Historia
Two astronomers have detected a strange, pulsing signal from deep space. Within hours, the US government goes into lockdown, restricting airspace and scrubbing scientific data. Was the signal an intercepted communication revealing alarming plans for an enemy’s military strike? Or has humanity at long last found proof of extraterrestrial life?

Solid story until the end
Revisado: 12-10-24
I think there was a way of the story could’ve ended and the main character had maintained her professional integrity. I don’t buy the fact that she wouldn’t put the greater good of mankind above the supposed ego of one man.

Help that every nice guy needs
Revisado: 08-25-24
If you’ve ever been called a nice guy and cringe at the backhanded compliment, you need to read this book. Even guys who don’t consider themselves nice but aren’t getting what they want out of life could benefit from these insights. Concrete strategies to help you get what you need (and deserve), as well as insights as to why you act the way you do. And you, I mean me, because I’ve been considered a nice guy my whole life and every page in this book was eye-opening.

Historia
How did Fidel Castro fool the CIA for a generation? Why did Neville Chamberlain think he could trust Adolf Hitler? Why are campus sexual assaults on the rise? Do television sitcoms teach us something about the way we relate to each other that isn't true? While tackling these questions, Malcolm Gladwell was not solely writing a book for the page. He was also producing for the ear. In the audiobook version of Talking to Strangers, you’ll hear the voices of people he interviewed - scientists, criminologists, military psychologists.

Wish I’d read the reviews before buying
Revisado: 03-26-23
The context of the book is certainly interesting, and gets the standard Gladwell treatment of in-depth insights into the pitfalls of making assumptions of strangers. What it lacks in spades is any prescriptive advice on how to overcome those pitfalls. It constantly reiterates the risks we take in finding relatability quickly with those we don’t know, or thinking we can figure them out based on our own interpretations of their expressions or actions. But there’s nothing to strive for, no expert-based techniques on how we can all do better. Don’t waste your time.
