Historia
This riveting debut set in 1534 England secured C. J. Sansom’s place “among the most distinguished of modern historical novelists” (P. D. James). When Henry VIII’s emissary is beheaded at an English monastery, hunchbacked lawyer Matthew Shardlake is dispatched to solve the crime. But as he uncovers a cesspool of sin, three more murders occur - and Matthew may be the next target.

Not his best, but good.

Any additional comments?
Truth be told, I wasn't thrilled with this book. Like other reviewers I found myself not so much interested in Shardlake but drawn to Brother Guy instead. But... here's the deal, listen to this book to get a feel for Shardlake, where he's coming from and the time period and then listen to the rest of the series. It gets really good. I found I had to time myself listening to the rest of the series to make sure I always had a credit available when I finished one so I could start the next right away. This book is pretty simplistic, but the others bring out Shardlake in a more interesting way and we get intoduced to a great "side kick" and for those of us that like Brother Guy, he stays with us along the ride. So although this book is by far the least interesting in the series, I wouldn't suggest skipping it. And for those of you that didn't like this book, Really, give the next book a try, it's 100% better.

Could you survive on your own, in the wild, with everyone out to make sure you don't live to see the morning? In the ruins of a place once known as North America lies the nation of Panem, a shining Capitol surrounded by 12 outlying districts. The Capitol is harsh and cruel and keeps the districts in line by forcing them all to send one boy and one girl between the ages of 12 and 18 to participate in the annual Hunger Games, a fight to the death on live TV.

I fell off of this bandwagon

Any additional comments?
I usually try to avoid the bandwagon of popular trends in books and movies, but there was soo much hype around this book and the movie that I just had to listen to it. First half: amazing! I mean I was totally hooked by the author's descriptions. I really got into the scenery and environment. I went to lunch with friends after listening to the first half and couldn't wait for lunch to be over so I could go home and listen to the second half. Unfortunatley, once Katniss gets to the Capital the whole captivating feel of the story fell apart. I mean, we already know Katniss has to live right, there are a 2nd and 3rd book, but I already "knew" how the story ended by this point and felt like the whole "games" part of the story took way too long. First half of the book I couldn't turn off, Second half I had no problem stopping. However, I don't know what everyone's problems with the narrator were, I felt she was a good voice for naive Katniss. Her performance was not the problem for me at all. But I give it 4 out of 5 simply for the performance, and the creativity of the book. It certainly wasn't horrible, not at all, but to me it doesn't deserve the hype except for the subject content.

so much fun!!!
Revisado: 09-23-10
It has been awhile since an audiobook has made me fall in love with it. I literally just finished this book and am downloading the second while I write this. No, this isn't a "deep" and thought provoking book but it is fun. I laughed out loud so many times. The author is witty and sassy, and the narrator keys right into that character. Additionally, I normally don't like female narrators, but this one really has a knack for different voices that I loved her too! I'm crossing my fingers that the next one is as much fun as this one.

Historia
Lively, absorbing, often outrageously funny, Chaucer's The Canterbury Tales is a work of genius, an undisputed classic that has held a special appeal for each generation of readers. The Tales gathers 29 of literature's most enduring (and endearing) characters in a vivid group portrait that captures the full spectrum of medieval society, from the exalted Knight to the humble Plowman. This unabridged work is based on the new translation.

Lack of coherant "chapters"
Revisado: 02-24-10
This is a wonderful reading of Chaucer's tales. The different narrators really bring each of the stories to life. I have read this book (or sections) numerous times and I have to say that this translation was by far the most easy to understand and the most engaging. I really recommend this version of Chaucer's tales. The only problem I had with it has been mentioned by others (Audible, take note) the chapters are not designated by book, but by presumably Audible's convenience, that means, you cannot skip around to different tales, you have to listen to it front to back. This was irritating, and is the only reason I give it less than 5 stars.

Miss Pettigrew is a down-on-her-luck, middle-aged governess sent by her employment agency to work for a nightclub singer rather than a household of unruly children. Over a period of 24 hours, as she becomes caught up in the life of Delysia LaFloss, her own life is changed - forever. This charming, funny, light-hearted 1938 novel was a bestseller on its first appearance. Read by Academy Award winning actress Frances McDormand, who stars in the 2008 film as Miss Pettigrew.

A wonderfully fun read!!
Revisado: 02-24-10
I loved this book!! I will listen to it again, I know it. The characters are fun, the story line is engaging and funny. The narrator is fabulous. Nothing really "deep" in meaning here, but just a really fun story. Will make you smile and laugh. I never saw the movie, but since a lot of this story is the description of what goes on inside Miss Pettigrew's head, I can't imagine that the movie would hold a candle to this book.

Composed in the last years of Roberto Bolaño's life, 2666 was greeted across Europe and Latin America as his highest achievement, surpassing even his previous work in its strangeness, beauty, and scope. Its throng of unforgettable characters includes academics and convicts, an American sportswriter, an elusive German novelist, and a teenage student and her widowed, mentally unstable father. Their lives intersect in the urban sprawl of Santa Teresa - a fictional Juárez - on the U.S.-Mexico border.

Either really good or really bad
Revisado: 02-24-10
Honestly, I'm not really sure how to rate this book. The individual stories were good, I related to many characters, however some portions were incredibly graphic about the sexual act. The overall book: awful. I kept waiting for it to "come together" but it never did. If you want essentially 5 books for the price of one, try this book. If you want a cohesive story, stay away.

Wonderful narration for an interesting story
Revisado: 07-23-09
Ok, so maybe it's not lighthearted and bright, but this is a fabulous story. Told wonderfully by Bronte and narrated incredibly! I definitly recommend this to anyone interested in a good story in the Victorian era. And I'll admit I chuckled a good number of times so there is some lightheartedness, just not a whole bunch.

Historia
Switching Time is the first story centering on multiple personality disorder to be told by the treating physician. It is the incredible saga of a young woman stranded in unimaginable darkness who, in order to survive, created 17 different versions of herself. One by one, Karen's "alters" began showing themselves: men, women, young boys, a toddler, black, white, vicious, nurturing, prim, licentious. And their "stepping out" confronted Baer with the challenge of a lifetime.

Facinating!!!!
Revisado: 05-27-09
This book was amazing. Although, yikes the descriptions of her childhood are very graphic and very disturbing. However, here's a note, most of the really graphic stuff occurs in Chapter 3, I belive, titled "childhood horrors" or something. You can easily skip that chapter and still know what she went through without as much detail through descriptions at other times. I thought I was pretty thick skinned growing up in the horror movie and action flick era that we're in now, but I couldn't take that chapter. It made me ill. The rest of the book though, Fabulous. So interesting and informative about the life of someone with MPD. I was addicted to this book. Listening at every chance I got.

Historia
For 200 years, a noble Venetian family has suffered from an inherited disease that strikes their members in middle age, stealing their sleep, eating holes in their brains, and ending their lives in a matter of months. In Papua New Guinea, a primitive tribe is nearly obliterated by a sickness whose chief symptom is uncontrollable laughter. Across Europe, millions of sheep rub their fleeces raw before collapsing. What these strange conditions share is their cause: prions.

Quite informative
Revisado: 05-27-09
I know others have put down this book because it isn't just about the life of the family that couldn't sleep. True, it is a book about prions, and tells of all of the research in many fields and into many disorders. But, scientific though it is, it really is facinating and quite easy to follow along with and understand. The reader does have a bit of an annoying habit of ending every sentence the same way with a strange inflection, but you'll get used to it, or at least learn to ignore it.

The horse Susan Richards chose for rescue wouldn't be corralled into her waiting trailer. Instead, Lay Me Down, a former racehorse with a foal close on her heels, walked right up that ramp and into Susan's life. This gentle creature, malnourished, plagued by pneumonia and an eye infection, had endured a rough road, but somehow her heart was still open and generous.

Heartwarming story
Revisado: 05-27-09
This was a nice story to listen to. Heartwarming and sweet. It was nice to have a story about a horse (or any animal for that matter) that actually stuck with the story of the animal and didn't digress (too much) to the story of the person. Horse lovers, you'll like this one.
