Historia
For almost three hundred years, people have searched for one of the greatest treasures in history—the lost gold of the Scottish Jacobites. Following his father’s death and a brazen late-night break-in at the United States Naval Academy, Lieutenant Carter Porter, his life and career in tatters, unwittingly joins the quest. In Scotland, Hassie Douglass, a spirited young employee of a luxury inn situated on the picturesque shores of Loch Ness, thinks her prayers have been answered when she stumbles across four old gold coins that may be part of the Jacobite treasure.

Historia
Tom Bulleit stood on a stage before a thousand people inside a tent the size of a big-top. It was both his 30th wedding anniversary and his birthday. But there was another thing to celebrate: the dedication of the new Bulleit Distillery in Shelbyville, Kentucky. His great-great-grandfather, Augustus, created his first batch of Bulleit Bourbon around 1830. A century and a half later, Tom fulfilled his lifelong dream, revived the old family bourbon recipe, and started Bulleit Distilling Company.

Historia
From the Western collectors whose demand for shrunken heads spurred massacres to Second World War soldiers who sent the remains of the Japanese home to their girlfriends, from Madame Tussaud modeling the guillotined head of Robespierre to Damien Hirst photographing decapitated heads in city morgues, from grave-robbing phrenologists to skull-obsessed scientists, anthopologist Frances Larson here explores our macabre fixation with severed heads.

Interesting, but……
Revisado: 05-16-22
So the overall concept was pretty good, and I was happily hooked with the first chapter, but it didnt stay that course. Opening chapter spoke of Oliver Cromwells head and the many adventures it had when old Oliver was done with it. This would have made a great book. Selecting different heads and telling their tales. But instead, it went on a bit about the “ideas” of the human head. Not so much about the crazy things we humans have done with them. So, it was an interesting book, but not in the way I had hoped. That could be the authors fault or it could be mine.

Historia
Lucas Davenport had crossed paths with her before. A rich psychopath, Taryn Grant had run successfully for the US Senate, where Lucas had predicted she'd fit right in. He was also convinced that she'd been responsible for three murders, though he'd never been able to prove it. Once a psychopath had gotten that kind of rush, though, he or she often needed another fix, so he figured he might be seeing her again. He was right.

Just doesn’t get better than this.
Revisado: 08-19-21
I’m a fan of all of The Lucas Davenport books, and this one is probably one of the top 5 best. It’s a thriller / mystery as well as a little bit political and police procedural all in one. If these genres are your cup of tea, and you don’t love this book and the performance by Dick Ferrone you are just out of luck cause that combo gets it done.

Historia
An off-duty Coast Guardsman is fishing with his family when he calls in some suspicious behavior from a nearby boat. It's a snazzy craft, slick and outfitted with extra horsepower, and is zipping along until it slows to pick up a surfaced diver...a diver who was apparently alone, without his own boat, in the middle of the ocean. None of it makes sense unless there's something hinky going on, and his hunch is proved right when all three Guardsmen who come out to investigate are shot and killed.

I’ll preface this by saying I am a fan of this series, but I’ll try to be objective. There are better and worse books in the collection, of course there has to be, but this one is north of average. I’d recommend every one of these books to another listener, and this one is no different.

Historia
Two words: the bullet. That's all it takes to shatter her life. Caroline Cashion is beautiful, intelligent, a professor of French literature. But in a split second, everything she's known is proved to be a lie. A single bullet, gracefully tapered at one end, is found lodged at the base of her skull. Caroline is stunned. It makes no sense: She has never been shot. She has no entry wound, no scar. Then, over the course of one awful evening, she learns the truth.

A very good book. Great double twist at the end.
Revisado: 01-27-21
I listen to a lot of audiobooks and am often underwhelmed by titles that even have a ton of positive reviews. I tried this and didn’t expect much but I was pleasantly surprised and impressed. I thought it might be a bit of a “chic” book but turned out not to be the case. The plot was well thought out, it kept moving along (a huge pet peeve of mine if they don’t) and had a great twist at the end. The twist was a tiny bit predictable, but what really put this over the top was the twist on the twist that I completely was blindsided by when it happened. It was just overall a very pleasant read. Well worth the credit. I intend to check out some of her other titles based on how well this one was written. You won’t be disappointed.

Revisado: 12-09-16
I listen to alot of books. All day, every day, and I'm pretty jaded when it comes to most. This one was great. It kept moving, kept my interest, and even caught me sitting in the car just a little longer to hear more. It takes a pretty wicked twist but it isn't "unbelievable". Or at least it's written in a plausible manner. Overall, one of the better books I've ever downloaded. Well worth the credit. I'll be looking for more from this author.

Pretty much a court precedural with all the research and investigation that goes with them but wrapped around a pretty interesting event of Marine One going down. Overall a pretty good listen. The ending sort of just drops off but other than that not bad. Worth a credit.

Historia
In February 1959, a group of nine experienced hikers in the Russian Ural Mountains died mysteriously on an elevation known as Dead Mountain. Eerie aspects of the incident—unexplained violent injuries, signs that they cut open and fled the tent without proper clothing or shoes, a strange final photograph taken by one of the hikers, and elevated levels of radiation found on some of their clothes—have led to decades of speculation over what really happened.

Good Mystery but I DO NOT agree w/ his conclusion
Revisado: 08-31-15
This is a very strange tale and one that has many different theories, and while the book was interesting and well written, it could have been more indepth (only 6 hours) and the final conclusion the author came up with is just not believeable. It didn't ruin the book, just the ending. Still worth a listen but be prepared to have it fall flat at the end.

Historia
A house demolition provides an unpleasant surprise for Minneapolis - the bodies of two girls, wrapped in plastic. It looks like they've been there a long time. Lucas Davenport knows exactly how long.In 1985, Davenport was a young cop with a reputation for recklessness, and the girls' disappearance was a big deal. His bosses ultimately declared the case closed, but he never agreed with that. Now that he has a chance to investigate it all over again, one thing is becoming increasingly clear: It wasn't just the bodies that were buried. It was the truth.

You just can't go wrong with John Sandford.
Revisado: 08-22-15
I have listened to hundreds of books and althought this was not the best one I ever had, it is closer to the top than the bottom. John Sandford's books are basically the same book each time. Set in a different location or with a different twist. Sort of like James Bond Movies. They are all the same story just set in a different place and with a different bad guy. Sandford books are like that. Some better, some worse, but all good. I have never had one dissapoint.
