I read a lot. Mostly autobiographies, biographies, and memoirs. With no exaggeration, this is by far the best account of ones own life that I have read. And Lawrence Fishburne did an amazing job narrating. 10 out of 10.

A Beautiful Tribute to ATCQ

This is by far one of the most beautifully written books I’ve ever read, across all literary genres. The lessons of love, loss, and life that are interwoven into this beautifully told story transcend ATCQ and hip hop. It is a poetic tribute to friendship and and remaining true to one’s self in an ever-changing world.

By Far the Best Biggie Bio I've Read

As a bookworm and music eclectic, this book was incredible. I grew up in Detroit in the 90s, a place that remains a microcosm of hip-hop subculture, so the way this book explores how Biggie’s life took shape in the context of racism, capitalism, the “war on drugs,” and intracommunity violence hit really close to home for me. And as Biggie (and Bad Boy) fan who has continued to intentionally consume the plethora of multi-media sources on the artist and the label over the years, this is by far the most thoughtful and well-researched piece of literature on his life that I’ve read. Whether you are a fan of his music or not (it’s hard not to be though!), this book does a great job humanizing the larger than life figure that was Christopher Wallace and beautifully tells the full story of the short, triumphant, and tragic life of hip-hop’s most talented MC of all-time.

The World As It Should Be

I continue to admire President Obama’s reflections framed through the lens of “the world as it is vs. the world as it should be” — a foundational lesson learned from his days as a young organizer and activist. The fact that he still maintained this tension and paradox even at the highest level of power and decision-making, is front and center in this book.

While Washington remains a controversial figure in the historical context of the black civl rights moment, his story and life’s work are nonetheless remarkable. Regardless of whether you agree with is social and political approaches for black advancement, this book is well-worth the read.
