In the summer of 1961, a wall of barbed wire goes up quickly in the dead of night, officially dividing Berlin. Luisa Voigt lives in West Berlin, but her grandmother lives across the border and is now trapped inside the newly isolated communist country of East Germany. Desperate to rescue her grandmother and aware of the many others whose families have been divided, Luisa joins a secret spy network, risking her life to help bring others through a makeshift underground tunnel to West Germany. Their work is dangerous, and not everyone will successfully escape or live to see freedom.

Historia
Vinh Chung was born in South Vietnam, just eight months after it fell to the communists in 1975. His family was wealthy, controlling a rice-milling empire worth millions; but within months of the communist takeover, the Chungs lost everything and were reduced to abject poverty. Knowing that their children would have no future under the new government, the Chungs decided to flee the country. In 1979, they joined the legendary “boat people” and sailed into the South China Sea, despite knowing that an estimated two hundred thousand of their countrymen had already perished at the hands of brutal pirates and violent seas.

Certainly the beat of my 2 thousand plus audio books. Such honesty, such fortitude in adversity. How great is our God. He knew his sheep and led them to greener pasture. I love the culture of the East and the strong work ethic most of all. And I shall always remember the despicable actions of the Malay soldiers in their dealings with the boat people. May God bless World Vision in their magnanimous work and may the Malay people who were so cruel to the helpless be cursed. What a story. I wish the whole world could hear it! God be praised for saving the Chong/Chang family. I admire their fortitude. What strength of character and respect for their family! I wish I could meet the wonderful Vic Chong in person! Best credit spent ever!

In the beginning.... Three brothers - Gabriel, Michael, and Lucifer. Royalty. Archangels. United in devotion to their father and all his works. But when Lucifer learns of their father’s latest creation - a new race, fashioned from crude matter and yet made in his image - he is consumed with resentment. Why have he and his angelic kind been overlooked? After a bitter confrontation, Lucifer is cast out, doomed to an eternity of exile and punishment. Unrepentant, he vows he won’t suffer alone. Mankind has made a powerful enemy - one determined to lure it into darkness and torment....

Great story, conflict galore.
Revisado: 12-01-22
Although this is fiction based on the Bible I find it mesmerising. I have just listened to this book for the second time. It is basically the power of good against the evil of Lucifer and his diabolical hordes. Who knows, perhaps some of it could have happened like this. I realise it is artistic licence by Wendy Alec, but I loved the book. I have read all the books in this series.

Yeonmi Park was not dreaming of freedom when she escaped from North Korea. She didn't even know what it meant to be free. All she knew was that she was running for her life, that if she and her family stayed behind they would die - from starvation, or disease, or even execution.

Historia
Every day, three times a day, the students march in two straight lines, singing praises to Kim Jong-il and North Korea: Without you, there is no motherland. Without you, there is no us. It is a chilling scene, but gradually Suki Kim, too, learns the tune and, without noticing, begins to hum it. It is 2011, and all universities in North Korea have been shut down for an entire year, the students sent to construction fields - except for the 270 students at the all-male Pyongyang University of Science and Technology (PUST).

Loved the compassion and honesty
Revisado: 11-21-22
I have readi autobiographies of escaped North Koreans and these touched me deeply. What a world within a world North Korea is, and how patriotic the citizens. The generations of powerful brainwashing of Nort Koreans is tough to come to grips with. The very worst of North Korea is the hunger and the cold. Thereafter the police state. It is truly a story of desperation, and those who manage to escape find our everyday world bewildering in all its choices. North Korea is dystopia in its essence. It seems to be the devil's playground where lies abound and truth leads to torture. May prayer and love eventually break the hold of the dark forces in this dark country. This book has touched me deeply, and I shall read it again. Little humorous portions made me smile, but overall I weep for the North Koreans.

Historia
In The Return of the Gods, Cahn takes the listener on a journey from an ancient parable, the ancient inscriptions in Sumer, Assyria, and Babylonia that become the puzzle pieces behind what is taking place in our world to this day, specifically in America. The mystery involves the gods. Who are they? What are they? And is it possible that these beings, whose origins are from ancient times, are the unseen catalysts of modern culture?

So true.
Revisado: 10-07-22
The narrator was really good. Cahn is repetitive in the extreme . I think he does this to make sure we get the message. Unfortunately too much repetition can detract from the message, which is well worth hearing. Perhaps a shortened less dramatic version is called for. I say this most respectfully. I have read and listened to all his books. He loves to dramatise. A little is good, too much spoils it. Fabulous info in this book. Well worth a credit. Ruth Malan

Historia
As tribulation engulfs the world, Grace Winslow does her best to prepare for the inevitable persecution. When she gets word that government agents are coming for the remaining Christians, she’s ready to run. Or so she thought. Grace flees to the mountains with her aunt, intending to join a small group of Christians who would face imprisonment or death at home. But as troubles grow into conflicts, living with strangers in a survival crisis proves far more difficult than she’d imagined.

Wonderful narration
Revisado: 03-14-22
Story is a bit predictable and the characters could be better developed. A bit of dry humour might spice things up.
I like the idea that Max hates killing for food. Of course dire necessity requires the slaughter of creatures. It helps that they are predators killed in self defence! As you can gather I love animals.
I also like the gentle Grace, so unlike the horrible feminist freedom fighting tough girls, damaged beyond belief, not at all likeable. Grace is lovely and honest, as well as non contentious. This is so refreshing. I work with teens. Girls nowadays are so self-centred and downright nasty. Girls and women fighting with men and boys, and just being generally dismissive of masculine strengths and charms, really wears me down. I think a quiet reflective soul that avoids all contention is beautiful. Of course when necessary even heroes need to fight for truth and morality. I am looking forward to hearing the next book in the series.

This book is a clarion call to all believers. We need to see the bigger picture: It is not about us but about God’s heart and God’s kingdom. God is looking for warriors who are about advancing his kingdom by storming the gates of hell and setting his sons and daughters free from the clutches of the greatest narcissist of all time.

Really atmospheric - what a ride!
Revisado: 11-09-21
This is scary, yet mezmerizing. The depravity of Satan and his demons are well represented in this " hero's journey ' Wow, what forceful fiction. What exceptional gifted characterisation for a young author. I would love to read more of this kind of writing. Ray Porter as always is soooo good. Who could ever do the voices this well? Thanks Audible! What great production, but not for those who are too genteel regarding language. Baals foul utterences stripped the paint off my walls!
What ferocity.
A bit of a cliffhanger. Is there a sequel?
