so surface level as to be vapid and political
Revisado: 06-27-20
some issues just can't be covered in 2 sentences without taking such massive editorial views as to heavily taint the story.

Historia
The Larkin family isn't just lucky - they persevere. At least that's what Violet and her younger brother, Sam, were always told. When the Lyric sank off the coast of Maine, their great-great-great grandmother didn't drown like the rest of the passengers. No, Fidelia swam to shore, fell in love, and founded Lyric, Maine. One beautiful summer day, brilliant, sensitive Sam attempts to take his own life. Shipped back to Lyric while Sam is in treatment and desperate to make amends, Violet embarks on a wildly ambitious mission: locate the Lyric.

incredible read. rich, real story, beautiful prose
Revisado: 10-06-19
I just can't get over how much I enjoyed this book. hit really close to how Ive felt as I've gotten older, slowly learning that everyone is complicated, love is complicated, life is complicated and nobody has figured it out.

Historia
From leading geopolitical expert and technology futurist Jamie Metzl comes a groundbreaking exploration of the many ways genetic engineering is shaking the core foundations of our lives-sex, war, love, and death. At the dawn of the genetics revolution, our DNA is becoming as readable, writable, and hackable as our information technology. But as humanity starts retooling our own genetic code, the choices we make today will be the difference between realizing breathtaking advances in human well-being and descending into a dangerous and potentially deadly genetic arms race.

Life is getting better at an accelerating rate. Food availability, income, and life span are up; disease, child mortality, and violence are down all across the globe. Though the world is far from perfect, necessities and luxuries alike are getting cheaper; population growth is slowing; Africa is following Asia out of poverty; the Internet, the mobile phone, and container shipping are enriching people's lives as never before.

interesting thoughts but laced with straw men
Revisado: 06-04-18
Really compelling piece with lots of strong, valid, under represented arguments but also at times presents 1-side only, and in numerous cases argues straw men. for example claims past environmental panics were overstated as they didn't come to bear but ignores the fact that those panics generated actions that reduced the likelihood of the events coming to bear
def worth a read. just do so with your critical thinking cap firmly tacked on
