Historia
As the world anticipates its end, we Latter-Day Saints are preparing to build the city of Zion. With so much emphasis on building Zion physically on earth, we sometimes forget the best place to build Zion is within our own hearts. John Pontius carefully details the importance of Zion in our own lives, opening our eyes to our oft-overlooked obligations and vast privileges.

Clear, joyful, and full of light.
Revisado: 03-21-25
The reader is very good at narration -- I was able to listen at 3x speed! This contains many of the same themes as Visions of Glory without as much of the personal dreams or visions. It is mostly scripture commentary with some quotes from apostles and prophets. It's goal is to help us awake to the false beliefs around our traditions about "endure to the end." And to help us desire to be more anxiously engaged in connecting with God, to learn and do His will, so that we build Zion in our heart.

I appreciate the explanations and introduction the the Isaiah translation. It was engaging and the words are making more sense to me than they did before listening to this book.

Hitherto unseen literary evidence reveals a new dimension to Isaiah's prophecy that uses Israel's ancient history as an allegory of an end-time scenario. Isaiah's Hebrew gospel preempts the New Testament by teaching the path through which God empowers his children to ascent to the highest heaven.

The audio helped kept me on track with my study
Revisado: 03-06-25
I have the written version as well, but this isn't a book you can zip through. So it helped to have an audio version for all those times my hands and eyes are needed for daily life. This concept of a ladder of ascension has open my eyes and ears to so much greater understanding on how to develop my relationship with God and how to live my covenants.

Seducer = how to use manipulation for short-term pleasure
Revisado: 04-04-24
The writing is excellent. The narrator is very easy to understand at every playback speed. The thesis is rotten. I thought I would learn a new angle for what seduction could be. No, all the examples are about selish people seeking sex, power, or money. Nothing new or worth emulating.
This book explores famous seducers and aims to explain and categorize their behavior. I don't understand why anyone would want to be like these seducers. They don't have stable long-term, balanced, healthy relationships. They treat people as objects to conquer and use others as objects for pleasure and ego. Sure they get a lot of attention and have many admirers. But they also don't have any true partners or a people they can trust. All their actions seemed geared towards short-term pleasure. They don't seem to be truly happy or have prospects for happiness when they got older.
I read this hoping to understand new angles for how human psyche develops desires and goals. But this book is just full of stories of people who play a role to manipulate other people for short-term gain. I don't want short-term gain. I want to understand how to overide impulses from the lizard and ape brain. I want to understand how to use desire and persuasion to make it easier to do the things that will make us all healthier and happier.
The only advice I found worth emulating is to do a better job of paying attention to others, noticing what's important to them and what they are lacking - - and showing them you care about their interests and that you are focused on helping them realize their dreams.
Perhaps this book would help a person who has been in a toxic relationship understand how they could have fallen for someone's charms and snares. And I can see how hard it would be to resist someone with these skills if they were to focus their high energy on me. I can also see how dangerous it would be, and how much it would hurt to be used. This book is full of examples of meaningless, pointless, selfish, draining affairs.
Our world does need more people showing interest in others. But our world does not need more people who get a thrill from manipulation or affairs.

Okay, I get all the low reviews now
Revisado: 09-26-19
Both the hero and heroine have been treated poorly by others. The hero has been extremely hurt by his mother and ex wife. But the heroine always loved him. Always forgave him. She didn't judge him. But she was the one person he kept on pushing away and hurting.
SPOILER....
And she did TONS to completely fix his life and save his children. And how does he repay her??? He walks out on her again, and again, and again! He says EXTREMELY CRUEL and HATEFUL things to her in a public setting. He acts rashly after eavesdropping part of a conversation. He doesn't bother to get the whole story. He doesnt give her a chance to explain. She just spent months sacrificing and working hard to serve his family and he can't even trust her enough to listen for 2 minutes to explain.
In the end she forgives him multiple times without the hero having to do a single thing other than start mumbling a "I'm sorry" at her door before leaving her yet another time before she can explain anything. She ends up selling part of her business and moving back to town and making a big purchase so she can be his first client in his dream business. She does ALL the work. ALL the forgiving. ALL the sacrificing. Yes The hero has sacrificed and served his kids. He is a good Dad. The hero sacrificed for and served his ex-wife. But with the heroine he never did anything other than jump to conclusions, leave her, and speak cruelly to her whenever he thought she might have done something less than perfect. Yes he deserved a HEA in general because of the cruddy hand he had been dealt by life. But he never did ANYTHING to deserve the heroine. He should have been the one to make a big grand gesture.
I also dont get why everyone thinks her plan to have a summer fling was so evil, while his plan for a fling was considered okay. Only the heroine was judged. She was the one who had to bear all the crosses and make all the big gestures and be completely understanding. Also her "friends" are the one whose gossiping brought on all drama. They were instantly forgiven -- as if they hadn't done anything wrong. They just weren't that great of friends. And I don't plan on reading their stories.

Loved it! I appreciated how the romance was based on the development of friendship -- rather than bedroom scenes. This author proved she can write a strong story while keeping the bedroom door closed. Would love to see more stories with such strong character and relationship development.

Historia
Brooklyn Manning thought her life was perfect in every way, until it crumbled down around her and turned into a dumpster fire. With her pride wounded and her tail tucked between her legs, she leaves New York and goes back to her tiny hometown of White Timber, Montana. No more 24-hour taco trucks, no more shopping at the best designer stores within walking distance, no more giving taxi drivers the finger when they angrily honk at her. She didn’t think it could get any worse. But then Clint Hastings walked into the room and insulted her.

I would normally not comment on swearing. But seriously does there need to be several swear words in every single paragraph? It was just way over done. Fowl language is like a loud horn that can bring attention to certain situations. But when it is used non stop -- that horn becomes very annoying and distracts from the flow of the story.

I love this narrator!
Revisado: 05-27-19
This book had a story that flowed well. But 95% was full of error, misteps, and angst (and some comedy). The thing that help shore me up from the excess feelings frustration (in sympathy for the characters) -- was the amazing narrator. This book does have a HEA -- but the journey to that end doesn't provide much happy along the way. Thank you Xe Sands for adding to the story through your voice talent.
