Narration ruined it for me
Revisado: 05-30-16
The new narrator has the perfect youthful voice, that I believe this series needs. The problem was her mispronunciation of character names that fans of the audio series had come to know, it was awful. This is a good audio book made terrible by ill prepared narration!

Historia
There are some odd things about Nate’s new apartment. Of course, he has other things on his mind. He hates his job. He has no money in the bank. No girlfriend. No plans for the future. So while his new home isn’t perfect, it’s livable. The rent is low, the property managers are friendly, and the odd little mysteries don’t nag at him too much. At least, not until he meets Mandy, his neighbor across the hall, and notices something unusual about her apartment. And Xela’s apartment. And Tim’s. And Veek’s.

I wanted to like it but...No
Revisado: 06-25-15
I like Sci-Fi, Fantasy, Paranormal, Detective, Mystery, Romance, Horrors, and ... pretty much everything if it is well written. I cannot recommend this book. I got approx 8 hrs in, and put it away because in all that time, there was nothing happening in my opinion that made the story interesting. I agree with other reviewers that the narrator was good, but the material he had to work with was lacking. There was lots of hype, but no real story.

I had to make myself put it down to go to sleep!
Revisado: 01-10-15
Robert Jordan did an excellent job of keeping my interest in this one. I highly recommend the whole series. As a side note - Kate Reading and Michael Kramer do a "fairly good" job narrating. But, I'd rather hear JOINT NARRATION, rather than DUAL NARRATION. In my opinion Dual Narration is pretty much like "Mommy" and "Daddy" taking turns reading a bedtime story. Besides, Michael Kramer's female voices, sometimes, are positively frightening! I think Joint Narration, (similar to Elliott Mabeuse's Good Student adult series, where the Male Narrator speaks male SPEAKING/THINKING parts, and the Female Narrator speaks female SPEAKING/THINKING parts, and only one of them actually narrates the story parts) is a smoother approach. Other than that, great book, really good series!

OMG! Interestingly boring!
Revisado: 01-02-15
This is actually good background information on a few of the main WOT characters, but I found myself becoming distracted from the story repeatedly. I had to keep restarting chapters, because I would realize I didn't know what was going on in the story, and Kate Reading's voice was just noise in my ear. I literally had to force myself to concentrate on listening! For this reason I recommend this book with reservations.

glad I got it on sale and didn't waste my credit
Revisado: 12-08-14
This book makes my 1,170th audio book purchase with Audible. The many good reviews it has led me to believe it was worth my time, but I cannot add myself to it's high praisers. Raymond Todd's "news commentator-ish" reading, and mispronunciations of simple words distract, and spoil the "magic" clearly intended for this tale. To add insult to injury (author to fans) I was baffled to read that at the 4th book of the series, the author decided to sit down with the (new) narrator and explain the proper pronunciations of character names, and things as she originally intended them pronounced. What?! Seems to me that should have been done at Book 1! Reading the reviews of the next books in this series I found that Book 4 led to some real frustrations for the series fans. That further convinced me not to waste my time to invest in this series. I think Lynn Flewelling should have re-recorded the first 3 mistake books, and sent the corrected versions with proper pronunciations and better narration (she declares she was best pleased with) to every Audible purchaser. I do not recommend the purchase of this audio book unless you are getting it for little or nothing as I did. Some narrators of good series who I feel do bring out the author's intent in their renditions are: Edoardo Ballerini, Davina Porter, and Robert Petkoff to name a few. If you haven't already listened to their authors, do a name search and give them a try.

Took me more than a year to listen - Glad I did!
Revisado: 10-26-14
I did a "blind purchase" of this book during an audible sale back in Jan. 2013 and realized that I couldn't tolerate KH's (IMO) "resoundingly overdone southern accent" past a few minutes! LOL By Oct. 2014, I forced myself to stick with listening to it, and was glad that I did! This book actually became a strong topic of conversation with my friends because we liked it, and hated it at the same time! I do recommend the whole series, because both the writing and the narration are developed into an interesting story. By the time I got to book 6 I was counting the Faith Hunter/Khristine Hvam team amongst my favorite paranormal team ups! If you like Kresley Cole/ Robert Petkoff, Diana Galbadon/Davina Porter, Jeanine Frost/Tavia Gilbert, and Molly Harper/Amanda Ronconi you will like this team too!

Revisado: 10-19-14
I am so very glad that I got this book on sale!
Monica McCarthy is a new author to me, and I am not impressed.
This story lacks "reason-ability" I found it to be both frustrating and predictable.
I do not recommend this book if you like clever stories, with smart reasonable female characters.

Historia
Court Gentry is known as The Gray Man—a legend in the covert realm, moving silently from job to job, accomplishing the impossible, and then fading away. And he always hits his target. But there are forces more lethal than Gentry in the world. And in their eyes, Gentry has just outlived his usefulness. Now, he is going to prove that for him, there's no gray area between killing for a living-and killing to stay alive.

Think - James West, Batman, Michael Weston meld!
Revisado: 07-13-14
Court Gentry is no Mitch Rapp, or Jack Reacher! He is totally different, like a "meld" of James West, Michael Weston, Goku, and The Dark Knight rolled into one! In the Gray Man, Mark Greaney' brings us over the top action, improbable physical endurance, and nonsensical sequenced escapes. His writing, in my opinion, is a bit sophomoric, with screenplay-ish overtones. Certain scenes made me say out loud "Yeah, Right!" But, all in all the book is good fun! Jay Snyder did a superb job narrating. I place him right up there with a few of my favorites like George Guidell, Davina Porter, and Robert Petkoff. The book chapter synchronization of the narrator and the audible app was off, but not so bad that you couldn't find your place. The music was nice, and non-distracting. I do recommend this book, and plan to listen to the next books in the series.
