Historia
It’s easy to be yourself when who and what you are is in vogue. But growing up Black and gay in America has never been easy. Before Billy Porter was slaying red carpets and giving an iconic performance in the celebrated TV show Pose; before he was the Tony Award-winning star of Broadway’s Kinky Boots; and before he was an acclaimed recording artist, actor, playwright, and all-around diva, Porter was a young boy who didn’t fit in.

Getting to him as a human… I want more and have more questions regarding some of his mentioned people at the very end…
Revisado: 02-18-24
Need more clarification why 2 certain people added at the end … I get why his angels were his angels. But I might wish to ask more info regarding 2 specific people: unless they only mattered because they made it into television …

Historia
Timea Nagy was 20 years old when she answered a newspaper ad in Budapest, Hungary, calling for young women to work as babysitters and housekeepers in Canada. Hired by what seemed like a legitimate recruitment agency, Timea left her home believing she would earn good money to send back to her family. What she didn't know was that she'd been lured by a ring of international human traffickers - and her life would never again be the same.

Historia
Growing up in a house filled with dirty feather boas and fearless mice, Emi Nietfeld dreams of escaping to the Ivy League. Emi’s single mom believes in her, but can’t stop hoarding—catapulting Emi into the underworld of troubled teen treatment, foster care, and homelessness. When her shot arrives to trade sleeping in her car for the hallowed halls of an elite college, Emi must decide: How far will she go to market herself as a perfect “overcomer” when her problems are far from over? And what will it cost to maintain that illusion at Harvard and into adulthood?

Incredibly relatable to what I suspect are many of us
Revisado: 08-17-22
Many themes I found to be woot on with my own, damaged childhood as well as parental figures and episodes. The best part is the epilogue: her final realizations struck a cord with me through my own attempts at healing. Highly recommend to devour this memoir.
