Don't waste your time
Revisado: 08-18-24
This was just too stupid to be funny.
Now don't keep me wrong, I love Dave Barry, and I have enjoyed many of his books and most of his columns but this one was just too stupid.
I remember writing a book about some midget basketball players back when I was 7th grade. I thought it was funny. but, like I said, I was in 7th grade.
The humor in this book was at about the same level. much of it was just painful. no I don't have a problem with things being totally unplausible for the sake of humor, but this stuff was just too far out there to be entertaining.
do yourself a favor and just find something else.

Don't cha know????
Revisado: 08-11-20
I loved most things about this book, the characters are great, the descriptions of places and event suck you you and the story is very good. I thought I had it all figured out at one point but, once again, Deaver got me.
I was a little disappointed that one of the main characters was shot. The lapse of awareness and judgement seemed very out of character for an otherwise very solid character.
But come on Jeff, have you ever BEEN to Minnesota? Minnesotans don't talk like that. One "dont cha know" might have been fine. But you must have had that character say that a dozen times. This surprised me since it's obvious that you do a ton of research when writing your books. But your "Minnesota" character was more like a cheap caricature.

Ya....No. Not his best work
Revisado: 08-04-19
This on had the feel of a ghost writer. So many things that Reacher were out of character. The real Reacher would have done numerous things differently. For that matter, he would have solved the crime much sooner. I kept waiting for a plot twist since I thought there was no way I would have figured it all out before Reacher did. This was simply not Child's best work - far from it.
And what is with the cliffhanger ending? Have you been watching too many soap operas Lee? Pathetic. And then give us a free first chapter of the next book that completely excludes Reacher or any indication of what happened. This is a series - there is no reason to force readers or listeners to buy your next book. It may actually have the opposite effect on me. I would have gladly bought the next installment. If for not other reason than to find a return to form. But this is so pathetic I think I'm done with Reacher. And not just because the movie version had almost ruined the series for me - come on....little Tommy Cruise? No..No...No

Is this an abridged version? Or just a bad ending?
Revisado: 06-01-19
This audiobook was moving along pretty well, I was really enjoying it. And then all of a sudden things just weren’t making sense. I kept going back to the table of contents to see if I was skipping chapters. But apparently I wasn’t, and the ending just sucked. I don’t know if all the prior reviews were from people that read the book and knew what was going on, or if I just didn’t get it. Either way I was confused when this one was over.

Seriously confused until I realized this was an abridgedversion
Revisado: 05-31-19
I love the food first 2/3sOf this audiobook ButThen all of a sudden things just weren’t making sense. It got especially bad towards the end when all of a sudden things wrapped up with very little explanation. I was seriously confused. Then I went back And read the reviews and realized that this was an abridged version. They obviously cut out large sections of the actual book leaving huge holes. I still don’t know what really happened at the end. Whoever put this audiobook together did a huge disservice to readers and to the author.

This practical business book by an internationally acclaimed time management expert helps listeners understand why they're not finishing projects and what to do about it, including using Dr. Yager's unique F-I-N-I-S-H technique. It also goes beyond a "do this, not that" approach to help you develop a deeper insight into what you should be committing to in the first place!

I had trouble finishing it ;-)
Revisado: 01-15-19
I kept hoping that this book would move past the Jan Yager infomercial/basic information stages and finally get to some real solid tips. It never did. So while I'm happy to report that I DID finally finish this audiobook - I can't say that anything I heard here will help me in the real world.
What we did learn a lot about was Ms Yager - the books she's written, her career, her personal struggles, how brilliant she is, etc. We also learned how to tell if we have problems finishing things - she points out our short comings NUMEROUS times. Dear Ms Yager - if we bought the book....we KNOW WE HAVE A PROBLEM. We didn't come to you for a diagnosis.
This whole book feels like it was written for one reason - to write a book. Ms Jager isn't a productivity expert. She's an academic (as we are told often). She was either given this as an assignment by her publishing house or she decided she needed to write a book and drew the topic out of a hat. This is NOT a helpful book.
One of the parts that really stuck with me was when she said that she sat down and listed all her "to-dos" and can up with 17 unfinished items and was shocked that she had that many? 17? Seriously? This is a woman that does not live in the real world. I get 17 new things every day here in the real world.
This book might work ok in the academic world or for some new writers (for whom she commits and entire chapter) but this book will not help you at all if you live and work in the business world.

Not sure what people like about this
Revisado: 11-19-18
I’m a huge fan but of improv but this was painful. I can only guess that the 5 star reviews came from people involved with the production.
I was expecting and old school radio show type improvisational skit. This, however, sounded rehearsed, or at least significantly directed. Sure, the actual dialogue may have been unscripted but this was obviously following a detailed outline.
I can’t say that I found it funny, entertaining or even remotely interesting.
I count stand more than about 30 minutes...despite trying to hold on until it got funny. It didn’t. Time to hit "Return"

First Audiobook I've ever returned
Revisado: 08-05-18
This is easily the least helpful book or audiobook I've every seen or listened to. This is nothing more than a 10th grade cooperative writing assignment. The information included sounds like it came from a few dozen google searches on self discipline. There is nothing new, nothing ground breaking and not even anything remotely helpful in this garbage.
Some of my favorite parts were in the section of "examples" where the "authors" attempt to show us motivating examples of famous people who climbed to the top thanks to their self discipline including:
Arnold Schwarzenegger - "one of the greatest actors of our time"
Justin Beiber - "one of the greatest entertainers of our time"
Jim Carrey - "one of the greatest actor of our time"
While his statements of their greatness are at the least incredibly overreaching, the example they give in every case simple state that these geniuses reached their level of greatness by following daily self discipline. Not once did they actually DESCRIBE, or even mention, what they actually did as far as self discipline. We are simply supposed to assume that these "shining examples" are masters of self discipline. Maybe they are (although I doubt it) but we'll never know, at least not from this book.
I'm assuming that the 5 star ratings came from the mothers of the teens that cut and pasted this crap together because nobody else would give this a positive rating.

A lot of "oh come on now" moments
Revisado: 10-08-16
That's a nice dress but I bet it would look better on the floor. Come on, seriously? You just don't say stuff like that to real women unless you're a complete pig and you don't want to get anywhere with her. Too much of the dialog between Reacher and his new girl (trying to avoid spoilers) is the kind of crap that never really works in the real world. At least not with sober women. I get it, he's macho and in control but give me a break...it was just too much. He can be macho and still act like a gentleman .
Also, why do we need 5 minutes of minutiae on how a one arm man gets undressed? I seriously don't see how that had any bearing on the story.
Finally, for a guy that doesn't want the cops around because he doesn't have any I.D. he was sure able to travel freely around the country. I realize that this was set pre-9/11 but they still required valid photo I.D. To get on a plane.
Other than those points I did enjoy the story and the narration was spot on. Looking forward to the next one, I just hope there are fewer holes.

Most people think success comes from good luck or enormous talent, but many successful people achieve their accomplishments in a simpler way: through self-discipline. Brian Tracy knows this firsthand. He didn’t graduate from high school, and after working for a few years as a laborer, he realized he had limited skills and a limited future. But through the power of self-discipline, he changed his life.

Denial is NOT a river in Eygpt...and other clichés
Revisado: 07-19-15
Would you listen to No Excuses! again? Why?
No - this book just felt like it was written by someone that was being forced to spit out another business advice book. Nothing groundbreaking here. Sure, its good advice but too often I felt myself yelling "Yes, we know that...get to the point".
Would you recommend No Excuses! to your friends? Why or why not?
No, I'd have them read an earlier Brian Tracy book or a Peter Drucker book (since he quotes him often in this book).
Any additional comments?
This book could have been titled "How to Succeed in Business in 50 clichés or less"
