Historia
As one of the NYPD’s most trusted “tin badges” - retired detectives brought in to solve cases that are beyond the reach of the everyday force - Tank Rizzo has faced off against some of the city’s toughest criminals without breaking a sweat. To tackle a case involving a dangerous kingpin known as Gonzo, Tank turns to his best friend and ex-partner, Pearl; a former mobster living out a seemingly quiet retirement as the owner of Tank’s favorite Italian restaurant; and a team of expert misfits he would trust with his life. But Gonzo won't hesitate to make it personal.

Pretty good story, if a little far fetched. Interesting characters made the story worthwhile. Narrator made it a joy to listen to.

Great writing and characters but....
Revisado: 11-30-24
I don't know about this one. Good writing but the book didn't seem to fit neatly into any box. It was solid grit lit but then often went into these stream of consciousness jags. Frankly, I stuck it out with this one, but by the end was glad it was over.

Historia
Everyone believes Adam to be something he’s not. Sometimes that’s because he’s told them a story. Sometimes he’s told himself one. But when Adam joins an Alaskan fishing crew that’s promising quick money, the dangerous work and harsh lifestyle strip away all fabrications and force a dark-hearted exploration of who he really is. On the unforgiving Bering Sea, Adam finds the adventure and authenticity of a fisherman’s life revelatory. The labor required to seize bounty from the ocean invigorates him, and the often crude comradery accompanies a welcome, hard-earned wisdom.

This is a good one! Surprising ending.
Revisado: 11-24-24
I love a good coming of age story and this fit the bill. No spoilers here, but I will say that I didn't see the ending coming. Overall great character development, and an interesting story. You can tell the author did a lot of research on this one. Very believable.

Historia
Rice Moore is just beginning to think his troubles are behind him. He’s found a job protecting a remote forest preserve in Virginian Appalachia where his main responsibilities include tracking wildlife and refurbishing cabins. It’s hard work, and totally solitary - perfect to hide away from the Mexican drug cartels he betrayed back in Arizona. But when Rice finds the carcass of a bear killed on the grounds, the quiet solitude he’s so desperately sought is suddenly at risk.

Great book. Great narrator.
Revisado: 11-24-24
I really enjoyed this one. Great characters, and an interesting story. MacLeod Andrews is one of my favorite narrators. To me he sounds like a cross between Walton Goggins and Matthew McConaughey. Perfect for this genre. I was excited to see that the author has quite a catalogue. I'll be listening to or reading more of his books.

A chilling collection of psychological suspense and literary horror from the multiple award-winning author of the national best seller The Cabin at the End of the World and A Head Full of Ghosts. A masterful anthology featuring 19 pieces of short fiction, Growing Things and Other Stories is an exciting glimpse into Paul Tremblay’s fantastically fertile imagination.

Hard pass on this one. Couldn't do it.
Revisado: 11-24-24
Loved his first book about the narcoleptic PI and thought this would be worth a shot. It was horrible. Wish I had both my money and time back. Gave up after 2 hours of listening. Made it through 4 stories. Indulgent, pointless and incomplete. Really read like some stories the author had laying around and decided "what the hell, I'll publish these." Very disappointed. If this were the first thing I had read by the author it wouldn't be such a big deal, but knowing what great writing he is capable of made this a let down.

Historia
1970s, Southern Alabama. Sixty-two-year-old Jeremiah Lewis Taylor, or “Nub,” has spent his whole life listening to those he loves tell him he’s no good—first his ex-wife, now his always-disapproving daughter. Sure, his escapades have made him, along with his cousin and perennial sidekick, Benny, just a smidge too familiar with small-town law enforcement, but he’s never harmed anyone—except perhaps himself.

Just a great book. Great narration & characters!
Revisado: 03-11-24
Really a beautiful book. This is the third book by Sean Dietrich that I have listened to. Everyone has been beautiful. I was initially hesitant about this one as it is narrated by the author. That's usually a deal breaker for me. But not this time. The author did an amazing job with the narration. Each character was so well developed. Definitely recommend this book to anyone who is a fan of great southern literature.

Great book. Complex Characters
Revisado: 08-17-23
This was a great book. I wanted to hate the characters because they were so real and so flawed, but like our own loved ones and friends I wound up with love for them. A truly well written book. I look forward to more from this author. Narrator was great as well.

Fantastic! Top 10 book for me
Revisado: 08-06-23
Beautifully written book, amazing narration. Robin Miles has become one of my favorite narrators. You know the narrator is good when the performance compels you to seek out other performances of her work. Dennis Lehane is amazing. I’ve read or listened to just about everything he’s published. His ability to develop complex flawed characters is a gift. They are so much like real people that the reader immediately becomes invested in them. Can’t recommend this book enough!

Horrible... don't wast your time.
Revisado: 06-04-23
This was a sloppy effort. Just a dumb plot, horrible translation, illogical. The only bright spot was Ari Fliakos. I will listen to anything he narrates, but I felt for the guy having to read this slop. It sounded like a crappy novel written in German, put into google translate and plopped down in front of the narrator on a dare. Yet, I stuck with until the end. Please consider my seven hours a public service, and learn from my mistake.
