I actually became teary-eyed at times. The book explains so much about the history of Harry’s life left out of the film.

Historia
Although rarely documented as the warmest of monarchs and often criticized for her surly attitude to motherhood, Queen Victoria did successfully heir nine children. By the late 19th century, she had over 30 surviving grandchildren. In this comprehensive delve into Victoria's offspring, Theo Aronson describes the intersection of cultures as princesses with British upbringings experienced the courts of Spain, Romania, Greece, Russia, Sweden, Norway, and Denmark.

Historia
HRH The Duke of Kent has been at the heart of the British Royal Family throughout his life. As a working member of the Royal Family, he has supported his cousin, The Queen, representing her at home and abroad. His royal duties began when, in 1952, at the age of 16, he walked in the procession behind King George VI's coffin, later paying homage to The Queen at her coronation in 1953. Since then, he has witnessed and participated in key royal occasions. A Royal Life is a unique account based on a series of conversations between the duke and acclaimed royal historian Hugo Vickers.

I loved every moment of it!
Revisado: 06-03-23
We sometimes forget about all the duties of the extended family of working royals. What a full, rich and happy life. No pretense, no complaint yet honest and transparent about the challenges and tragedies he’s faced. Since his father died in WWII, he is easily forgotten. This book brings him back by many threads. Thank you for this book!

Historia
Since William the Conqueror, duke of Normandy, crossed the English Channel in 1066 to defeat King Harold II and unite England’s various kingdoms, 41 kings and queens have sat on Britain’s throne. “Shining examples of royal power and majesty alongside a rogue’s gallery of weak, lazy, or evil monarchs,” as Tracy Borman describes them in her sparkling chronicle, Crown & Sceptre.

So thorough. So captivating.
Revisado: 05-30-23
Royal lineage has always fascinated me! This book makes it quite easy to follow most of the time. I did need to consult resources to reacquaint myself with brothers and issue from time to time but in early English royal lines, that is not surprising. Tracy is one of my favorite historical authors. I like this so much, I bought the hard copy of this book!

Historia
When Queen Mary died in 1953, James Pope-Hennessy was commissioned to write an official biography of her - unusual for a queen consort. Queen Mary's life, contrary to popular belief, was essentially dramatic, and she played a far more important and influential role in the affairs of the British monarchy than her public image might have otherwise suggested. Using material from the Royal Archives, private papers, and Queen Mary's personal diaries and letters, Pope-Hennessy's biography was a remarkable portrait of a remarkable woman and received rave reviews across the press.

Candid. Beautifully written
Revisado: 05-30-23
I am a history buff whose eyes were opened about this great lady’s daily life. Although unacquainted with the life of the average British subject, I never realized how unafraid she was to interact and serve their needs. She is often described as cold but I do not hear of that in this account. Beautifully written, beautifully read with clear generational lines. I loved it!

Historia
A Sunday Times number one bestseller in the United Kingdom, this is the intimate and revealing autobiography of Margaret Rhodes, first cousin of Queen Elizabeth II and niece of Queen Elizabeth, the Queen Mother. Margaret was born into the Scottish aristocracy, into a now almost vanished world of privilege. Royalty often came to stay, and her house was run in the style of Downton Abbey. During the Second World War, she "lodged" at Buckingham Palace while she worked for MI5.

Surprise moments of humor
Revisado: 02-27-21
The narration was so entertaining with the variety of accents and pacing. I loved this story. The only predictable (for me ) was the love line. The Adventures” held an unexpected turn. Looks like I will be reading more M C Beaton...
