Historia
To survive in a game with no rules at all, John Corey must invent a strategy that includes no luck at all. He and the Anti-Terrorist Task Force must stop "The Lion," an alleged Libyan terrorist with the instincts of a wild animal, the bloodlust of a carnivore, and the boldness and speed of a cat of prey.

No escape
Revisado: 03-09-22
I listen to audible books in order to escape the rampant news cycles of civil unrest, environmental catastrophes, international strife, etc. for short periods in an effort to recharge. I’ve listened and enjoyed all of the Joe Pickett novels to date. This book is the exception. If you enjoyed the BLM, ANTIFA riots you’ll love this installment of Joe Pickett. I did not. Throw in the Nazi angle and you don’t have a mystery, you have a depressing rehash of history past and present. I have no enthusiasm for finishing this book. I’m giving this title 3 stars only because of the nostalgia I hold for the author’s previous Pickett series.

Historia
It begins on the shaded town square in a sleepy Southern town. A spirited seven-year-old has a brisk business at her lemonade stand. But the little girl’s pretty yellow dress can’t quite hide the ugly scar on her chest. Her latest customer, a bearded stranger, drains his cup and heads to his car, his mind on a boat he's restoring at a nearby lake. The stranger understands more about the scar than he wants to admit. And the beat-up bread truck careening around the corner with its radio blaring is about to change the trajectory of both their lives.

Fragility of the Human Experience….in spades
Revisado: 11-17-21
I read/listen to escape for a few hours. If you read/listen because you like terminal illness stories, descriptions of continuous unsuccessful surgeries or reading chapter after chapter about death and the fragility of the human condition this book is for you. If the love of 2 eight year olds is the probable lifetime romance scenario you can really conceive of this book is for you. But most importantly the main character is an “almost” perfect human being and selfless to a fault. Except…as a teenage male he admits to looking at Playboy because he wants to see naked women and then regrets his actions by posing what character flaw or circumstance caused this fair maid to sink so low. At least we know he isn’t gay, God forbid. So, if your life is so good you need a book that brings the tragedy of others into focus, this book is for you. If your life isn’t so good, read this book and you’ll probably think, well it could be so much worse.

Historia
An off-duty Coast Guardsman is fishing with his family when he calls in some suspicious behavior from a nearby boat. It's a snazzy craft, slick and outfitted with extra horsepower, and is zipping along until it slows to pick up a surfaced diver...a diver who was apparently alone, without his own boat, in the middle of the ocean. None of it makes sense unless there's something hinky going on, and his hunch is proved right when all three Guardsmen who come out to investigate are shot and killed.

Virgil
Revisado: 10-02-21
Mr. Ferrone is an excellent reader, but Virgil Flowers is a midwesterner. In this book Virgil (and all of the other characters) sound like they were born and raised in New Jersey. Which isn’t a bad thing unless the main characters are historically from another part of the country that has a noticeably different accent than the one the narrator performs in the audible book.

Historia
In his final hours in the Oval Office, the outgoing President grants a controversial last-minute pardon to Joel Backman, a notorious Washington power broker who has spent the last six years hidden away in a federal prison. What no one knows is that the President issues the pardon only after receiving enormous pressure from the CIA. It seems Backman, in his power broker heyday, may have obtained secrets that compromise the world’s most sophisticated satellite surveillance system.

Rosetta Stone and Tour Map
Revisado: 12-07-20
I have enjoyed many of John Grisham‘s books, but this one is not a favorite. First of all, there are many many chapters on learning how to speak Italian. These chapters contain absolutely no suspense at all. Then there are chapters that describe endless tourist sites and they also have no suspense and little to do with the story. There is just walking and walking and walking and descriptions of cathedrals eateries,, Etc. I ended up fast forwarding through quite a few chapters. I will of course read or listen to other John Grisham books. As always, Michael Beck did a great job with the narration including the chapters that required Italian pronunciation. I did find the reference to “Red China” interesting. It brought back the remembrance that I have of Jesse Helms. It is a memory I do not look back on fondly. What a total jerk! At any rate, I hope Mr. Grisham will refrain from future travel books no matter how much he enjoys the locations he travels to. They make for very boring suspense/thrillers. However, if you are looking for a book that lectures on rudimentary Italian and describes in minute detail Italian cathedrals and Italian cuisine, this is the book for you.

Suddenly he is on the front page of every New York newspaper and his life is hopelessly entwined in the increasingly shocking life (and perhaps death) of Sasha Nijinsky, the country’s hottest and most beautiful television anchorwoman.

Historia
Here I am: tall and broad, shaved head, had my nose broken three times fighting. Black suit, white shirt, the big-city homicide detective. I've led investigations into serial killings, child abductions, organized crime hits and domestic murders. But beneath the suit, I've got an Om symbol in the shape of a Buddha tattooed on my right bicep. It balances the tattoo on my left ribs: Better to die on your feet than live on your knees. That's how I choose to live my life. As a cop, I got paid to catch killers. They tell you not to let a case get personal, but I think it has to.

Nothing to do with True Crime
Revisado: 09-26-20
I couldn’t finish this book. It’s the only audible book I have never finished. It has nothing to do with the crimes he has solved, but everything to do with his ego. It’s a memoir about a guy who praises his wife (whom he eventually feels doesn’t understand his impact on the low life’s he must deal with while she blissfully goes about an air headed existence raising his children) before he meets, and has an affair with Pam whom he is sure shares his super cop ideals. Don’t know if this relationship works out or not because I felt greasy and stopped listening. He throws a few of his colleagues some “bones of acknowledgment” along the way during his career. But as far as I could tell the book highlights his genius as a crime fighter, meditation guru, Kung fu fighter, etc. I have no idea of his guilt or innocence because I couldn’t get that far. But I can tell you he trips all over his ego and self importance through part 2. I love Auzzy accents, people and their independent attitudes. But this was not my cup of tea.

Historia
In the predawn hours of March 4, 2002, just below the 10,000-foot peak of a mountain in eastern Afghanistan, a fierce battle raged. Outnumbered by Al Qaeda fighters, Air Force Combat Controller John Chapman and a handful of SEALs struggled to take the summit in a desperate bid to find a lost teammate. Chapman, leading the charge, was gravely wounded in the initial assault. Believing he was dead, his SEAL leader ordered a retreat. Chapman regained consciousness, alone with the enemy closing in on three sides, beginning the most difficult and exceptional fight of his life.

Proud to be an American
Revisado: 07-22-20
I usually provide ratings, but I don’t usually write reviews. However, John Chapman, his family, the Air Force and his CCT brethren and this book deserve high praise from a grateful nation. I was saddened and surprised that any other branch of service could object to our country’s highest award going to John Chapman in view of the overwhelming evidence that it is well deserved. The drone footage alone (which is hard to watch) indicates his courage under fire. I read several accounts of this battle prior to reading this account, but this book with input from those that found him and the SEAL make it clear he was a warrior of the highest order.
