Historia
A plane crashes on a desert island and the only survivors, a group of schoolboys, assemble on the beach and wait to be rescued. By day they inhabit a land of bright fantastic birds and dark blue seas, but at night their dreams are haunted by the image of a terrifying beast. As the boys’ delicate sense of order fades, so their childish dreams are transformed into something more primitive and their behaviour starts to take on a murderous, savage significance.

What a messed up book
Revisado: 06-29-18
Imagine an island in the sea, where we boys can be, fish together and be happy and free. Until order collapses and we start raping piglets and killing each other. Jesus Christ, what a messed up book. I mean... God, why? It starts so nice and optimistic, and then suddenly the darkness grows, and we become savages. I liked this book very much, although it is a very dark and disturbing story.
The characters are believable, but I don't think I like any of them. Ralph was kind of a dork sometimes, Piggy was partly annoying and Jack was just straight up evil. Except my man Simon, he was very awesome and asked important questions. I think I would've liked it much better if I had read it when I was a little younger and less experienced, because sometimes the boys truly annoy me with their irrationality. Jesus Christ, who gives a shit about a fucking conch? That's some fascist shit right there.
Golding sometimes writes very long descriptions of actions, which makes it kinda slow, and I have to pay attention to everything that is happening. His message is that we all have the Lord of the Flies within us, which I can understand, but don't know if I agree with. Yes, most of the kids turn to shit, but Ralph, Piggy and Samneric still fight against what they are becoming. I think, if we are kind to each other, help each other and don't rape piglets or kill small boys, we all have a Lord of the Butterflies within us.
The audio is very good, but his voice for Piggy are very annoying.

Not that good
Revisado: 05-16-18
Really confusing story at times, I can't really get invested in the things that happen. I liked the third story about the father and the daughter. I liked the other books much more that involved the casino planet, like Legends of Luke Skywalker.

Historia
Labeled variously a realistic story of whaling, a romance of unusual adventure and eccentric characters, a symbolic allegory, and a drama of heroic conflict, Moby Dick is first and foremost a great story. It has both the humor and poignancy of a simple sea ballad, as well as the depth and universality of a grand odyssey.

A vast, have ye read Moby dick?
Revisado: 05-16-18
No? Because I have now, and it was a ride!
This is a marvelous work of a writer and it made me a little sad that we never got an epic like this again from Melville. Some of the characters are based on stereotypes and some are just flat out racist. This makes the book a little outdated for me, but I still appreciate the book for its storytelling and philosophy and the research done for writing this. Ahab is such a tragic characters and I really started to feel for his character in the end. The supporting cast of characters is also very good, but some very underdeveloped. Moby Dick is kind of an interesting plot for the book. Because of the book I thought maybe it would end with Ahab attacking an innocent whale, and that maybe Moby Dick never existed, only in his mind. The revenge was built on nothing but hatred of whales, and Ahab then made up a name for a legendary whale. This did not happen at all, and I really liked it. A very interesting study in the mind of seamen and the hopelessness of life.

Life really did find a way, in a way
Revisado: 05-16-18
So that was it. The last of Crichton's installments to the franchise. This was a very good reading experience. I like that it's very different from the movie, but it still got most of the same characters (except that Dodgson is replaced with inGen) Since the first film is very close to the book, I was kind of expecting something different with this one, because my buddy asked me if "The Lost World: Jurassic Park" really was an adaptation of Crichton's "The Lost World". It still is, but much more loosely based, and I really liked where this book went. This book (as well as the first one) have really made me think and reflect on dinosaurs evolution, the fact that these animals actually existed on this earth millions of years ago! I mean, it's fucking crazy, right? Huge herbivores eating giant plants and great carnivores living for millions of years in a completely natural world. And one day, they were all gone. It's a great story and a very fun and interesting mystery. I know I have seen skeletons of these things, but it's still so fucking weird. Giant birdlike reptiles ruling the world. It's beautiful.
The characters in the book are very good too. Malcolm returns, although I really don't understand how he did it, he came back. Sarah Harding is so much more badass here than she is in the movie. I really like the expedition. A lot of the book is just them observing and talking about the behavior of dinosaurs. It is something I wish they just could do for the movies, but I guess people would get tired after a while and want the dinos to rip the humans apart.
After all, a very entertaining and good book.

Dinosaurs are so awesome
Revisado: 05-16-18
This was a ride of a book. I loved this book so much, just as aI expected. I am a huge fan of the films (except maybe Jurassic Park III?) and this was a great reading experience. I think I love it just as much as the film, but for different reasons. In the book we get to have a much more nuanced view on the creation of the dinosaurs and the book constantly questions the choices made by the characters in the book. John Hammond is a complete asshole in the book, and are made much more unlikeable instead of the version we get in the film. Alan Grant is just as great as he is in the film, but here he is less cynical and are more positive to the kids. The kids are great, but Lex is sometimes truly annoying and you want the tyrannosaur to just eat her and rip her apart. But that doesn't happen, which I can tolerate, because there is a lot of action and brutal killing. The dinosaurs are so frightening! From the T-Rex to the raptor, they are constantly around or near the characters, so they are never really safe.
The book are very similar to the film in the first part of the book, but sometimes it is quite different, especially in the ending. That is not how the movie ends! Which is very interesting, and it really makes me want to watch the movie again. The ending also makes me excited for what happens next.

Historia
In this 1962 classic, a novelistic exploration of modern crime and punishment, Alex is the 15-year-old leader of his gang of "droogs" thriving in the ultraviolent future as prophetically imagined by Burgess. Speaking a bizarre Russian-derived slang, Alex and his friends freely pillage and slash their way across a nightmarish urban landscape until Alex is captured by the judicial arm of the state. He then becomes their prized guinea pig in a scientific program to completely "redeem" him for society.
