Historia
A modern masterpiece, The Godfather is a searing portrayal of the 1940s criminal underworld. It is also the intimate story of the Corleone family, at once drawn together and ripped apart by its unique position at the core of the American Mafia. Still shocking 40 years after it was first published, this compelling tale of blackmail, murder, and family values is a true classic.

Historia
The small town of Villejeune, Florida, lies far enough from the inquisitive eyes of strangers and even the reaches of the law that a community with its own customs, rituals, and deadly rites has grown there. In order to start fresh after a failed job prospect and unexpected emotional trauma for their teenage daughter, Ted and Mary Anderson have returned home to Villejeune, unaware of the growing malevolence there. Soon, they are thrust into a nightmare as their sweet but troubled daughter, Kelly, is pulled into the darkness that seems to have consumed the town.

I confess, this was a nostalgic revisit for me. The book transported me into that addictive John Saul 'young adult'-tinged cinematic experience on several occasions.
Kudos to Angela Dawe. Solid performance!

Historia
After firewalking in Polynesia, fundamentalist Minister Alexander Hergensheimer never saw the world the same. Now called Alec Graham, he was in the middle of an affair with his stewardess, Margrethe, and natural disasters kept following them. First, there was an impossible iceberg that wrecked the ship in the tropics; then, after being rescued by a Royal Mexican plane, they were hit by a double earthquake. To Alex, the signs were clear that Armageddon and the Day of Judgment were near.

Revisited 20 years later!
Revisado: 10-01-17
This is the first book of Heinlein I ever read back in 1997! At the time, it ignited a fiery passion and ferocious appetite for Heinlein books.
So what did I think of it in 2017? Being irreverent about religion and in particular Christianity is nothing new for me so I realise that I have changed a lot from the last time hearing it.
Parts of the book is frustrating as hell. The lead character is a dimwitted misogynist and I had trouble dealing with his dialogue at times. Quite a few times!
But in the end I still felt the story was entertaining enough that I haven't sworn off Heinlein and in typical Heinlein fashion, things pick you up towards the end before dumping you on your head again (in a good way).
I will revisit another Heinlein audiobook in the next few months to see how much of what I experienced boils down to his style and how much has go to do with this book being written after a serious brain-related operation or, option 3, with the fact that I'm twenty years older since the last time I read it!

Warning! This book may cause Tourette's!
Revisado: 10-01-17
I wish someone had warned me how bad this would be. From the reviews, thousands of people have found it useful and I think I would have found it useful too if it was summarised into a 'what-you-need-know' one pager instead of dragging it on and on for God knows how many hours.
In my opinion, this book is worthless to people who have:
i. Ever meditated
ii. Understand Buddhism
iii. Have a technical way of thinking and don't like over simplified stupid explanations.
iv. Anyone who has ever had some kind of spiritual insight.
If however you are new to any form of spirituality and have been living under a rock your whole life, then this might be for you.
I'll close my horrid review with two examples. Imagine this: You walk down the street and someone who you know very well walks by and, when you greet them, they never greet you back!
How dare you be upset! All you need to do is observe yourself getting upset and calm yourself with the following: There are billions of people on the planet. Why do you get upset when someone ignores you? This is the short version. The book's version lasts about 5 minutes.
Here's another gem: If you want to stop smoking, all you have to do is decide that you will never ever ever put a cigarette in your mouth again. Easy right!?
These are both examples drawn from the book and if it sounds like sound advice to you, well, you know what to do!
For me? I'm giving up and won't be finishing this load of crappy doodle!
The only good thing about the book is that the narrator is pleasant to listen to. Unfortunately the message did not resonate.

Historia
All too often, this brilliant novel of thwarted love and revenge miscarried has been read for its political implications. Now, a quarter century after The Joke was first published and several years after the collapse of the Soviet-imposed Czechoslovak regime, it becomes easier to put such implications into perspective in favour of valuing the book (and all Kundera's work) as what it truly is: great, stirring literature that sheds new light on the eternal themes of human existence.

The beginning
Revisado: 09-04-17
Like meeting an old friend after a long absence. If you are familiar with his work, then this is a good place to start your audiobook journey of his fantastic novels. The jumping between characters can otherwise be a bit confusing.
The best part of reading Kundera is the phenomenal insight he brings to the human condition

Historia
Imajica is an epic beyond compare: vast in conception, obsessively detailed in execution, and apocalyptic in its resolution. At its heart lies the sensualist and master art forger Gentle, whose life unravels when he encounters Judith Odell, whose power to influence the destinies of men is vaster than she knows, and Pie "oh" pah, an alien assassin who comes from a hidden dimension.

Been on the bucketlist since 1998!
Revisado: 07-27-17
What did you love best about Imajica?
The intricacies of the characters are great.
Who was your favorite character and why?
The bad guy - won't say his name.
Have you listened to any of Simon Vance’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
Simon is a master of voices. His ability to convey both male and female voices are unbelievable.
If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?
Welcome to the real world...
Any additional comments?
I'm a fan of a lot of Clive Barker's work. As I'm getting older I can be more critical and there were some places in the plot that the effort required to suspend my belief was tested. But then again the story would be very compelling and I'd get sucked right in again. I think this is where Barker's true strength as a story teller lie. The plot is thick and complex and if he screws up, you forgive him quickly and get carried off to the next fantastic sight.
Overall its a great book with an ambitious story. The biggest complement I can give it is that I miss it in my life after finishing it yesterday.
