Thank heavens it was a short story
Revisado: 09-02-23
I could not get into this at all. This was definitely not thrilling nor interesting. The narrator was ok doing female voices but I was so put off by her rendition of Eric that it was difficult to listen to. Sorry, not for me.

In the spring of 2020, Lara’s three daughters return to the family's orchard in Northern Michigan. While picking cherries, they beg their mother to tell them the story of Peter Duke, a famous actor with whom she shared both a stage and a romance years before at a theater company called Tom Lake. Can we all just agree that Meryl Streep should narrate all the books? Wow. Fantastic performance of a novel rich in character. More, please!

Historia
Founded by the mysterious genius known as the Designer, the archipelago of Prospera lies hidden from the horrors of a deteriorating outside world. In this island paradise, Prospera’s lucky citizens enjoy long, fulfilling lives until the monitors embedded in their forearms, meant to measure their physical health and psychological well-being, fall below 10 percent. Then they retire themselves, embarking on a ferry ride to the island known as the Nursery, where their failing bodies are renewed, their memories are wiped clean, and they are readied to restart life afresh.

Seemed a little long
Revisado: 05-21-23
I LOVE some of Cronin’s past work. The Passage is an all-time favorite. I just found this one hard to follow. It seemed to drag on but I didn’t feel like it was making much progress advancing the story for the amount of content that was there. Performance was really good. The guy sounds like Bryan Cranston.

Historia
Chief Inspector Armand Gamache of the Surêté du Québec and his team of investigators are called in to the scene of a suspicious death in a rural village south of Montreal. Jane Neal, a local fixture in the tiny hamlet of Three Pines, just north of the U.S. border, has been found dead in the woods. The locals are certain it’s a tragic hunting accident and nothing more, but Gamache smells something foul in these remote woods, and is soon certain that Jane Neal died at the hands of someone much more sinister than a careless bowhunter.

Historia
Ryland Grace is the sole survivor on a desperate, last-chance mission - and if he fails, humanity and the Earth itself will perish. Except that right now, he doesn't know that. He can't even remember his own name, let alone the nature of his assignment or how to complete it. All he knows is that he's been asleep for a very, very long time. And he's just been awakened to find himself millions of miles from home, with nothing but two corpses for company.

Historia
I’ve been in this life for fifty years, been trying to work out its riddle for forty-two, and been keeping diaries of clues to that riddle for the last thirty-five. Notes about successes and failures, joys and sorrows, things that made me marvel, and things that made me laugh out loud. How to be fair. How to have less stress. How to have fun. How to hurt people less. How to get hurt less. How to be a good man. How to have meaning in life. How to be more me. Recently, I worked up the courage to sit down with those diaries.

Revisado: 11-16-21
Easily my favorite audiobook in a long time. I simply love Matthew McCnaughey's voice, so that was an advantage right out of the gate. But his stories were so entertaining and endearing. He is a smart fella and understands the value of continuously working on yourself and learning from your mistakes. His head and heart seem to be in the right place for a successful career and fulfilling family life. I highly recommend you give this a shot if you want a relaxed, easy listen. I bought a hard copy of the book as well and it is a nice companion to the audiobook.

Having entertained the idea for years, and even offered a few questionable opportunities ("It's a piece of cake! Just do four hours of interviews, find someone else to write it, put your face on the cover, and voila!") I have decided to tell these stories just as I have always done, in my own voice.

There's reason we love Dave
Revisado: 11-16-21
He is just a nice guy. It comes across and he can't even help it. That is a major reason why this book is such a joy to listen to. Of course, he inevitably delves into his relationship with Cobain. That is pretty much mandatory if he is writing a memoir. But this book is so much more than that. Because his life is so much more than that one little piece. His story is interesting and funny and entertaining and definitely worth the time to hear.

Historia
Since his first performance at the legendary New York nightclub “Catch a Rising Star” as a 21-year-old college student in fall of 1975, Jerry Seinfeld has written his own material and saved everything. “Whenever I came up with a funny bit, whether it happened on a stage, in a conversation, or working it out on my preferred canvas, the big yellow legal pad, I kept it in one of those old school accordion folders,” Seinfeld writes. “So I have everything I thought was worth saving from 45 years of hacking away at this for all I was worth.”

Not what I expected
Revisado: 11-14-21
Don’t get me wrong, I LIKE Jerry Seinfeld. I’ve seen all of the episodes of his old show multiple times. Maybe the problem was my own expectations. But this is literally hours of Seinfeld telling mediocre 10-15 second jokes. No set up. No continuity or context. I couldn’t finish it.

Not supposed to be a history lesson
Revisado: 11-14-21
These guys are so entertaining. Their stories are funny and voices so endearing and a joy to listen to. It sounds as though they are really friends but still give each other a hard time. If you are expecting a comprehensive Scottish history, you will find yourself sorely disappointed. That is not what this is at all. But if you like a good travel story with bits of Highland history thrown in, get this audiobook. And I definitely do recommend the audio version. Their voices and they way they play off one another is the best part.

Civilization crumbled as people created isolated safe havens to hide from the infected... and the possibly infected. Now, as society nears a tipping point, lives will intersect and intertwine across two days in a desolate city.

Revisado: 05-08-14
Any additional comments?
I thought these were four solid stories, but it felt like just the beginning to something. An introduction. I did like how the stories all intertwined. The narration was decent. That said, I wouldn't spend a credit on this. It was short and felt incomplete, but I got it for like three bucks so I wasn't disappointed. Overall, I enjoyed the tales but it really did feel like there was more to come. If that was the author's intent, then job well done.
