I wish we had first hand accounts like this from all the cast!

To say I loved this would be a severe understatement. I’m a huge transformers fangirl and G1 is hands down, no question, my favorite and most cherished iteration. Listening to Dan in this audiobook (which felt more like a podcast or interview) was like listening to a slightly older, more mature but still lovably sweet and enthusiastic Bumblebee.

It’s a short listen that I wished would have continued longer; I just can’t express into words the smile on my face throughout the majority of it. Dan painted vivid pictures of his memories of the auditions, recording booths, fellow cast and his entire experience working on The Transformers.

I highly recommend this to anyone and everyone who has ever felt the joy of the original G1 series and beyond.

Thank you Dan, and thank you Bumblebee!

First and foremost: if you’re hoping that this book is like the series (the way I was), it’s not. It’s like trying to compare LEGO Batman to The Dark Knight trilogy: two completely different stories and tones, headed under the same title.

The story isn’t necessarily bad, but it and the characters are NOTHING like the show, which I adore with the fervor of a thousand suns. The similarities are practically as bare minimum as characters having the same first names. The characters also lack that quality that makes them endearing in the show and if anything, they become irritating.

The writing is eloquent and beautifully detailed, but to the point where it takes 20 minutes just to describe something that doesn’t really need to be put so far in depth. I appreciate the intention of giving attention to detail, but it gets very tedious and mind numbing.

The narrator was so dull, and combined with the drawn out descriptions, it was just painful to listen to. In the book, Claire is British and listening to this guy trying to be a (badly written and cliche) British high school girl gave me a migraine.

Overall, I found this book disappointing.

When I first chose this book, I was feeling skeptical and cautious, but I quite enjoyed this story a hell of a lot. I’ve been looking for stories with aliens that aren’t just the Big Bads, and this one didn’t disappoint. It’s a simple enough plot, but the characters are very likable, and the writing is very good without being too complex or too dumbed down. While there aren’t really any female characters, I’m honestly quite fine with that. I prefer none over having women whose sole role is to be the eye-candy, romance babe for the hero. Too many sci-fi books suffer that problem, I’m afraid.

The narrator quickly placed himself in my list of favorites to listen to, with his natural performance and consistency in character voices.

I’ve already bought book 2 and I’m looking forward to the continued adventures!
