Historia
December 1940. As German bombs fall on Southampton, England, the city's residents flee to the surrounding villages. In Upton village, amid the chaos, newly married Ellen Parr finds a girl asleep, unclaimed at the back of an empty bus. Little Pamela, it seems, is entirely alone. Ellen has always believed she does not want children, but when she takes Pamela into her home, the child cracks open the past Ellen thought she had escaped and the future she and her husband, Selwyn, had dreamed for themselves. As the war rages on, love grows where it was least expected, surprising them all.

Jayne Entwhistle
Revisado: 02-02-24
I found this book by searching for one of my favorite Audible narrators, Jayne Entwhistle. I was not disappointed in the book, and of course loved the performance. Although this is supposed to be a book review, let me just say I recommend this book (I’m in the middle of my 2nd listen), but urge you to search the other books narrated by this amazing performer… especially those by Julie Berry. :) Yes, I’m a 60 year old sales rep with a lot of windshield time. And I still love juvenile books. Try “The Scandalous Sisterhood of Prickwillow Place.” It’s full of hidden humor that will force you to listen multiple times in order to catch it all. And Jayne Entwhistles performances is astounding!! Hurrah Jayne.

PLEASANT SURPRISE
Revisado: 03-17-19
I'm a bit leery of free books, but this one takes the cake for a pleasant surprise. As a person who clocks too much windshield time for work in my car, I need listening that will divert me from the troubles of work and life, and can do so without bad language and shabby morality. This book does it perfectly for me. What a refreshment! Julie Berry is such a witty writer, and Jayne Entwistle performs Ms. Berrys work in a way that I suspect nearly reads her mind. What a delightful plot and narration of the main character! I was so taken in, that I had to listen to it twice before reluctantly moving on to another book. However, I didn't do so until I added another Julie Berry book to my listening library. Bravo!
