Historia
For much of the 20th and 21st centuries, women’s sexuality was an uncharted territory in science, studied far less frequently - and far less seriously - than its male counterpart. That is, until Emily Nagoski’s Come As You Are, which used groundbreaking science and research to prove that the most important factor in creating and sustaining a sex life filled with confidence and joy is not what the parts are or how they’re organized but how you feel about them.

This is a powerful book that I wish I could share with everyone, my friends, my partner, my family, random people on the street, of all genders! I am going to work to make this part of normal conversation in my community because it should be in all of our’s!

Historia
After Tova Sullivan’s husband died, she began working the night shift at the Sowell Bay Aquarium, mopping floors and tidying up. Keeping busy has always helped her cope, which she’s been doing since her eighteen-year-old son, Erik, mysteriously vanished on a boat in Puget Sound over thirty years ago. Tova becomes acquainted with curmudgeonly Marcellus, a giant Pacific octopus living at the aquarium. Marcellus knows more than anyone can imagine but wouldn’t dream of lifting one of his eight arms for his human captors—until he forms a remarkable friendship with Tova.

Historia
Growing up in the tiny village of Smith, Alberta, Darrel J. McLeod was surrounded by his Cree family's history. In shifting and unpredictable stories, his mother, Bertha, shared narratives of their culture, their family, and the cruelty that she and her sisters endured in residential school. Bertha taught him to be fiercely proud of his heritage and to listen to the birds that would return to watch over and guide him at key junctures of his life. However, in a spiral of events, Darrel's mother turned wild and unstable, and their home life became chaotic.

Harsh story that shows reality through beautifully written story
Revisado: 12-05-21
Now more than ever, we need to recognize the different world we all come from. This first person story from the perspective of the boy (and later man) who fought to make reason of all the chaos of his life is a valuable lesson of the subjectiveness of how life should be and the damage of transgenerational trauma that goes ignored. It’s a harsh story that is wonderfully told, even in the ugliest parts. The author is an exemplary human in his own story and that of his family and community.

Great performance but story lacked
Revisado: 11-02-21
While the the performance made this book a great listen, the story itself lacked the magic touch that made the first Dune so enthralling. It just seemed to drudge on through thick political details, which I guess is the point in a way but it just lost it’s appeal after a while. The ending was interesting, although a bit convenient, although that could also be the point. Definitely not on the same level as the first of the series.

Historia
The hardscrabble folks of Troublesome Creek have to scrap for everything - everything except books, that is. Thanks to Roosevelt's Kentucky Pack Horse Library Project, Troublesome's got its very own traveling librarian, Cussy Mary Carter. Cussy's not only a book woman, however, she's also the last of her kind, her skin a shade of blue unlike most anyone else. Not everyone is keen on Cussy's family or the Library Project, and a Blue is often blamed for any whiff of trouble.

Love the speed of the story, the historical references, the determination of Cussy Mary, and how applicable some of the perspectives are even today. The voice acting is wonderful; it sent me right back home to the rural hollers I grew up in. This story has thrill, emotion, and purpose… simply beautiful.

A classic for reflecting on humanity
Revisado: 05-24-21
I listening to Crime and Punishment as a refresher after having read it in High School. I definitely didn’t remember all the details but remember being enthralled by the book. Now as a adult listening to it, I can’t help but ask myself why it stuck with me to such an extent from such a young age. Now I reflect on the existential turmoil, psychological instability, and subliminal political personifications now, all of which I’m not convinced I fully understood back then, but I’m so glad that something in the story kept that book in the back of my mind. It isn’t always an easy book to read (or I guess listen to 😅) and I personally had to take a break for a bit because it made me sad and angry for humanity but I’m so glad it re-entered my life. Also, the performance is INCREDIBLE. I’ve listened to some amazing ebooks and this may be the best!

So many themes wrapped in 1 lovely performance
Revisado: 01-07-21
I thoroughly enjoyed this ebook- the details of the various stories, the serendipity, the reality of the emotions. It was a bit slow at times, but the pace makes sense. Thinking back on it now, I’m surprised by the journey and the way it ended. It certainly doesn’t follow a typical storyline but that’s nice sometimes. Also, Shayna Small does a wonderful job narrating. It’s easy to get lost in her voice!

True journey of literary entertainment
Revisado: 10-17-20
It’s funny how one forgets stories. I’d read The Handmaid’s Tale many years ago in high school but realized I couldn’t recall nearly any details of the story. I’m so glad I decided to refresh my memory with the audible addition. Claire Danes is beyond perfect in bringing Margaret Atwood’s words to life, expressing everything from feelings to rhythm. The story is still very interesting as a new world order fiction and sure to rile up many emotions, especially amongst female listeners. At least, it did for me.
