Heartwarming
Revisado: 01-16-24
The Apothecary’s Daughter is a sweet and heartwarming coming of age story that I really enjoyed!
The narrator was very good, but I selected 4 stars because I would like to have heard younger sounding voices for the young characters in this tale. With that said, I still think Davina Porter is an excellent narrator.

Another splendid tale from Eden! I didn’t think I would like this series set in the US as much as the ones that take place in the UK, but this series has touched my heart in a way the other books haven’t. Wonderful!

Historia
Cecily Attwater specializes in hope. As a tutor to the newly blind, she has dedicated her life to helping others overcome the obstacles she herself has conquered. Her new assignment in a remote corner of Wyoming proves trickier than usual: Finbarr refuses to learn. To make matters worse, his family - and the other Irish townspeople - are less than thrilled to discover an Englishwoman in their haven. Cecily's only hope lies in securing the cooperation of her pupil's brother, Tavish, who happens to be her harshest critic.

I didn’t think I could like this book more than I like Eden’s tales that are set in England, but WOW! This is a splendid story! It’s inspiring, endearing, and just plain great! The story and the narrator together make for a wonderful read.

Historia
When Evangeline is sent to live in a small mill town in Northern England as a schoolteacher in 1871, she finds herself struggling to fit in with an unfamiliar culture. Raised with the high-class Victorian values and ideals of a sophisticated upbringing, she is unprepared for the poverty she finds in the gritty factory town of Smeatley, where the locals speak with a hard-to-understand Yorkshire accent and struggle to thrive with few resources or opportunities. Though she has no training as a teacher, she must prove herself successful before her grandfather will release her inheritance.

Historia
Sir John Penlyon is planning to spend Christmas at his estate with his niece and his friend Danby, the closest thing he has to family since disowning his daughter years ago. (She eloped with the parson, who was, of course, penniless.) Danby suggests that at Christmastime the estate needs the presence of small children, and offers to find some - the “hirelings” - despite Sir John’s skepticism. Three children duly arrive, and the youngest, precocious four year-old Moppet, quickly endears herself to Sir John.
