Historia
Keith Stewart, a retiring and ingenious engineer, could not have been happier in his little house in the shabby London suburb of Ealing. There he invented the mini-motor, the six-volt generator, and the tiny Congreve clock. Then a chain of events sweeps him into deep waters and leads him to his happiest discovery yet.

I love everything about this book: the writing, the narrator, the story. Howard’s care of the children reflects the essence of warmth and generosity.

Historia
This is a collection of Elizabeth Berg's most-loved Facebook posts. She was asked by many to put these short essays into book form, to create something to "take to the beach, or bed, or on an airplane". Elizabeth and her friend, Phyllis Florin, happily complied, and they hope that their offering will be as welcome as flowers in a mailbox.

Should have checked out her Facebook page before buying this book
Revisado: 10-20-21
Insipid and poorly narrated. The conversations between the author and her pets were the last straw. I stopped listening one hour in.

Historia
Since his first performance at the legendary New York nightclub “Catch a Rising Star” as a 21-year-old college student in fall of 1975, Jerry Seinfeld has written his own material and saved everything. “Whenever I came up with a funny bit, whether it happened on a stage, in a conversation, or working it out on my preferred canvas, the big yellow legal pad, I kept it in one of those old school accordion folders,” Seinfeld writes. “So I have everything I thought was worth saving from 45 years of hacking away at this for all I was worth.”

Oh not what I expected
Revisado: 10-19-21
Following a short autobiographical introduction, Seinfeld tells one joke after another. This format does not work, particularly in this audible version where each joke is titled and announced before it is told.

Historia
Lucy Barton is recovering slowly from what should have been a simple operation. Her mother, to whom she hasn’t spoken for many years, comes to see her. Gentle gossip about people from Lucy’s childhood in Amgash, Illinois, seems to reconnect them, but just below the surface lie the tension and longing that have informed every aspect of Lucy’s life: her escape from her troubled family, her desire to become a writer, her marriage, her love for her two daughters. Knitting this powerful narrative together is the brilliant storytelling voice of Lucy herself.

Resonates with me like no other writer
Revisado: 04-02-20
I love Elizabeth Strout’s writing. I think it’s the bare-bones precision of her words combined with what strikes me as a total lack of pretense that hits me in my gut. Strout is clear about the part of herself she can share—needs to share—but she is equally clear amd unapologetic about what is not shared.

Hilarious plus mediocre

This collection includes a bunch of hilarious, off -the-charts creative stories. Others were mediocre. I wonder why Novak included the marginal ones. Normally I avoid books with multiple narrators; i’m glad I tried this one.
