What is my purpose in life? What is a good life? Why is there so much wrong with our world? What can I do to help make it right? These are some of the big questions that everyone must answer. And any lasting change in our lives will start with a change to one or more of our answers to these questions. Jesus changed the life of every person he met in the Gospels, through powerful experiences and words that led them to unexpected and transforming answers to their big questions. These conversations can still address our questions and doubts today.

Historia
From 1915 to 1970, this exodus of almost six million people changed the face of America. Wilkerson compares this epic migration to the migrations of other peoples in history. She interviewed more than a thousand people, and gained access to new data and official records, to write this definitive and vividly dramatic account of how these American journeys unfolded, altering our cities, our country, and ourselves.

I like the endearing way of presenting history. The story of Great Migration needs to be told as a significant part of US history.

There are tales of Middle-earth from times long before The Lord of the Rings. The story told in this book is set in the great country that lay beyond the Grey Havens in the West: lands where Treebeard once walked, but which were drowned in the great cataclysm that ended the First Age of the World.

Moving Tale, and Great Narration
Revisado: 11-09-23
As always, JRR Tolkien’s epic adventure portrays moving characters and engaging plots. The perfect narration with subtle music in the background draws the listener in. The story is full of tragic endings but overall the tale is redemptive. Highly recommended for everyone, both Tolkien follower and the lay reader.

Great Book
Revisado: 03-09-23
Enjoyed listening to President Barack Obama’s Memoir. Although some chapters were laborious in details, the overall narrative explains a lot of the background to many White House decisions.
I will definitely recommend this to my friends.

Historia
In this brilliant book, Isabel Wilkerson gives us a masterful portrait of an unseen phenomenon in America as she explores, through an immersive, deeply researched narrative and stories about real people, how America today and throughout its history has been shaped by a hidden caste system, a rigid hierarchy of human rankings. Beautifully written, original, and revealing, Caste: The Origins of Our Discontents is an eye-opening story of people and history, and a reexamination of what lies under the surface of ordinary lives and of American life today.

Historia
Carol Berry and her husband met and befriended Henri Nouwen when she sat in his course on compassion at Yale Divinity School in the 1970s. At the request of Henri Nouwen's literary estate, she has written this book, which includes unpublished material recorded from Nouwen's lectures. As an art educator, Berry is uniquely situated to develop Nouwen's work on Vincent van Gogh and to add her own research. She fills in background on the much misunderstood spiritual context of van Gogh's work, and reinterprets van Gogh's art in light of Nouwen's lectures.

Informative and Yet Reflective
Revisado: 02-04-23
Carol Berry’s work represents the lives and passion of both Henri Nouwen and Vincent Van Gogh. There is so much historical material here drawing the readers to the lives of these two men. The author, however, is still able to bring moments of reflection and challenges the readers to a life of consolation and Christ’s work in the cross.

Historia
North America was settled by people with distinct religious, political, and ethnographic characteristics, creating regional cultures that have been at odds with one another ever since. Subsequent immigrants didn't confront or assimilate into an "American" or "Canadian" culture, but rather into one of the 11 distinct regional ones that spread over the continent each staking out mutually exclusive territory. In American Nations, Colin Woodard leads us on a journey through the history of our fractured continent....

The author’s introduction of regional nations gives light to the many confusing turns in US political history. I value his analysis and the suggestion of cultural lenses in understanding American life and the people of North America.
