and unfounded assertions.

Would you ever listen to anything by Deepak Chopra again?

Perhaps

What didn’t you like about Deepak Chopra’s performance?

The work reviews spirituality as if it is a foreign subject and attempted to place an esoterical component within a subject that should be simply presented. It was written as if he were talking to Ph.D students instead of those searching for personal enlightenment.
