Way Better Than Narnia
Revisado: 12-22-24
I absolutely loved this story, and as a Sci-Fi fan I think it surpasses his more well known works. I like his writing style and use of language, but some readers might find it antiquated and hard to follow in speech. As any true Sci-Fi story should, I finished this one wondering what it truly means to be human, and the expanse of the unknown.

Historia
Helene Wecker's dazzling debut novel tells the story of two supernatural creatures who appear mysteriously in 1899 New York. Chava is a golem, a creature made of clay, brought to life by a strange man who dabbles in dark Kabbalistic magic. When her master dies at sea on the voyage from Poland, she is unmoored and adrift as the ship arrives in New York Harbor. Ahmad is a jinni, a being of fire, born in the ancient Syrian Desert. Trapped in an old copper flask by a Bedouin wizard centuries ago, he is released accidentally by a tinsmith in a Lower Manhattan shop.

I liked this story a lot. The author does a great job of creating characters suddenly exposed to human life. It makes one think about how subjective morality and convictions are.

Very well written and never boring. The character development is so layered, it’s impressive. I was pleasantly surprised at how uncomfortable the end made me.

Better than I though it would be
Revisado: 11-24-22
I was very hesitant to start the extended series written by F. Herbert’s son. However I’m pleasantly surprised with how much he was able to keep his father’s touch in the story. A lot of people complain about the narrator in these books, but he doesn’t bother me at all.

A Wonderful Sci-fi Classic
Revisado: 03-16-22
love love LOVED this story
it has everything you’d want out of a sci-fi adventure. What I love most about this story is that it dips heavily into geological science and is set in a more antiquated era. After a while the ‘thousand of years in the future a ragtag team of outcasts travel across space…” etc, etc gets old. This story is fantastical and refreshing.
