Historia
Long ago, the wars of the ancient Evil ruined the world. In peaceful Shady Vale, half-elfin Shea Ohmsford knows little of such troubles. But the supposedly dead Warlock Lord is plotting to destroy everything in his wake. The sole weapon against this Power of Darkness is the Sword of Shannara, which can be used only by a true heir of Shannara. On Shea, last of the bloodline, rests the hope of all the races.

What a horrible narrator

I don’t think they could have chosen a worse narrator. His inflection and tone ruin the book.

Basically a pro-abortion tirade
Revisado: 08-23-22
This book is basically a pro abortion tirade. I was overall liking the story lines ok and putting up with the VI liberal bigoted comment.s. I guess the author gets to create the character any way she wants but it feels in this that she is try to preach her views. Hopefully the books dont continue this way. I will listen to another before I give up on the series,

Historia
As the true horrors of the Third Reich began to be exposed immediately after World War II, the Nazi war criminals who committed genocide went on the run. A few were soon caught, including the notorious SS leader Heinrich Himmler. Others, however, evaded capture through a sophisticated Nazi organization designed to hide them. Among them were Josef Mengele, the “Angel of Death” who performed hideous medical experiments at Auschwitz; Martin Bormann, Hitler’s brutal personal secretary; Klaus Barbie, the cruel "Butcher of Lyon"; and perhaps the most awful Nazi of all: Adolf Eichmann.

Historia
Titan is the first full-length biography based on unrestricted access to Rockefeller’s exceptionally rich trove of papers. A landmark publication full of startling revelations, the book indelibly alters our image of this most enigmatic capitalist. Born the son of a flamboyant, bigamous snake-oil salesman and a pious, straitlaced mother, Rockefeller rose from rustic origins to become the world’s richest man by creating America’s most powerful and feared monopoly, Standard Oil. Branded "the Octopus" by legions of muckrakers, the trust refined and marketed nearly 90 percent of the oil produced in America.

Chernow's bias is unacceptable and ruins the book
Revisado: 10-06-18
Up till now Chernow has been one of my favorite authors, but now i have to look at all his books through a different perspective. His historical review of Rockefeller is so tainted by his obvious hatred of religion and particularly fundamental Baptist that he constantly disparages Rockefeller and everything he does. Its laughable that Chernow puts modern morals against antitrust while Rockefeller existed and operated in a different cultural social time. There is nothing inherently evil about monopolies, except that now we believe or enforce (sometimes) anti monopoly practices, i suppose except for apple and google. Chernow is puzzled by Rockefeller attending the same church, not going to lavish social events, not getting drunk and staying with his plain spiritual wife. He doesnt understand why when Rockefeller becomes rich he doesnt join a "social church" like the Presbyterian which would help his career. There was good cultural context in the book and Chernow does do a good job as he normally does on putting the the parallel events into context. Probably the last Chernow book i will buy.

Bayes' rule appears to be a straightforward, one-line theorem: by updating our initial beliefs with objective new information, we get a new and improved belief. To its adherents, it is an elegant statement about learning from experience. To its opponents, it is subjectivity run amok. Sharon Bertsch McGrayne here explores this controversial theorem and the human obsessions surrounding it.

Another really good Brandon Sanderson book
Revisado: 08-16-14
Sanderson keeps coming up with unique worlds and environments and adaption of science and reality. I am continually amazed at how broad of a thinker he is. Once again the reality the book is framed by is the thought or idea of forgery. Sanderson weaves the story in a fantasy setting while at the same time writing about art, motivation for creativity, morality of forgery versus uniqueness, while at the same time discussing how people change over their life, beaten down by choices and failing to achieve dreams. This is an really good book, although with only 3 hours of play time. I am looking forward to a next book in the series if there ever is one, (much the same as all the different series he has started).

Historia
Based on four years of intensive primary document research, Lawrence in Arabiadefinitively overturns received wisdom on how the modern Middle East was formed. Sweeping in its action, keen in its portraiture, acid in its condemnation of the destruction wrought by European colonial plots, this is a book that brilliantly captures the way in which the folly of the past creates the anguish of the present.

Indepth look at World War 1 in the Middle East
Revisado: 05-04-14
This book greatly enhance my learning about the history of the middle east. My knowledge of World War 1 evidently was a lot poorer than I imagined. The author does a great job of setting the stage and following intersecting paths that impact the outcome and future of the Middle East all the way to current times. At the same time he gives a vivid description of the senseless stupidity of all sides of the war and the wasted deaths that entailed. The Arabs, British, Turks, Germans, Jews, Americans and worst of all probably Standard Oil, all vying for their piece of the pie. From our modern vantage point it seems so pathetic. The narrator was superb. The hardest part for me listening to the book as I drove was understanding where the action was taking place. I had to pull up Wikipedia to learn more about the geography.
