I wish I could return this book!!!
Revisado: 06-15-15
What disappointed you about Plain Jane?
The reader literally sounds like the robot apps that perform text to speech. He doesn't even pause at the ends of sentences or change his inflection one iota. I could not listen to more than 10 minutes of it.
What could Carolyn McCray have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?
I should have known when it is described as "Patterson-esque". Patterson writes his books by such strict formulas that I believe the rumors that he has underlings who churn out books based on his formula like sweat shop workers making cheap clothes. This story sounds like it's from one of those formulas...the one where the FBI profiler goes so deep into the killers' minds that he can't always come out...yawn...
How could the performance have been better?
A live person could have been hired.
What character would you cut from Plain Jane?
Protagonists and antagonists.
Any additional comments?
You said I could return the last book I read if I didn't like it. but in practice you meant the last book I bought. Not very helpful.

Peace and order have been restored to the kingdoms of Tsaia and Lyonya, thanks to the crowning of two kings: Mikeli of Tsaia and, in Lyonya, Kieri Phelan, a mercenary captain whose royal blood and half-elven heritage are resented by elves and humans alike. On the surface, all is hope and promise. But underneath, trouble is brewing. Mikeli cannot sit safely on his throne as long as remnants of the evil Verrakaien magelords are at large.

Almost ruined by poor reading
Revisado: 10-11-14
Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?
This being the fifth in the paladin series, I am irretrievably hooked. Susan Ericksen's reading is really decreasing my pleasure, though.
What did you like best about this story?
It's written for adults who like sword and sorcery, not children, and as such does not stint on details of fighting, war, politics and death of good characters. Plenty of detail but unlike Game of Thrones, doesn't spend hundreds of pages of people travelling without incident.
Would you be willing to try another one of Susan Ericksen’s performances?
I HAVE to listen to her read the last two books of the series but I resent it. She reads like she's reading to 6-year-olds. It's strange that she's pretty good on the dialogue but horrible on the narration. I think six-year-olds would be insulted by her condescending tone.
If this book were a movie would you go see it?
Sure. But it would have to be six movies at least.
Any additional comments?
Please share my comments on Susan Ericksen with her because I will really avoid her after I finish this series.

I wish I could give it more stars!
Revisado: 01-05-14
If you could sum up The Colony in three words, what would they be?
Satisfying Ghost Story!!!
What was one of the most memorable moments of The Colony?
Amazing job of presenting the EVIL presence(s). A wonderful modernization of Lovecraftian suspense and satisfaction of morbid curiosity.
Have you listened to any of David Rintoul’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
He's perfect. He does wonderful, subtle accents and his pacing is perfect accompaniment to the tightly crafted story
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
Could hardly put it down.
Any additional comments?
It's so incredibly rare to read a ghost story that both scares and satisfies. I write very few reviews but this book is so good I guarantee that anyone who likes the suspense genre will be glad they found this one!

You get what you pay for
Revisado: 11-26-13
What disappointed you about FREE The Gray Man?
The politics are racist and fascist. The story is obvious and overblown with a lot more tell than show. The testosterone levels may give you acne. The reading is melodramatic.
What could Mark Greaney have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?
More thought less ethnocentrism.
What three words best describe Jay Snyder’s performance?
Mistake-free, smooth, melodramatic.
If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from FREE The Gray Man?
All of the exposition.
Any additional comments?
This story follows the current fashion of making MNCs (author's acronym: multi-national corporations) the ultimate villains stoically committing the most heinous crimes for profit.
