I’m sure it’s a good book just not for me
Revisado: 10-23-24
When the authors reading this book it comes across is reading like stereo instructions and one part he’s talking about cats and how long it took him to press the button and it felt like forever as he’s listening every individual time. Some of his techniques are OK but they’ve been presented 100 different ways and a lot better books, I’m not really sure why this book has such a high following

nice book but gets a little long in the tooth
Revisado: 02-22-22
liked it mostly, I appreciate her opening up. but I did feel the end got a little sales oriented. now I question if the entire book was part of a marketing pitch.
I'm not really sure how I feel now about the book and story.

Historia
When Conor Knighton set off to explore America's "best idea", he worried the whole thing could end up being his worst idea. A broken engagement and a broken heart had left him longing for a change of scenery, but the plan he'd cooked up in response had gone a bit overboard in that department: Over the course of a single year, Knighton would visit every national park in the country, from Acadia to Zion.

Struggled to finish
Revisado: 08-31-21
This book for me was a chore to get through [I made it to chapter 6]. I felt like the only thread was Conor telling us where he went. at times I felt like it was a chore he had to do instead of getting to do.
Also the narration, felt so tv like, not really honest. I think by that I mean the tempo and cadences felt off and too rehersed.

Historia
At 23, Andrew Forsthoefel headed out the back door of his home in Chadds Ford, Pennsylvania, with a backpack, an audio recorder, his copies of Whitman and Rilke, and a sign that read "Walking to Listen". He had just graduated from Middlebury College and was ready to begin his adult life, but he didn't know how. So he decided to take a cross-country quest for guidance, one where everyone he met would be his guide. In the year that followed, he faced an Appalachian winter and a Mojave summer. He met beasts inside: fear, loneliness, doubt.

The walking snowflake
Revisado: 09-19-19
Listening to this book was painful. The person reading this is so monotone I can use it as a sleep aid. His existential ramblings drone on and on and on.....and on. Ths book should of been titled the walking snowflake. Poor meee.... daddy left..... who will show me how to be a man....I so wanted to yell Suck it up buttercup! becoming a man isn't an option, only you get to decide what kind of man you are.

What an amazing story of multidimensional fun!
Revisado: 08-14-19
I couldn't put my headphones down! I loved the characters story and narration. It made me think of what it must of been like to sit next to the radio and hear epic adventure stories on the radio. The narrator kept the story's fast paced dialogue moving with amazing zeal.
My only negative comment is this is the only book that I can find. Earth 6739j needs to know about the other adventures of Tom Stranger.

What is the best way for the average person to authentically experience the world's greatest mountain range - the Himalayas? Fortunately, there is now a good answer. The Annapurna Circuit in Nepal is the most popular footpath in Asia. Its genius lies in its design. Trekkers wind their way around and along some of the world's greatest peaks, ultimately getting near 18,000 feet, without ever having to do any 'technical climbing'.

The real stories behind the scenery of America’s national parks. For 12 years, Andrea Lankford lived in the biggest, most impressive national parks in the world, working a job she loved. She chaperoned baby sea turtles on their journey to sea. She pursued bad guys on her galloping patrol horse. She jumped into rescue helicopters bound for the heart of the Grand Canyon. She won arguments with bears. She slept with a few too many rattlesnakes. Hell yeah, it was the best job in the world! Fortunately, Andrea survived it.

death, suicide and whining from a writer.
Revisado: 06-02-19
Want to be depressed by the stories of rape, death, suicide and the fact that women are called split tails? No, me either. this is a horrible book. The person reading this book is about as exciting as the story. There was no fun, humor or positivity in this book. I made it through 2 hours of listening, hoping it would get better. I can't wait to get rid of this pos book. I think the writer should get a job writing the side effects brochures for prescription medications.

Historia
Have you ever wanted to visit Machu Picchu, or witness the Northern Lights? To explore remote landscapes where no boot has tread, no shutter ever snapped? You can.... Before he became Green Giant on the Appalachian Trail, Gary Sizer was a Marine, a computer nerd, and a guy with a problem. No matter how much time he spends outside, it's never enough. Whether being thrashed by drill instructors at Parris Island or drenched by a squall in a high tundra, the same calming thought always prevailed: It's good to be outside.

Historia
Just before her 40th birthday, Gail Francis quit her perfectly good job and set out to hike one of the great trails of the world. Carrying everything she needed on her back, Francis spent five months walking from Mexico to Canada along the Pacific Crest Trail. Along the way, she lost her pack scrambling over scree in the desert, struggled to navigate high mountain passes, and wore the soles off her boots trekking across lava fields - all within some of the most pristine wilderness in the nation. Though she set out alone, her story includes an eclectic cast of characters.

such a great story about a female's perspective
Revisado: 04-25-19
I thought the voice actor did an awesome job telling the story of a long distance hiker. I felt if the reader was the one who hiked. I felt like I was actually along on the trip.
The stories had just enough details that allowed the listner to visualize the trip without drowning in the details. I really appreciate the writer's perspective and her open mindedness to live. she is definitely someone I would love to hike with.
Congrats on your book and successful PCT hike.
